2 Biology Bu Alisa Rice GMO GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) is an organism whose genetic material has been altered using specific engineering techniques. Any genetic plant, fish or animal that has a gene or genes from different species transferred into its genetic material. In food, the GMO process is called GMF (Genetically Modified Food) which help the food improve its population from the disasters happened in nowadays. The goals of GMO producers is to become more productive with their product are to grow vegetables and fruits that can have a longer life span, increase profits and increasing yield, tolerance to drought and salinity, which can help people around the world to create bigger rice population, preventing from pests and diseases. This process is also the best solution to the world hunger. Rice is the worlds important crop. Rice makes up the food source for almost half of the worlds population. People in China, India, and Southeast Asian are very commonly produces rice. Controlling weeds and pests are the main reason why 80 percent of the worlds rice fields are flooded. It is so hard to control them, keep passing through for their cycle of life. There are many researcher that trying to find a new concept for combatting pests and diseases. That big project is being conducted at International Agricultural Research Centre, with the purpose for meet breeding goals, namely, to develop robust, high yielding cultivars, no spraying, resistance to viral, bacterial, and the fungal pathogens. By using this method, it can produce the prevention of vitamin deficiencies. Rice is known for having too little iron and vitamin A. Thats why researcher (genetic engineering projects) are focusing on the rices nutrition value. By this GMO, the rice may have a metabolic precursor to vitamin A and have a good nutrition value. Golden Rice has been tested in 2004 and available from 2011. Today, Rice GMO has been established in USA, Canada, Mexico, Colombia and Australia. These countries have been approved the existence of GMO Rice. However, the purpose of GMO is to help the hunger of poor people, the cultivation of GMO Rice is expected in the near future in China, India, Indonesia, and on the Philippines. However, Some people also hesitate to eat GMO food. GMO have been banned since 1998. There are a lot of people around the world protest about GMO foods. They said

that GMO food are rubbish because they are not natural, they are basically artificial. A restaurant named Chipotles said, Our goal is to eliminate GMOs from Chipotles ingredients, and were working hard to meet this challenge. Scientists that are against GMO are also trying to find a new method to solve hunger. How? Insects for food, there are a lot of insects that have a good protein, and other nutrition value. But the question is that, Does people at the future will eat insects? Well, I think most of the people rather eat GMOs than insects. While GMOs are still in process in our supply chain, there are responsibilities to raised meats and dairy from animals raised without GMO feed. Raising food is a journey.
