Matthew Shepard, a Gay University of Wyoming student, was abducted by two men shortly after midnight on October 7, 1998. The men, Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson, drove Shepard east of town, where they tied him to a split-rail fence and repeatedly beat him with the butt end of a pistol. He died several days later of his wounds. The murder made headlines around the world and transformed Shepard into a symbol. Much as the fatal beating of Emmett Till came to symbolize the discrimination suffered by African Americans in the Jim Crow South almost a half century before, Shepard became the face of violence against Gay, Lesbian and Transgender people. Wyoming was never quite the same. The Star-Tribune has taken stock of where the Cowboy State stands 15-years after Shepards death. What has changed? What hasn't? Most Gays and Lesbians say life has improved. People are more accepting and less prone to stereotypes. But only a few agreed to speak publicly. Some cited family concerns. Janet Youngholm met her partner after a softball game in rural Wyoming. She was a softball player, I was a groupie, Youngholm said. They chatted and stayed in touch. They slowly fell in love. In 1980, they informally married in New Hampshire. Their formal marriage wouldnt be until 2010, when the Granite State allowed Gays and Lesbians to legally exchange vows. It is our goal to record the positive contributions GLBT people make to their community and the local community at large. While AIDS and Hate CRIMES are certainly not positive things, we seek to draw the positive from the negative. We hold up Paul Delph and Matthew Shepard and their families as models of how human beings should or could react to each other and how families should support loved ones whose lives are not in the box right wing religious zealots want them in. Delph, a multi-talented Cincinnatian, died of AIDS in 1996. His mother shut down her business to care for him. Shepard died in 1998, victim of a hate Crime and his mother worked for years to get passed a national Hate Crimes Bill, which is now law.

back in the back! Should the teeth go bad, there are a large variety of services available at your happy local veterinarian. Surgical cleaning, root planing and flouride treatments are by far and away the most common. Why are these things important? Because liver, kidney and heart disease can develop from such a situation. So, toothless pets look like homeless pets; and no one wants that. So how do we avoid this? Tip 1.) Were now off to the pet store to get a toothbrush and tuna or liver flavored toothpaste. Yes Virginia. this is America. Rather than a toothbrush, however, one can purchase a finger cot with bristles. This may work better that a brush. Rubberized toys are out there that you can load with toothpaste, and these work pretty well too. Tip 2.) Simply wipe off the teeth with a plain dry cotton ball. This is simplicity at its finest. It wipes off the slimy plaque before it consolidates into hard tarter. Do this once or twice a week and that homeless look will never come knocking at your door. Tip 3.) Another neat tip is food. There is one in particular, Hills T/D diet prescription food that does wonders for those older dogs/cats that may need to avoid anesthesia. I have my familys pets on this food. Not only will it remove the lions share of tarter, but it keeps em looking good and sparkly.Yes. its costlier than regular food, but a lot less expensive than most of the alternatives. The main purpose here is to prevent oral infections. This means that every time the poor pet

their gender identity. Some female and male cross-dressers, drag queens or kings, female or male impersonators, and intersex individuals may also identify as transgender. Use the name and personal pronouns that are consistent with how the individual lives publicly. When possible, ask which term the person prefers. As a noun, use transgender people. Transgender man: A person who was considered female at birth but identifies and lives as a man. Transgender people sometimes use the acronym FTM, or female to male. Sometimes shortened colloquially to trans man. Transgender woman: A person who was considered male at birth but identifies and lives as a woman. Transgender people sometimes use the acronym MTF, or male to female. Sometimes shortened colloquially to trans woman. Transsexual (n and adj.): Avoid this antiquated term in favor of Transgender and Transgender people. Some individuals prefer it, but it can carry misleading medical connotations. Transvestite: Avoid this antiquated term. Synonymous with crossdresser.

Ian James, FreedomOhio co-founder, the campaign to bring the Freedom to Marry and Religious Freedom Amendment to voters, praised the poll. This poll confirms that an increasing number of Ohioans support mar-riage equality in our state,

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) has a new leader. The Rev. Elizabeth Eaton, Bishop of the Northeast Ohio Synod was elected as Presiding Bishop of the ELCA at the church's national conference in Pittsburgh. Bishop Eaton was elected on the fifth ballot with 600 votes compared to 287 for Bishop Mark Hanson who has led the ELCA for the last 12 years. Bishop Eaton, who becomes the first woman to lead the ELCA, addressed the issue of inclusion in her remarks to the assembly following her election. We are a church that is overwhelmingly European in a culture that is increasingly pluralistic. We need to welcome the gifts of those who come from different places, that is a conversation we need to have as a church. Some members were addressing concerns regarding full inclusion of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer members. Issues included understanding Transgender people and same-sex marriage and families. For some, full inclusion is a biblical imperative.
