Hello everyone, week four already, before we know it the end of the year will be upon us. As mentioned in the last newsletter there are a number of important events scheduled for this term. The School Athletics Faction Carnival will be held next week, jumps and throws will be on Tuesday and all other events on Thursday. Week 7 the Interschool Athletics Carnival will be held Tuesday jumps, throws and 800 metre race and Friday all other events. We extend our thanks and gratitude to the many parent helpers on the day, without your support it would be virtually impossible to run these kinds of events. The Year Seven Graduation is possibly the most anticipated event on the school calendar for our graduating students. Preparation is well underway, coordinated by Mr Swann with the support of Mrs Murray and Mrs Fethers and of course the wonderful office staff. You will be receiving invitations and advice on the proceedings as we get closer to the date. The students from the Community Kindergarten have begun a transition program to Pre Primary. Today was the first time the children have come to the school. The transition program aims to make the move to school as easy and smooth as possible for the child and their family. A transition program for the Pre Primary students has also begun with the Pre Primary children joining in with the year 1 students for lunch and then in the playground. This is going very well with all children adapting to their new surroundings very quickly. Bushfire Survival Plan We are rapidly approaching that time of the year when there is a heightened risk of bushfire. During the bushfire season it is important that all families develop a Bushfire Survival Plan to prepare for the possibility of bushfire. For further information and suggestions visit www.dfes.wa.gov.au Parking: Please be aware that the Staff Car Parks are strictly for staff only. We have had a couple of near misses and one small accident where people have driven into the Car Park to pick up children or drop them and then had to reverse out. This is a very dangerous thing to do as you cannot see children running through the Car Parks. There is only one way out of both Staff Car Parks and that is to reverse. I realise parking is at a premium; however I do thank you most sincerely for your efforts to support us in ensuring the safety of all our students. Vandalism This is something that I really do not like having to report, however on the weekend, Saturday night, some young people have broken into Room 4 and vandalised the classroom. Student work was destroyed along with damage to property. Another room, Pre Primary 3, had a window smashed. Fortunately we have security cameras which have provided us with some very good information concerning the vandalism. If you live within proximity of the school it would be hugely appreciated if you could report to police any activity occurring at the school which appears suspicious. Attendance For weeks 1 and 2 Pre Primary had the highest attendance rate 94.8%, congratulations this is a wonderful achievement. This Thursdays assembly will be hosted by Room 3. Finally a reminder that Friday 8 November is a School Development Day and students do not attend. Maxine Augustson Principal

Mount Lockyers EBook Library Mt Lockyer now has an eBook digital library to complement our traditional school library. We currently only have a small selection of books for children to borrow but will increase the volume as demand requires. All children and their parents can access these books if you have an internet connection. Once downloaded, books can be read off-line. At the moment the borrowing period is for one week. Most year 4-7 children have already registered and can now borrow. Children from K-3 and some of the middle and senior classes have yet to register and this can be done from home or school. REGISTERING Using the address bar at the top of your computer screen (dont use GOOGLE, YAHOO etc.) type in mlps.wheelers.co and the following screen will appear. Click Sign in > Register. To help children remember their login details, I encourage them to use ones that

they are familiar with e.g. their Reading Eggs or Mathletics user name and password. Once registered, I will be notified and will approve registration. Once approved, children will be free to borrow. DEVICES Make use of the HELP tab. Depending on what device you use will depend on which reading application (free software) you will need to download. FEEDBACK As this is a new direction for our library, I would appreciate any feedback, positives, negatives, glitches etc. I can be contacted at school or email, michael.simojoki@education.wa.edu.au

MANAGING STUDENT BEHAVIOUR

The key to this approach is that the child is given a choice at each step to follow directions or face increased consequences. Students making GOOD CHOICES are acknowledged for their efforts. For students making POOR CHOICES the following consequences apply ~
STEP 1 Student refuses to follow directions. Verbal warning. STEP 2 Student still refuses to follow directionsIn-class consequence e.g. Time Out STEP 3 Student still refuses to follow directionsOut-of-class consequence e.g. Buddy Class. STEP 4 Student still refuses to follow directionsRED CARD is sent to the office. Parents will be requested to attend school. SUSPENSION Students will be immediately suspended for verbal abuse of staff and/or violence towards staff or students.

WHAT IS BULLYING? Bullying is when a student or group keep picking on another student. They try to hurt them physically or emotionally. The behaviour is deliberate and repeated. A fight or disagreement between equal students is not bullying. HOW TO STOP BULLYING Tell an adult, it is not dobbing to ask for help. Both victim and those bullying will be counselled and supported. Do not be a by-stander; if you witness bullying try to stop it or report it. IF YOU ARE BULLYING Step 1: Warning Step 2: In school isolation and counselling at recess and lunch, parents will be notified Step 3: For continued breaches students will be suspended.

RE-ENTRY FOLLOWING SUSPENSION Students returning from suspension must be accompanied by an adult and will attend the Intervention Centre (Room 20) where an Individual Behaviour Management Plan will be developed and implemented.
