MULTISTAGE PROTECTION for HIGH DENSITY MDF MODULES

Eart hing The protectors are referenced to earth via the frame of the KRONE disconnect block. It is essential that the connection between the frame and ground is of high integtrity. Specifications

Introduction
Modern digital switching systems are highly susceptible to transient voltage disturbances. The traditional protection offered by shunt-connected gas-filled arresters is no longer a suitable form of protection for these switches. Novaris MDF module protectors feature dual stage protection providing lower let through voltages that provide a safe working environment for sensitive digital equipment.

O p erat io n Novaris single pair protectors are dual stage overvoltage protection modules designed for the protection of PSTN equipment and low voltage control circuits, against transient overvoltages caused by lightning, induced impulses and other voltage surges.
Each protection module contains a circuit that has primary protection provided by a gas-filled arrester and secondary protection provided by clamping diodes. The two stages are balanced by series impedance that has been designed to minimise the let-through voltage and maximise the life of the protector. KP10 protection modules are virtually maintenance free as they are designed to fail-safe. The PCB tracks between the line side terminals and gas arrester primary protection act as fuses, causing the line to open circuit in the event of a surge exceeding the capacity of the primary arrester. This failure mode is preferred to an open-circuit arrester that gives no indication of failure. If such a failure occurs, service is interrupted giving a positive indication of a fault condition.
