LAKESIDE PRIDE SYMPHONIC BAND CELEBRATES EQUALITY THROUGH MUSIC NOV. 9 AT NETTELHORST SCHOOL AUDITORIUM
CHICAGO, Nov. 4, 2013 Rallying around the right to pursue same-sex marriage, the Lakeside Pride Symphonic Band (www.lakesidepride.org) will perform Stand Up! A Musical Celebration of Equality at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Nettelhorst School Auditorium, 3252 N Broadway, Chicago, Ill. This special performancefeaturing the Chicago premiere of Colors: A Celebration by Composer Tim Jansapresents music that champions equality. Commissioned by the Atlanta Freedom Bands to commemorate its hosting of the 2013 Lesbian and Gay Band Association (LGBA) Conference, Colors: A Celebration is a reflection of the diversity, strength and unbreakable spirit of the LGBT community. Concertgoers will have the opportunity to speak with Composer Tim Jansa about his musical interpretation of the Gay Rights Movementfrom Stonewall to the present during a special PreConcert Conversation. This conversation is FREE to all ticket holders and will be held in the Nettelhorst School Auditorium approximately 30 minutes before the start of the concert. This special evening includes a musical tribute to civil rights heroine Rosa Parks written by Chicago composer Mark Camphouse, A Movement for Rosa, Candide Suite and Somewhere (from West Side Story) by Leonard Bernstein, as well as Wedding March by Felix Mendelssohn. Additional works on the program inspire a sense of victory, transcendent peace, and hope for the future. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased through www.lakesidepride.org or onsite at the Nettelhorst School Auditorium before the start of the concert. Student and senior tickets are available for $12. A portion of the proceeds from all ticket sales benefits the Equality Illinois Education Project, the 501(c)(3) arm of Equality Illinois, which focuses on educational outreach on behalf of the LGBT community. Attendees will also have the opportunity to bid on magnificent silent auction items coordinated by the Lakeside Pride Music Ensembles Board of Directors during intermission and after the concert. Items include an autographed hockey stick with the 2013/14 roster of the Chicago Blackhawks; passes to Chicago cultural institutions, including the Museum of Contemporary Art and The Field Museum; as well as delicious meals at South Water Kitchen and Wood Chicago, among others.
