Guest Sarita Waite insists we need hard security officers in cars, who patrol the entire district and all of the adjacent areas to protect customers, bicyclists, residents. Other guests want increased security but dont want to see guards that create a militarized presence, because some people will think the area isnt

safe. The BID clarified that it is only allowed to provide services in between the area defined by those who pay into the district. Concern was voiced about how the BID is spending its assessment fees and how funds might be redirected to additional security ambassadors and/or cameras. A security committee was suggested to form, in order to make recommendations to the Board. Board members Rick and Randy, and attendees Samar, Nicholas, and Michelle expressed interest in being part of this committee.

Attendees were encouraged to attend the districts monthly Neighborhood Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) meetings. Cameras were strongly encouraged by guest Vas Kinniris. The Board explained thats an option that will be considered. It is exploring this option specifically, in particular, since Temescal Plaza is installing two pilot cameras on its premises.

SECURITY & CLEANLINESS

Held meeting with Captn Toribio to meet with Safety First to establish optimal collaboration procedures. Received inquiries regarding interest for collaboration on private patrols from both Dona Tomas and a resident, due to a recent spate of robberies, including in Temescal Alley. Work to consolidate requests and channel accordingly Next Merchant Meeting will host Cptn Toribio at Marc 49 at 8:30am, on Wed. 9/11 to address crime and stay away orders. Attended OMLF meeting discussion on illegal dumping and graffiti abatement. Illegal dumping is easier to control because its easier to track offenders through license plates. Graffiti offenders are more challenging. Prosecution of either remains elusive. Councilmember Kernighan attended meeting and understands the need to provide teeth to the ordinance which requires higher prioritizing from the City Attorney and OPD.

b. BevMo proposal: do we want to endorse? (all) Because the entire Board had not heard all of the points from BevMos proposal, it was not prepared to take a position regarding endorsement. It is also important to find out whether BevMo remains interested in the building or whether it has moved on to another location. If this item is to come back to the Board for consideration, we need to bring a concise proposal with discussion points. 3. New Business a. Security Survey results (Darlene) Darlene shared the results of the merchant survey. 19% response rate with 29 responses received out of 150 businesses 59% of the respondents were aware of the ambassadors while 41% were not 38% knew how to contact the ambassadors while 59% did not Comments consensus o indicated a need for later hours versus 2 to 8 pm, such as 4 to 10 o Effectiveness of one ambassador questioned Board members interpreted the results differently. Some felt the survey results indicate satisfaction with the ambassadors while others believe more information is still needed. Roy indicated the need for a follow up question to find out if merchants are willing to contribute to security program.

Submitted respectfully,
