Abstract The purpose industrial visit to Institute of High Voltage and High Current (IVAT) is to know about the

function of this institute. The Institute of High Voltage and High Current (IVAT) of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia was established in1991. This institute initially is an educational laboratory which provides facilities to carry out experiment, research and aslo consultancy services in high voltage engineering. The industrial visit started by briefing from our lecturer about IVAT and introduce the facilities in IVAT. After that, the staff give demonstration about high voltage works in cable in one big circuit. The demonstration to test whether the appropriate cable to use at high voltage. IVAT have certified to carry out test and calibration work for high voltage equipment . The equipment for test and calibration of power system such as transformer, switchgear, bushings, insulator, cable and so on . The students asked the staff to get more information on how this institute. From this activity we get more knowledge about how high voltage and high current works. We also get chance from the institute to do research at here for final year project.

Introduction Industrial visits represent important activities in any engineering undergraduate programme that contribute to the achievement of various essential learning outcomes and programme objectives Several universities routinely conduct industrial visit as a part of their curriculum. In UTM for faculty of electric, we have to do industrial visit for our activity for course SKEE1012 . We have visit to Institute High Voltage and High Current (IVAT). IVAT was established in 1991 and initially is an educational laboratory to carry out an experiments, research, consultancy services in high voltage engineering. IVAT is center which carries out research and development, test and calibration works in high voltage areas. This institute became the first institution in the country to be accredited to handle high voltage test and calibration works according to ISO/IEC Guide 25 in 1992 and got other certification to handle high voltage calibration. Since IVAT got certification, they offers service for consultancy, calibration, testing and training services to various industries. There are also have collaborations with local and foreign research institutions and consultants such as Telekom Malaysia and TNBR Sdn. Bhd. IVAT also provides provides testing services of telecommunication protective devices.In industrial visit activity, we also showed a demonstration of test and calibration of a cable.

This industrial visit to IVAT is our first industrial visit that expose student about industry in our country. This activity also practical for our course to do report from this activity. The objective for this activity is how we get information from the industrial visit and do a reports about it.

Conclusion Industrial visit to IVAT give an experience how to handled test and calibration of high voltage cable. Moreover, we understand the importance of working safety because we got some exposure from the staff about the safety when carry out or handle the machine. Beside that, we also know about electrical industry such as when a company wants to sell their cable, the company must test the cable wether the cable get ready to use or not. Our goal for this activity totally successful because we got more information about IVAT and then they give opportunity to do research at there. The experience we got from this industrial visit we want use for next industrial visit at other industry to get more knowledge about our industry in this country.
