Organizing and Revising
In Chapter 1, you learned to write a paragraph about one main idea. Every sentence should be relevant to the main idea. When you revise, you should take out irrelevant sentences.
Read a students first draft of a paragraph about the night. Check the paragraph for irrelevant ideas. Write the sentence numbers of the irrelevant ideas on the lines below. Irrelevant sentences:

Edit the paragraph below for subjects and verbs. To do this, underline the subjects and circle the verbs. You will discover that five of the sentences are missing a subject or verb. On the lines beneath the paragraph, rewrite the entire paragraph and correct the sentences. Add subjects and verbs as necessary and use correct paragraph format.
