31.2 I-240W-S and I-241W-S general description
I-240W-S and I-241W-S indoor ONTs provide the subscriber interface for the
network by terminating the PON interface and converting it to user interfaces that
directly connect to subscriber devices. The ONT is compatible with all existing
subscriber equipment, including analog phones with both tone and rotary dial
capabilities, cordless phones, modems, fax machines, and caller ID boxes (Type I,
Type II, and Type III).
I-240W-S and I-241W-S indoor ONTs provide the following functions:
four configurable 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet interfaces using RJ-45 ports
two POTS interfaces using RJ-11 ports
single mode fiber (SC/APC connector)
IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi interface to enable wireless access
fully G.984 series GPON standard compliant
G984.5 standard compliant
compliance with FCC part 15 Class B

ONT Product !nformation Guide
Figure 31-S I-240W-S and I-241W-S ONT hardware block
ONT SoC technology consists of five key elements:
GPON MAC
The Gigabit Passive Optical Network Media Access Control (GPON MAC)
element on the SoC terminates the GPON interface using an optical diplexer. This
interface supports GPON as described in G.984.3 (GPON TC Layer) ITU
specification.
Ethernet MAC
The SoC provides up to four GE MACs.
DSP interface
The Digital Signal Processor (DSP) provides voice processing for 2 POTS lines
with the 3-way calling. The DSP has a dedicated 64 kbyte instruction cache and
shares a 32 kbyte data cache with the Control Processor.
Control Processor
The Control Processor features an integral memory management unit that
supports a dedicated 64 kbyte instruction cache and shares a single 32 kbyte data
cache with the DSP. The Control Processor and DSP also include a single channel
Data Management Application (DMA) controller with a 4 kbyte read ahead
low-latency Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) access port. The
processors typically run at 400 MHz.
Switch matrix
The Switch matrix provides an integrated data channel between the four GE
MACs, the GPON MAC, the DSP, the control processor, and the other integrated
elements such as flash memory, DRAM, and the local bus controller.
These ONTs can also interact with additional hardware components to support
functionality not provided by the SoC technology.

31.11 I-240W-S and I-241W-S special considerations
I-240W-S and I-241W-S indoor ONT considerations and

Table 31-11 lists the considerations and limitations for I-240W-S and I-241W-S
ONTs.
Table 31-11 I-240W-S and I-241W- S ONT considerations and limitations
Upgrade considerations and limitations
Existing ONTs that use 7342 ISAMFTTU releases older than R04.06.xx and
R04.07.xx must be upgraded to use R04.00.10 software while assigned to a PON ID
value smaller than 64. For this purpose, if split ratios larger than 1:64 are being
deployed, you may choose to set aside the first PON ID as a staging point.
Considerations and limitations
The ONT only supports ONC!v2 provisioning model
voice management using TR-069fTR-10+ is not supported

Wi-Fi service
I-240W-S and I-241W-S indoor ONTs feature Wi-Fi service as well as voice, video,
and data services. Wi-Fi is a wireless networking technology that uses radio waves
to provide wireless HSI and network connections. This ONT complies with the IEEE
802.11 standards, which the Wi-Fi Alliance defines as the basis for Wi-Fi
technology.
Wi-Fi physical features
I-240W-S and I-241W-S indoor ONTs have the following physical features that
assist in providing Wi-Fi service:
one external multi-directional antennae
Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) push button, with indicator LED, for adding
WPS-enabled wireless devices
Wi-Fi standards, certifications and services
The Wi-Fi service on I-240W-S and I-241W-S indoor ONTs support the following
standards and Wi-Fi Alliance certifications:
compliant with IEEE 802.1x EAP encapsulation
certified for IEEE 802.11b/g/n standards
multiple SSID and WDS
Residential gateway
interfaces
Both LAN and WAN connections are provided.
On the up to four WAN connections on the WAN side the following
services are provided
HS! internet service
!PTv including voD and Nulticast service
TR-069 remote management
vo!P (ACS-controlled vo!P service)
Only the HS! and !PTv interfaces are used for routing services for LAN
devices. The traffic on other interfaces terminates at the ONT. !PoE and
PPPoE can be configured for each interface with the exception of the
!PTv interface which does not support the PPPoE mode.
On the two LAN connections the following services are provided
Home network interface is the main interface includes four Ethernet
ports, one Wi-Fi AP, and one USB interface. All of these interfaces
are bridged. The user on this interface can access HS! and !PTv
services. From the LAN side, web GU!s and TR-06+ are used to
manage the ONT. UPnP !GD and DLNA services are not supported
on this interface.
Guest network interface is an extra LAN interface with only one Wi-Fi
AP attached. Guests can access HS! and !PTv services but can not
access the ONT management interface. UPnP !GD and DLNA
services are not supported on this interface.
Nulticast !GNP snooping for home network interface
!GNP proxy for WAN !PTv interface
Nulticast service is not supported on the guest network interface

Safety information
Read the following safety information before installing the unit.
Procedure
Use this procedure to install an !-2+0W-S or !-2+1W-S indoor ONT.
1 Prepare the cables at the site where the ONT will be installed (DLP 100).
2 Are any of the cables missing?
a !f yes, go to step 3.
b !f no, go to step +.
3 Locate each missing cable and route them to the ONT as per local practices.
4 Place the indoor ONT unit:
a On the flat surface, such as a desk.
i Wrap the excess optic cable inside the fiber storage tray.
ii Attach the fiber storage tray to the ONT.
0anger 1 - Contact the local utility company before you connect the
enclosure to the utilities.
0anger 2 - Observe the local and national laws and regulations that
may be applicable to this installation.
Warning - This equipment is ESD sensitive. Proper ESD protections
should be used when removing the fiber access cover of the indoor ONT.
Caution - Keep indoor ONTs out of direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure
to direct sunlight can damage the unit.
Note - Observe the following:
The indoor ONT should be installed in accordance with the applicable
requirements of the NEC or CEC. Local authorities and practices take
precedent when there is conflict between the local standard and the
NEC or CEC.
The indoor ONT must be installed by qualified service personnel.
!ndoor ONTs must be installed with cables that are suitably rated and
listed for indoor use.
See the detailed specifications in the !-2+0W-S and !-2+1W-S unit
data sheet for the temperature ranges for these ONTs.
