Miriam Carey, 34, has been named as the deceased woman who attempted to ram a barricade at the White House before leading a high speed chase through the streets of the nation's capital on Thursday. She was run off the street close to the US Capitol building, where she abandoned her vehicle and Capitol police opened fire, shooting Carey who was unarmed dead. The motivation for why this college-educated healthcare worker drove to the nation's capital in the midst of a government shutdown and caused such havoc is still a mystery. Carey lived in Stamford, Connecticut. The black Infinity in the above video that she was driving during the incident had Connecticut plates. According to her Facebook page she's from Brooklyn, New York. Carey was born there in August 1979, reports The Hartford Courant. Her family still live in the borough, she also has family in Staten Island. The Washington Post reports that she has four sisters, one of whom is an is a retired NYPD sergeant. They further report that she relocated to Stamford, Connecticut, as she had problems

with her landlord and was no longer able to afford Brooklyn rents in 2009. Public records show that she lived in Brooklyn since 1997. The Stamford Advocate reports that she was engaged in some sort of legal dispute with her neighbors in Stamford in 2012.

A law-enforcement source in Connecticut told The Stamford Advocate that Carey has a history of mental illness but did not have a criminal record. It's been revealed that Carey may have thought that President Barack Obama had been communicating with her through some sort of radio wave. ABC reports she was suffering from post-partum depression.

Police said that they do not believe Carey was armed when she was shot. A friend, Angela Windley, told The Washington Post that she never knew Carey to be political, nor did she know of any ties Carey had in D.C. Windley went on to say that Carey could be "arrogant. If there was a negative, people said that was it. She could be sort of conceited, like she knew everything." NBC Connecticut reports that Carey suffered from a "fall" at some point in early 2012 and that her mental issues began around this time. Her former employer said that she was off work for two weeks in January 2012.

Her sister, Amy Carey, who is Brooklyn-based nurse, told The Washington Post: Thats impossible. She works, she holds a job. She wouldnt be in D.C. She is reported to have attended Hostos Community College in The Bronx, where she studied dental hygiene, and Brooklyn College. She graduated from Brooklyn College with a degree in health and nutrition science. The Stamford Advocate reports that she received her license to practice dental hygiene in New York City in 2002, and it expired in 2008. In 2009, she qualified for a similar license in Connecticut. A company called Experienced Dental Placements based out of Stamford, Connecticut lists "Carey_Miriam29@Yahoo.com" as the contact email address. One former employer, Barry Weiss DDS, told NBC Connecticut: There were a few instances of her being headstrong, but generally she was an average employee. She did her job and left at the end of the day. Nothing would have led us to think she would have done this.

Weiss added that he fired her in August 2012 after patients complained she was "too rough."

As the first reports emerged of a shooting near the Capitol, and then a female driver shot dead, the most disturbing detail was that a "baby" was inside the car with her. The reported age of the child, who turned out to be Carey's daughter, varied. But ABC is now reporting: Carey had a 1-year-old daughter named Erica, her mother said. Police confirmed that a 1-year-old girl was taken from the car and put in "protective custody."

The infant daughter was taken to a hospital and was reported to be in good condition. NBC Connecticut reports that Carey was not married to the baby's father. One family neighbor in Brooklyn described her boyfriend as a "heavy-set guy in his 40s."

A massive multi-agency operation is under way in Stamford, Connecticut. Speaking to The Stamford Advocate, an agent said the investigation was "methodical" and not unlike "Newtown." Stamford Mayor Michael Pavia told reporters: A full investigation is under way by federal authorities who are in Stamford currently. Stamford police are assisting federal authorities as needed.
