In mathematics, the geometric mean is a type of mean or average, which indicates the central tendency or typical value of a set

of numbers by using the product of their values (as opposed to the arithmetic mean which uses their sum). The geometric mean is defined as the nth root (where n is the count of numbers) of the product of the numbers.

In mathematics, the inequality of arithmetic and geometric means, or more briefly the AM--GM inequality, states that the arithmetic mean of a list of non-negative real numbers is greater than or equal to thegeometric mean of the same list; and further, that the two means are equal if and only if every number in the list is the same.

Example 1: What is the geometric mean of 2, 8 and 4? Solution: Multiply those numbers together. Then take the third root (cube root) because there are 3 numbers.

Example: What is the geometric mean of 4, 9, 9, and 2? Solution: Just multiply the four numbers and take the 4th root:
