Abstract

It was not only a research but also the initiation of us, (the fresher), into the research world. This research helps us to understand what the ethical policies of any organization are and why these policies are necessary to follow. After some time when we get job in any organization, this research helps us to prevent our job because we already have an idea if we dont follow the ethical policies of the organization then we are terminations/dismissal from services. In this research we see that what are the affect occurs on the public health when any company dont follow their ethical policies. In this research we also learns that how we complete the research and research report. I suggest the HSE&S manager of AkzoNobel Pakistan Limited (ICI DULUX) that they also give the invitation card to the painters to attends the training programs related to paint and environment, common painting problems and their solution and painting techniques because the painter play a important rule in the use of paint product and they dont know the following things: How can I dispose of my unwanted paint? What is the difference between water-based and solvent-based products? What are Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)? Which brushes do I use for which job? What type of roller do I use? Most of the companies in Pakistan do not follow their ethical policy. These companies do not ensure that all its activities are conducted safely; the health of its employees, its contractors, its customers and the neighbors are protected. Product of these companies does not comply fully with HSE&S Policy, Directives and HSE&S. These companies do not manufacture and sell only those products that can be produced, transported, stored, used and disposed of safely. Product of these companies effects the peoples health and cause to increase the environmental pollution. These companies do not give the training of its employees, its contractors, its customers to use and store their product. These companies do not ensure the safety of its employees, do not give the defensive driving training of its employees and not have the policy to stop working in the rain. All of these factors become the cause of the people death. Paint products are inherently beneficial to the environment because these products contain highly Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). Today the biggest environmental issue facing the paint industry is that of Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emissions and their contribution to air pollution, or more simply, the effect of solvents contained in paints on the air that we breathe. All of these ethical issues occurs in many companies thats why we take research on ethical policy of AkzoNobel Pakistan Limited (ICI DULUX). We will study the ethical policy of AkzoNobel Pakistan Limited (ICI DULUX) and visit their regional office in Islamabad, meet of its HSE&S Director, employees, contractors and painters, visit the industry and houses where ICI paint are used before one or two years. Do not breathe vapor or sanding dust. If discomfort persists or any breathing difficulty occurs seek medical advice. Harmful, may cause lung damage if swallowed. If swallowed seek medical advice immediately and show this container or label. In case of insufficient ventilation during spraying wear suitable respiratory equipment. All respiratory equipment must meet an appropriate approved standard. When applying paint it is advisable to wear eye protection. In case of contact with eyes rinse immediately with plenty of water keeping eyelids apart and seek medical advice, Irritating to eyes and skin. Avoid contact with skin. No smoking policy
The management at AkzoNobel Pakistan Limited (ICI DULUX) believes that smoking is injurious to health and is committed to protect its employees from the potential hazard of active as well as the passive smoking therefore, a No-smoking policy has been implemented throughout the company. The policy covers all employees, contractors, visitors and guests located on the plant, offices and regional warehouses. All buildings at pants, warehouse training centers and all offices will non-smoking except in designated smoking areas, which shall be out of the buildings and shall be clearly sign posted. All communal areas e.g. corridors, toilets, conference and meetings rooms will be nosmoking areas. Signs clearly publicizing the no-smoking policy will be posted at each building entrance. Gate office staff & receptionist will draw these to the attentions of visitors. Alcohol and Substance Abuse Policy Statement

The alcohol and substance abuse policy of AkzoNobel Pakistan Limited (ICI DULUX) is a part of the occupational health management system, which is aimed at prevention of injuries and harm to the health and safety of employees and others persons as a result of our activities. It recognizes that alcohol and substances abuse can adversely affect the health and safety of its employee, their efficiency and productivity. It therefore requires its employees to attend to their duties in a fit state unimpaired from the effects of alcohol and or any other prohibited substances. Being unfit for work because of such abuse is strictly prohibited and may lead to terminations/dismissal from services. In strict of this policy , AkzoNobel Pakistan Limited (ICI DULUX) shall: Educate its employee about the harmful effect or risk associated with alcohol and substance abuse. Enhance awareness that it is a medically treatable condition, and provide in accordance with company rules assistance to employees in need of and willing to undertake such therapy. When loss of time results from accepting appropriate assistance, treat such absences in accordance with normal sickness provisions. If an employee refuses or discontinues treatment against advice, normal disciplinary procedure will be followed. Take a very serious view of possession, sale, distribution or consumption of alcohol or any other prohibited substance by an employee on company premises and deal with it in accordance with the requirement of national legislation and the company rules and regulations. Deny access and if needed eject from company premises, any visitor who in the opinion of the site management is in possession of or engaged in the sale or distribution of, or under the influence of alcohol, prohibited drug or substance. Demand full compliance to this policy from all on site contractors and subcontractors. Advise the employee using legally prescribed medicines (which may result in significant impairment) to consult the company doctors who will determine fitness for work with or without restrictions for work.

Use of Mobile Phone Policy Phone

This policy shall be applicable to all AkzoNobel Pakistan Limited (ICI DULUX) personnel, who use mobile phones, company or private-owned, on company business moreover this policy extends to cover contractors or their visitors who bring mobile phones into ICI DULUX Pakistan limited locations. The policy covers all principles for safe use of mobile phone: USE OF MOBILE PHONE IN VEHICLE The use of mobile phone while driving in a motorized vehicle is forbidden. Mobile phone shall only be operated by the driver of the vehicle, when the vehicle has been safely and legally parked. When driving alone and when mobile phone is carried in the vehicle, it must be switched off, or on silent mode, or incoming calls diverted to an answer/voice mail, call divert or secretary intercept function. When incoming call are switched to a divert function or on silent mode the mobile phone may be left switched on to provide an audible alert that an incoming call has been received. The driver can then choose an appropriate time to find a safe and legal place to park the vehicle and to retrieve the call. Under no circumstances shall the driver attempt to answer the call whilst the vehicle is being driven. Mobile phone use by the passengers is discouraged but may be used by the passengers in a vehicle with precautions to ensure that the mobile phone does not distract the driver. While attending a call, passengers should try the duration of call to bare minimum.

USE OF MOBILE PHONE IN OTHERS AREAS Mobile phones are not to be used in a prohibited areas e.g. on aero planes, hospitals or where its signals may affect instrumentation or electronic system. It is the responsibility of the user to ensure that it is safe to use mobile phone before doing so. Mobile phone are not to be taken into the manufacturing area including the solvent storages and other storage areas, restricted areas inside R&D laboratory and all external warehouses. The mobile phone can only be used in admin block offices. Others areas where there is restriction to use mobile shall be sign posted. Mobile phone must not be used in areas where it is likely to offend others, e.g. in seminar, conferences meetings quiet areas such as libraries etc. Mobile phone must not be used where its use can put the user at risk of injury, e.g. while ascending or descending the stairs/steps. This included donation of computers and furniture financial assistance, construction, renovation and maintenance of educational institutions and playgrounds in the communities close to the manufacturing sites of the Company. To create awareness about environmental problems, especially amongst children, the Company also sponsored WWF Nature Carnival. Company gives the head cap, mouth mask and gloves to the painters.

Result
After the completion of research we conclude our research result that AkzoNobel Pakistan Limited (ICI DULUX) and their employees follow their ethical policies. I suggest the HSE&S manager of AkzoNobel Pakistan Limited (ICI DULUX) that they also give the invitation card to the painters to attends the training programs related to paint and environment, common painting problems and their solution and painting techniques because the painter play a important rule in the use of paint product and they dont know the following things: How can I dispose of my unwanted paint? What is the difference between water-based and solvent-based products? What are Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)? Which brushes do I use for which job? What type of roller do I use? How do I paint radiators? How do I paint new plaster? Is there a right order to painting a room? I have removed wallpaper from my walls. How do I prepare them for painting?

Absent the knowledge of the above things the painters dont work efficiently and due to this reason the environment and his health affected.
