My Hope America with Billy Graham is a grassroots effort to reach people across the United States with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Following a simple biblical model, My Hope America combines the reach and excitement of a nationwide media event with the power of personal relationships. Under the guidance of their local pastors, Christians across the country will open their homes to share the Gospel with friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors through programs featuring a new and powerful message from Billy Graham, dynamic music, and testimonies. Like the Apostle Matthew, some will invite their guests into their homes or churches to learn about Jesus using television or video, while others will gather at a coffee shop or the park to watch the program on a tablet or smartphone. Strategy: Matthew and Friends is the heart of this national evangelistic outreach. After accepting Jesus call to follow Him (Matthew 9:913 and Luke 5:2731), Matthew invited friends into his house to meet the Person who changed his life. Through this strategy, Christians from thousands of churches will follow these simple steps:

LOOK AROUND and identify friends, neighbors, coworkers, fellow students, and family who do not know Jesus Christ as their Savior. Then write their names on a prayer list. LOOK UP and pray every day for each person they listed. LOOK OUT for opportunities to build deeper relationships with these people. LOOK FORWARD to the event: Invite every person on their list, prepare their three-minute story, and pray for Gods help as they invite guests to receive Jesus Christ. LOOK AFTER those who give their lives to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith. My Hope America will center around one week in November 2013, when Christians will invite these friends to their homes, or another familiar location, to watch the television or video programs. They will then share their own story of how they met Jesus and invite their friends to pray to receive the Lord Jesus Christ. Each host will follow up with new believers and encourage them to become part of a local. Where Do We at Bethesda Fit into the Picture?
You and I fit right where we choose to fit. Are you willing to open your home and invite a few folks over to view a Billy Graham video message to our nation? After the 30 minute video, simply share a brief (35 minute) summary of your salvation storyyour testimonyand invite any who desire to trust Christ as their Savior. Suggested week in which to have a group in your home: November 3-9. (Week of Billy Grahams 95th birthday.) Two training options available: Choose either , Tuesday, October 8, or Thursday, October 10, from 78:30 PM to preview the video and to receive training. (Sign up in church foyer.) America needs Christ! Will you take advantage of this unprecedented opportunity to do your part? Pray now!
After reading several articles this month about youth ministry and the role of the youth pastor in the church, I am inspired to give my twocents, which may only be worth a penny, but will be offered nonetheless. Let's call this my philosophy of youth ministry, in brief. I am what could be considered an atypical youth pastor. Chances are I have different approaches to youth ministry than what people perceive a youth minister should do. If I could sum up my approach in a sentence it would be this: my role as youth minister is to primarily equip parents to disciple their children and equip the church to incorporate the youth into the local body of Christ. I would have to write a book to really flesh that out (which has probably already been done), but I thought I could briefly describe the two main parts of that statement. This month, I will take on the first part of that statement: equipping parents to disciple their children. As youth pastor I would be neglecting the students if I was not concerned with their parents spiritual growth. The reality is that I am a temporary figure in the life of our students. Twenty years from now, I can almost guarantee that those kids might look back and remember me and some activities that we did, but will remember very little of what I taught them in weekly Bible studies. I can teach spiritual formation, but they will inevitably be formed by the molds of their parents. Parents are the primary models of Christian living for their children. I believe that, in most cases, in a Christian home the spiritual maturity of a teen is limited by the spiritual maturity of the parent. Certainly there are great exceptions, and sometimes the kids who hunger for Christianity the most dont have Christian examples in the home, but, as I look at those I grew up with in a Christian setting, those with parents of nominal faith are part of that scary percentage that leaves the church. So, if I want to have a lasting impact on the youth, parents must be pushed to develop spiritually. After this, the church then can focus on the youth themselves, and find ways to incorporate them into the body of Christ. Landon Orr

Awana is off to a great start this year! I could never say enough about the enthusiasm and dedication of each of the volunteers, and the amount of support from the entire church this year has been such an encouragement to all of us. Watching these children get excited to learn scripture, and seeing their families growing closer to the Lord together has been amazing! Please continue to reach out to families you know. Our registration does not close, and if we all invite just ONE MORE family imagine the impact we can have in our community this year. God's Word does not return void, and it is being taught, studied, and recited every week during Awana. You might also keep an eye out in the children's wing. They are hoping to complete 200 hours of community service this year, to make three years in a row, and we'll be tracking it as they go.
