Cette mconnaissance - excusable aux degrs prparatoires, regrettable au niveau suprieur - rappelle s'il en est besoin, la ncessit de porter l'effort sur ce qui est et restera difficile et non de ressasser ce que Ton connait. INSTRUCTIONS

Iftechnical practise includes this son ofstudiy, it is not always clearly applied. However, as for the piano and the violin, where finger dexterity is so important, the clarinet is no exception, due to its complicated system W. These exerdses - deliberately limited in number, because ofthe attention that they require - are the only way to obtain digital strength and independence as well as breath control in mp or w$f performance. Thus the (proposed) annotations W enable acquiring positive use offingers that are alas too often forgotten! This weakness - understandable in preparatory levis and regrettable in superior ones reminds one ofthe necessity of concentrating on what is difficult and not to simply regurgitate what one has learnt. Finally, the preparation for the trill (lst figure) confirms the interest ofthis study, where quality should prevail, since knowing how to practise is a gift. Jacques LANCELOT
