A university student who was raped by two Polish men after being dropped off at the wrong address by a taxi called for the pair to be deported yesterday, saying: Sorry is not good enough. The 19-year-old was left semi-conscious after her drink was spiked at a club and the Poles took her into their house, where they attacked her. The pair drove away a passer-by who tried to come to her aid. But he contacted the girls mother using her mobile phone, which she had dropped outside. Her mother arrived 30 minutes later and screamed her daughters name from outside before calling the police.

When officers came to the address they found one of the men in bed with the unconscious victim. The man later smirked as they arrested him, a court heard. Roman Smentek, 37, and Krzysztof Drozdz, 26, were both jailed for eight years and nine months yesterday at Hull Crown Court after admitting rape. Judge Michael Mettyear said they had lied and lied about their involvement with the girl and had pleaded

guilty not out of any sense of remorse but because the evidence against them was overwhelming. Outside court the victim said she could remember little about what happened on the night in March, but had been left devastated by the attack. In the days afterwards, I couldnt talk to anyone, I was being sick, she said. Sorry is not good enough and never will be. I hope the two men are deported once they are released as that will allow me to try and forget what happened a lot easier. I have many unanswered questions from the night. The court heard that the teenager had been dropped off at the Poles house in Hull after a night out in March when the taxi driver was unable to understand her instructions.

Forensic tests suggested that both Smentek (pictured) and Drozdz had raped the 19-year-old victim

She fell into the garden and was sick before being carried into the hallway by her two attackers despite a passer-by challenging them. The unidentified man who was awarded 250 by the judge for his good citizenship saw the girl being taken into a bedroom and tried to stay with her. Prosecutor Mark McKone said he was challenged aggressively by Smentek and told to leave. He refused but was eventually ushered out of the house. However, he managed to contact the girls mother after finding her number on the address book of the phone he found in the garden. The court heard she came to the property 30 minutes later and screamed her daughters name from outside. She saw men laughing and one looking out of the curtains. She dialled 999 and officers arrived to force their way inside. Mr McKone said: Police found the girl and Smentek in bed and she was asleep. She was not moving. He was asked by the police who the girl was and he shrugged his shoulders.

It took some time for police to wake her and she was confused and distressed when awoken. Smentek smirked at police, as if he was proud of himself, and was arrested. Forensic tests suggested that both Smentek and Drozdz had raped her. They denied the offence but changed their pleas to guilty the day before they were due to stand trial. Smentek had worked and lived in the UK for two years. Drozdz had been working as a supervisor in a factory for the five and a half years since he arrived in the UK. They will both be on the Sex Offenders Register for life. Their victim, who is studying social care at university, is still suffering from the attack and said the lack of sleep had affected her studies. I didnt really communicate with anyone and I didnt want to talk about it and just stayed in my room, she said.

It has devastated our family and we cant put the past five months into words. Ive found out who my true friends are who have stuck by me throughout this. I am scared someone is watching me sleeping at night, and I still have nightmares. Im just going to try and keep myself occupied with my studies and live my life as normally as I can. During sentencing, Judge Mettyear said of the victim: How she will manage her life in the future is uncertain, but perhaps she will draw a line under this case when it has finished.

I do wish we'd get rid of degenerates like this though, I have nothing against foreign people working in this country but it seems far too many of these stories end like this.
