The Greatest Invitation

1.After learning all this information how can I make a commitment to Jesus Christ? ANSWER: Baptism is a symbol of commitment, loyalty, and allegiance to Jesus Christ. 2.What did Jesus tell his followers to do throughout the world? Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, _________ _____ in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. NOTE: Jesus commissioned His disciples to teach all nations, and after they are taught, to baptize them. 3.How often is Baptism spoken of in the New Testament?

ANSWER: Baptism is mentioned more than 80 times in the New Testament. 4.According to the Bible, how many baptisms are there? Ephesians 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one ________. NOTE: Today, in the Christian World, there are many different modes of baptism. Some say the right way is by sprinkling, others say its by pouring, still others say it is by immersion. I heard of one preacher who baptized his grandson 3,000 miles away via telephone! One television evangelist sprinkled his audience with water before he covered everyone he ran out. Not knowing what to do next he proceeded to grab a can of coke and began to sprinkle the people with it! Does it matter what type of baptism is used? What does baptism symbolize anyway? 5.Why did John baptize in Aenon near Salim? John 3:23 And John was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was _____ _____ _____: and they came, and were baptized. NOTE: Evidently having a lot of water is very important when baptizing. The reason for this is that the word baptism, is derived from the greek work baptizo which means to immerse or submerge. Therefore, the only Biblical model for baptism is, baptism by immersion. 6.What is given to those who are baptized? Matthew 3:16-17 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway ___ __ ___ ______: and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

NOTE: Here we have a very powerful scene. Jesus the sinless one - is baptized! Why would Jesus need to be baptized? Jesus was baptized for two primary reasons. The first reason was He was being baptized to give us an example of how we should be baptized. Reason number two, He was baptized for those who could not be baptized because some who believe in Christ are not able to be baptized because of failing health, etc. Also, note that upon the baptism of Jesus the Holy Spirit was poured out on Him. This is significant for believers today also. When a person is baptized, when they realize their sinfulness and decide to accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, they also receive the Holy Spirit! 7.What preceded the baptism of the Ethiopian Eunuch? Acts 8:26-28, 30-32 And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert. And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship, Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet. And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, _____________ thou what thou readest? And he said, How can I, except some man should ______ ___? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth: NOTE: This Ethiopian Eunuch was returning from Jerusalem, he was there to worship God. So, He was a Jew, with a solid understanding of the Scriptures. (Only The Old Testament at that time) But, he was befuddled by some of the prophecies concerning the Messiah. He could not make sense of the meaning of these verses. But, God led Phillip to close proximity to this man who was diligently searching for the truth. And

after Philip taught him, as we will learn in the verses following, then He was baptized. Why didnt Philip immediately baptize this man? During this time of earths history the present truth for that time was that Jesus Christ was the Messiah. He had to learn important truths that were imperative for that time. When he was taught, and saw the truthfulness of the teachings, then he was baptized. This is something that is very important today also. Today, some are baptized without having a solid understanding of the teachings of the Bible. This is unfair to those who want to be baptized, because they go into this lifelong commitment without adequate knowledge of Jesus first. It is very similar to marriage. When a person, decides to marry, in order for the relationship to be healthy for the rest of their life, they need to spend time to get to know the other person, if not, then there is a greater risk that the marriage will not work out. In order for us to have an abundant life with Jesus Christ, we need to get to know Him first before we accept Him as our Savior and Lord. Therefore, is it Biblical for babies to be baptized? No, because babies cannot make life changing decisions, nor can they realize there need for a Savior, each individual, once they reach an age in which they can comprehend the plan of salvation, must make that choice for him or herself. 8.If infant baptism isnt found in the Bible, where did it come from? ANSWER: 6th. century AD. - Janus was twice born. Holy water used for baptism was made by plunging a torch from the altar into the water as the sun-god plunged into the water and the womb. The following curse was pronounced on R.C. church defectors: May the Son who suffered for us curse him! May the Holy Spirit who suffered for us in baptism curse him! Let him be accursed who says adults must be baptized. (History of Romanism, P .510)

For several centuries after the establishment of Christianity, baptism was conferred by immersion, but since the twelfth century the practice of baptizing by infusion has prevailed in the Catholic church, as this manner is attended with less inconvenience than Baptism by immersion. James Cardinal Gibbons, The faith of our Fathers, 110th. ed. p.277 NOTE: It was not until the Council of Ravenna in 1311 AD. That sprinkling and pouring were officially accepted as equally valid as immersion in the rite of baptism. 1. Where did Philip take the Eunuch to baptize him? Acts 8:36-38 And as they went on there way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believe with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down ____ into the ______, both Philip and the Eunuch; and he ________ him. NOTE: Here again we see an example of Baptism, they had to both go into the water and there he was baptized. 2.What is the meaning of Bible baptism? Romans 6:3-4 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his _____? Therefore we are ______ with him by baptism into _____: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in __________ of life. NOTE: The meaning of baptism is a deep one. Baptism represents the death of the old life of sin, burying our sins in the watery grave, and a spiritual resurrection into the new life of joy with Jesus Christ. And lastly, baptism doesnt mean you are perfect, it means that you are committed.

3.What happens when we are baptized? ANSWER: Every sin is forgiven Acts 2:38 The Spirit is given to us. Mark 1:10, Acts 2:38, 39 We are adopted into Gods family Acts 2:41, 42, 47; 1 Corinthians 12:12, 13, 20 We are given gifts for the service of Christ Ephesians 4:11-13 4.What steps should a person take before baptism? ANSWER: Repent a genuine sorrow for sin. Believe an acceptance of Jesus as both Savior and Lord. Learn instructions in the essentials of Biblical faith. 5.Should a person ever be re-baptized? Acts 19:2-5 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as ______ whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto Johns baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were ________ __ in the name of the Lord Jesus. NOTE: For what reasons would a person want to be rebaptized? They were once baptized and departed from Christ, but now they long to return. Or they are committed Christians who have discovered the truth of Gods Word, and desire to be part of His commandment keeping people. 6.How important is baptism? John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except

a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he __________ _____ into the __________ of God. NOTE: Baptism is not an option for those who are born again. It is a public declaration to the world that you have accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, and that you, by the grace of God, are committed to live a life dedicated to Him. 7.What happens in heaven when a sinner accepts Jesus as Lord and Savior and is baptized? Luke 15:10 Likewise I say unto you, there is ___ in the presence of the ______ of God over ____ sinner that _________. NOTE: It is a comforting thought that the angels and all of heaven are deeply interested in the welfare of each individual on this planet. They break out in into indescribable joy when a man or a woman, boy or girl, repents and is baptized! 8.What is one incredible fringe benefit of being baptized? 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a ___ ______: old things are _________ away; behold all things are become _____. NOTE: When a person makes a decision for Jesus and is baptized, there former life is forgotten, old things are passed away. And they become born again, in a spiritual manner, in the same way that a baby is born into the world with newness of life the repentant sinner has a new start. 9.What is the Biblical counsel to those who are hesitating to make this decision? Acts 22:16 And now ____ _______ thou? Arise, and be _____ _, and wash away thy ____, calling on the name of the Lord.

NOTE: There are many decisions in life that are made that are regrettable, but giving your life to Jesus is never something to regret. It is the most important decision a person can ever make. This decision is even more important than marrying a spouse. This decision is a decision that has eternity in view, and unparalleled joy in this life, and in the life to come. MY DECISION FOR JESUS

I choose to accept Jesus Christ as Savior, by baptism, a public declaration of my commitment to Him as Savior and Lord, and by doing so joining, The Seventh-day Adventist Chruch, Gods Commandment keeping people, who purpose in their heart to be obedient to Him by the power of His might, because of their great love for Jesus Christ (John 14:15). Do you wish to make this step of faith for Jesus? Yes or No
