DATUM FEATURES

PLANES, POINTS, AXIS, CURVES, CO-ORDINATE SYSTEM.

DATUM FEATURES

Datum Features are not having the mass properties but it is used to give the reference.

USES OF DATUM PLANES

Sketching plane and reference plane for sketching. Dimensioning and alignment references in the sketch. Feature depth references (To Selected). Creating cross-sections. Reference plane for the mirror command.

DATUM PLANE

To create a plane it is compulsory that min 3 points are required or max 4 points.

Datum planes on default plane or planer surface

Through : Datum plane on planar surface. Offset : Datum plane with specified offset distance. Parallel : Specify point with CTRL. Normal : Select planer surface and then specify Normal plane and point with CTRL.

Creation of Datum planes

Offset from an existing datum plane or planar surface. Through an axis, edge, or curve. Normal to an existing datum plane or planar surface. Parallel to an existing datum plane or planar surface. At a specified angle to an existing datum plane or planar surface. Tangent to a cylindrical surface.

On Curved surface
Through : select surface and point with CTRL, Plane passes through center. Tangent : select surface, select tangent and select point with CTRL.

Angular planes
Select Edge and Plane/Planer surface with CTRL (Hinge support) Select Axis and reference plane with CTRL (Hinge support)

Other options

Combination of Two EDGES.

Combination of 3 POINTS with CTRL.

DATUM POINTS
General Point: On Edge or on Curve or

surfaces.

Sketched Point : On sketcher plane only. Offset Co-ordinate Point : Create file for

points applying co-ordinate system.

Field Datum Point : On plane or on Edge.

DATUM POINTS
1. To create datum planes and axes. 2. To associate note in the drawings and attach datum targets. 3. To create coordinate system. 4. To specify point loads for mesh generation. 5. To create pipe features.

DATUM AXIS
With Two Points. With Two Planes.

USES OF DATUM AXIS

Creating coaxial holes. Centerlines on drawings. To indicate symmetry on drawings. Geometric tolerances. Assembly placement constraints.

USES OF DATUM COORDINATE SYSTEM

Datum coordinate system can be used as a modeling or assembly reference , as a basis for calculations , and for assembling components.

COORDINATE SYSTEM OFFSET TYPES

Cartisian-Created by defining x,y,z parameters Cylindrical-Created by defining R, theta , Z parameters Spherical-Created by defining r , theta , and phi parameters.

COORDINATE SYSTEM PLACEMENT TYPES

Linear - Places the coordinate system using two linear dimensions

Radial Places the coordinate system using a radial dimension and angular dimension. Diameter Places coordinate system using a diametrical dimension and angular dimension.
