On June 5, 2012, thenEnvironment Canada deputy minister Paul Boothe convened a meeting to discuss geoengineering, according to documents posted online by Mike de Souza, a Postmedia national political reporter. Geoengineering, which has been advocated by Straight columnist Gwynne Dyer in the past, was defined as "the intentional, largescale intervention in Earths environmental systems". The list of invitees included the deputy minister of defence, the director of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, and the national security adviser to the prime minister. Two classifications of geoengineering are presented as options to reduce future warming: carbon-dioxide removal (CDR) and solarradiation management (SRM). CDR methods include afforestation, ocean fertilization, and the direct extraction of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, the slides explain. One example of an SRM approach is to install "space-based orbiting mirrors" that would "reduce solar input". Another is to continually inject sulphur aerosols into the atmosphere "to mimic the effect of volcanoes". On the phone from Edmonton, Mike Hudema, a climate and energy campaigner for Greenpeace Canada, told the Straight that its encouraging to see the Harper government acknowledge climate change as human-driven, but argued that the Conservatives have reached the wrong conclusion. "If you admit that the climate crisis is happening and you agree with the scientific consensus that humans and greenhouse-gas emissions are the cause of it, then it is the governments responsibility to reduce those emissions," he said. Hudema called attention to Harpers support for the development of the Alberta tar sands, which he noted is the fastest-growing source of greenhouse gas emissions in the country. Kevin Washbrook, director of the Vancouver-based Voters Taking Action on Climate Change, similarly told the Straight that the government should be focusing on ways to reign in sources of pollution, such as the tar sands. Of course if these idiots actually put in a Norw ay type Royalty regime w hereby some 70% of the profits of Oil & Gas is kept by the Government instead of greedy price fixing Oil Corporations... ...than these idiots could actually pay for w hatever the hell they w anted to do even though no other major Pow er w ould allow them to do anything so stupid. Global w arming? Lot's of controversy about that issue and the validity of that theory. I'm sitting on the fence on this one. Of course, this "interest" could be an entre to attempting to validate the heavy metal poisoning w e are subjected to called chemtrailing.

Dyer doesn't actually endorse geo-engineering. He thinks it w ill become inevitable due to the inability of governments to act effectively. He also w arns it w ill likely trigger a major w ar. W ith a w arning like that (echoed by many others) it's hard to see how Dyer supports geo-engineering.

How on earth have w e gotten to the point of even talking about Geo-engineering w ithout even discussing the simple solution of going sustainable? If w e have money for that, then w e should have money to give everyone a solar pow er and get off our oil addiction. This is a very short term solution that w ill fail because it doesn't address the cause, I thought w e learned this kind of problem solving skills in elementary? Harper, are you smarter than a 5th grader?

Geoengineering is like fitting a condom on a penis after ejaculation -- it w on't w ork. Good w ords w on't either, not even from Obama the cow ard. Says the UK's The Guardian new spaper headline about Obama's latest efforts: "Obama's fracked-up climate strategy w ill guarantee global w arming disaster." adding in a subhead: "Fatally flaw ed energy policies and inadequate emissions pledges cannot prevent dangerous climate change." Worse yet, Harper is a dumb ass compared to Obama.

They might be heading in the right direction w ith mirrors, but use Photo Voltaic pannels instead, and beam the energy back to earth. Japan is already developing this technology and should have something up and running in the next decade.

Messing w ith nature can only have one outcome: w e loose. Nature can take care of itself, human kind cannot. As long as w e are a profit driven society, w e are doomed. W hy is it that some cultures revered nature and others exploited it? Maybe w e could start to learn from those w ho knew that messing w ith nature brings nothing but disaster. And proof of that is in the pudding .. just look at the flooding in Southern Alberta, most likely a result of Geo-engineering (Montana is dryer than a dog fart, so are the Dakotas, and they needed rain ... w ell, I guess something w ent w rong and the manufactured rain ended up in Alberta).

Geoengineering sounds good to me. The simplest solution w ould appear to be using nuclear energy to extract H2 and CO2 from the oceans (CO2 is 140 times more concentrated in the ocean than in the atmosphere) and use them to create liquid fuel. (Carbon Recycling International Inc in Iceland turns CO2 and H2 from geothermal springs into methanol on a commercial basis.) The CO2 produced by burning the methanol etc w ould recycle back into the oceans over a 5 to 10 year period.

Geo-engineering has been on-going since the first patents w ere introduced in 1997. Look up in the sky. W hen you see large w hite jet contrails that do not disperse, but w iden and form cloud-like coverage - you're observing patented geo-engineering. It's also referred to as cloud-seeding, but it depends on the patent. Weather modification companies refer to it as cloud-seeding. Perhaps GMO companies such as Monsanto (w ho do covert geoengineering spraying - yes, they're allow ed to....) w ould refer to their spray programs as 'crop-seeding'. Their purpose is to pollute natural soil systems w ith aluminum particulates to enable them to grow their patented seeds (versus natural seeds). i'm sorry... did my computer malfunction and conveniently suppress the paragraph about CHEMTRAILS. Yesterday, there w ere plenty of man-made chemical trails floating in the skies above Vancouver. For those of you w ho have not yet figured out that W E ARE BEING SPRAYED w ith chemtrails...you should be ashamed of yourselves. Research Chemtrails Canada or Chemtrails Vancouver or better yet Chemtrails 'insert you preferred location' on youtube and get the scoop about on-going man-made climate change.
