Outdoor Recreation: Footprints in the Sand

I. History
No records have been written from which this game/activity has originated or first
payed. !It may be an evoved from of previousy e"isting traditiona game/activity.#
However$ its name and main principe can be rooted from a we%&nown narrative
poem in '()*. In the poem +Footprints in the Sand, by -ary Stevenson$ the main
character dreamt about wa&ing aong the beach with the .ord. From there$ scenes
oh his/her ife are being fashed in the s&y. In the beginning$ there were two pairs of
footprints. /ut$ when the ow periods of his/her ife were fashed$ there was ony a
pair of prints. 0hat moment$ the .ord carried him/her.
II. 1ayers
0here is no definite number of payers but the number of payers for each team
must be the same for a. 1ayers can be mae or femae$ but it is better to have e2ua
distribution in each group. It can be payed by chidren as young as 3 years od$
imiting the game to simpe set prints. If number of payers in a group e"ceeds the
specified$ ta&ing turns wi be done.
III. Settings
0he settings can be outdoor or indoor. 4rassy fieds and sandy beaches are
recommended outdoor settings. -eanwhie$ it can be payed indoors on matted or
cushioned pay area. 5 wide pay area wi be beneficia to a payers.

/oundary designators wi be needed to assign areas. 0imer wi be needed by
each faciitator.

5. 4round 1reparation
0here wi be two areas 7 the waiting area and the paying area. 5t east 3%m
distance must be between the two areas.
/. Formation
0here is no definite formation for the game8 however it wi be better if payers wi
arrange themseves.
9. 5ssignment of Roes
5 eader must be assigned per group. 0he eader pays from the first set unti the
ast set in a rounds of the game. 0he eader aso strategi:es with his/her team.
5 faciitator wi be assigned to each group. 0he faciitator tes the needed set
prints and chec&s whether it is propery e"ecuted. He/She then records the time of
e"ecution. 0he faciitator announces the +4o, signa.

0here wi be no seection of +it,. 0he assignment of faciitator to the group wi be
done by random pic&ing.
<. Ob=ectives
0he win in a round$ the group must finish first. 0o finish a round$ the payer/s
must pass each set. 0o pass a set$ the payer/s must perform the needed set print
!number of footprint/s and/or handprint/s# and sustain the position for a ength of time
!at east '3 seconds#.
6I. -ovements
'. 0hree groups wi be formed with five payers each. 4roups with e"cess
members wi have to ta&e turns.
>. 0he group assigns team eader to pay for a rounds.
). 5 faciitator is assigned to the group by random pic&ing.
?. <ach group positions themseves on the waiting area opposite to the paying
area where their faciitators are.
3. 0he team eaders ready themseves and the reay is started with a +4o, signa
from the faciitators.
*. 0he payer/s wi move to the paying area in the specified manner.
@. Apon reaching the paying area$ the faciitator wi announce the set print.
B. 0he payer/s e"ecute/s the set print. !Note: 1arts of the body$ aside from the
specified set print$ shoud not touch the foor of other ob=ects on the foor.#
(. 5fter propery e"ecuting the set print and sustaining it for '3 seconds$ the
payer/s wi return to their waiting area to fetch another member from their
group. !Note: 0he time is recorded after the faciitator verifies the position.#
'C. If the payer/s fai/s to sustain the position during the timing$ he/she/they wi
have to return to their waiting area and go bac& again to the paying area and
perform the same set print.
''. 0he reay continues unti the ast set print is competed.
'>. One victory in a round is considered one point. 0here wi be three rounds$
thus a ma"imum of three points can be possiby achieved. 0he group with the
greatest number of points wins.
