INDOOR, DRY TYPE TRANSFORMER 1.0 GENERAL 1.1 Scope 1.1.1 This specification is intended to cover design, engineering, procurement,

manufacture, inspection and testing at manufacturers works, packing, loading, forwarding, transport and delivery to site of Dry Type distribution transformer. 1.1.2 The specific requirements for each transformer and associated equipment shall be given on transformer data sheets. 1.1.3 1.1.4 1.1.5 Supplier shall furnish any special tools and tackles for installation and maintenance. Make of all accessories and hardware shall be subject to owners approval. All the equipments and accessories required for completeness of the equipment, whether specifically mentioned or not, but considered essential for satisfactory performance shall be included as a part of the offered equipment. 1.2 References 1.2.1 Transformer and associated equipment shall conform to relevant IS and IEC standards. Each publication shall be the latest revision and addendum in effect on the date this specification is issued for purchase unless noted otherwise. INDOOR, DRY TYPE TRANSFORMER 1.2.2 In case of any contradiction between various referred standards/specification/data sheets and statutory regulations, it shall be brought to the notice of Client for resolution, before taking a decision. Service Conditions 1.3.1 Expected lifetime of the Dry type transformer shall be 25 years. The transformer including all individual components/materials forming part of the system shall be suitable for continuous operation for periods of up to minimal 5 year without maintenance, inspection, replacement of any wearable parts or disassembly of the transformer, which require de-energizing. 1.3.2 Equipment shall be designed for a design ambient temperature of +45oC and an altitude not exceeding 1000 meters above mean sea level. Relative humidity of 92% shall be considered for design. 1.3.3 Equipment shall be suitable for operating satisfactorily outdoors in a saline atmosphere.

2.0

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS 2.1 General 2.1.1 Each transformer shall be designed for continuous operation at the specified rating, at the specified ambient temperature and site elevation conditions. Transformer ratings shall be as per the datasheets attached. 2.1.2 Transformer shall be of two winding, 3-phase, Dry type with ANAN cooling, suitable for indoor service as unit ratio transformers. Vector group shall be DYn11. 2.1.3 The system voltage and frequency shall be as per datasheets and variation in these will not be more than: Voltage: Frequency: 10% 5%

INDOOR, DRY TYPE TRANSFORMER 2.1.4 Temperature Rise Transformer shall conform to the requirements of temperature-rise specified in IS 11171, if not specified in data sheet. 2.1.5 Insulation Levels Insulation levels shall be in accordance with IS 11171 & IS 2026 (Part-III). 2.1.6 Terminal Markings, Tappings and Connections Terminal markings, tappings and connections shall be in accordance with IS 2026 (Part IV). 2.2 Rating 2.2.1 Transformer shall also be capable of delivering rated current at a voltage equal to 105 % of the rated voltage. 2.2.2 Unless otherwise stipulated, the transformer impedance values shall be as specified on the datasheets and within the tolerances allowed by IS 2026. Percentage tolerance allowed at extreme tap be shall as applicable to normal tap. 2.2.3 Performance of transformer under external short-circuit conditions shall be in accordance with IS 2026 (Part I). Transformers shall be designed to have short circuit rating of two (2) seconds as per IS:2026. 2.2.4 Transformer including all items such as buses and taps shall be designed and constructed to withstand the mechanical and thermal stresses produced by internal and external short-circuits having duration and a magnitude as specified on the datasheet. 2.3 Basic Construction 2.3.1 Transformer shall meet the latest stage of development reached in design, construction and material. The degree of protection of the enclosure shall be IP 43. 2.3.2 Base of the transformer shall have members that will permit skidding the transformer in the direction of either centreline. Provisions shall be made for pulling the transformer in these directions. 2.3.3 2.3.4 All indicating devices shall be easily read from base level. Transformer and accessories shall be so designed as to facilitate inspection cleaning and repairs. The requirement of Indian Electricity Rules shall be kept in view. 2.3.5 Cast iron shall not be used for any parts other than the large valve bodies.

INDOOR, DRY TYPE TRANSFORMER 2.3.6 All taper pins to be used in the mechanism shall be split type as per latest edition of IS:2393. 2.3.7 2.4 Core 2.4.1 Coils shall be wound with copper conductors. Core shall be made from high grade CRGO silicon steel (High B Grade type M-3 or superior grade CRGO steels of maximum 0.27 mm or low lamination thickness especially suitable for transformer core). The name of the core material must be mentioned in the bid. 2.4.2 Maximum magnetic flux density in any part of the core & yoke at the rated MVA, voltage & frequency shall not exceed 1.7 Tesla at principal tapping. 2.4.3 Design of magnetic circuit shall be such as to avoid static discharge development of short circuit paths within itself or to the earthing clamping structure and the production of flux components at right angles to the plane of the lamination which may cause local heating. 2.4.4 All joints shall be brazed / crimped considering the vibrations due to short circuits and load fluctuations. 2.5 Windings 2.5.1 The winding shall be of copper and shall be designed for full load current and to withstand the thermal and electromagnetic stresses arising due to the through fault current. 2.5.2 2.5.3 The winding insulation shall be Cast resin/Resin Impregnated/Varnish Impregnated. The winding insulation for transformer up to 100 KVA shall be class F with temperature rise restricted to class B and transformer above 100 KVA the winding insulation shall be class H with temperature rise restricted to class F. 2.5.4 The insulation material shall be non-hygroscopic, non- inflammable and selfextinguishing if ignited by direct flame or arc. No toxic or harmful gases shall form during heating and /or burning. The insulation materials shall be sufficiently resistant to ageing 2.5.5 The transformers shall be capable of withstanding the thermal and mechanical effects of a dead short circuit on any or all winding terminals with full voltage maintained on other windings as per IS. All mechanism should be rust and corrosion proof.

INDOOR, DRY TYPE TRANSFORMER 2.6 Enclosure 2.6.1 Transformer shall be housed in, freestanding enclosures of welded sheet steel frames with expanded metal screens of suitable size or louvres backed by wire-mesh. Transformer and the enclosure shall be suitably reinforced to prevent distortion during handling. 2.6.2 2.6.3 Base channels shall be provided with skids and pulling eyes to facilitate handling. Means for lifting the complete transformer shall be provided. The bearing surfaces of the lifting means shall be free of sharp edges. 2.6.4 Jacking facilities shall be located near the base of the transformer, and designed so that lifting members of the jack can be inserted. The dimensions, locations and clearances for jacking provisions shall be clearly shown on the manufacturer's drawings. 2.6.5 Suitable inspection cover shall be provided with lifting arrangements to give access to bushings, winding connections or testing the earth connections. 2.7 Transformer Protection 2.7.1 2.7.2 Transformer shall be provided with winding temperature protection. Protection equipment shall include potential free change-over contacts for alarm and trip purposes. Minimum 1 spare potential free change-over contacts of each protection and alarm shall be provided. Terminal & Marshalling Box 2.9.1 The primary and secondary side terminals shall be brought outside the tank through porcelain bushing in dust and weather proof terminal boxes, with links for tap changing where required and suitable heavy duty double compression type

INDOOR, DRY TYPE TRANSFORMER aluminium cable glands and cable lugs for receiving cables as indicated in data sheet. 2.9.2 The neutral point of the secondary winding shall be brought out separately and earthed to the transformer body through test link. 2.9.3 All connections shall be sized to carry the maximum continuous current, (including overloads) and also the prospective through-fault currents. Test certificates or calculations shall be available for all main cable connecting boxes to confirm short circuit withstand capability. 2.9.4 Marshalling box Marshalling box shall have the degree of protection of IP43, where all the instruments/electrical equipments (like CT etc.) used in the transformer to be wired up to the terminal blocks. For auxiliary cable termination undrilled gland plates shall be provided at the bottom of the marshalling box for all external cables. These gland plates shall be separate from those used for the cabling interconnecting the on-skid auxiliary equipment. One connection point for all auxiliary power requirements shall be provided for owner connection. Auxiliary supply voltage shall be as specified on the data sheets. All contacts for remote alarm functions shall be potential-free and separately wired to a terminal block and numbered sequentially. Indicating devices shall be visible with cabinet door closed. An internal light, controlled from a switch shall be mounted in the cabinet. All relays, switches, contactors, indicating lights and other devices shall be identified by nameplates. Internal labels shall be plastic laminate or equivalent, external labels shall be stainless steel, and have black letters on a white background engraved in the English language. Labels shall be secured by screws or rivets. Adhesive is not acceptable. Terminal blocks and each end of all wires shall be identified with legible permanent labels marked to agree with the manufacturer's wiring drawings. 2.10 Tap Changing Equipment (Off Load Tap Changer)

INDOOR, DRY TYPE TRANSFORMER The tap changer requirement (off Load) shall be as mentioned in the datasheet and with following characteristics: Tap changing gear shall be complete with tap position indicator, limit switch, and padlocking facility. Off-circuit tap changers shall be arranged for positive snap action contact changing, such that an intermediate position between two (2) taps will not occur. Robust mechanical stops shall be provided to prevent overrunning. Tap changer unit shall be mechanically interlocked so that all three phases will operate together. Tap changer shall be with interlock switch (to generate a trip command to switchgear, while changing tap online). Operation of tap changer shall not require additional tools and shall be safe and accessible for the operator from the ground level. 2.11 Bushing Insulators 2.11.1 Transformer shall be fitted with bushing insulators (mounted within terminal box) and 1.1 kV class bushing of suitable rating but without arcing horns. 2.11.2 The characteristics of the bushings shall be in accordance with IS: 2099 and IS: 3347. 2.12 Earthing 2.12.1 Safety earthing connections shall be provided to all metal parts and accessories. Connections by bolts only are not regarded as earthing connections. 2.12.2 Transformer skids shall be provided with 2 earth terminals, located on opposite (diagonal) sides of the transformer. Each earth connection shall consist of a brass or stainless steel M10 bolt (minimum) with nuts and washers. 2.12.3 Marshalling box & Terminal box shall be provided with separate earth terminals other than main body. 2.13 Finish 2.13.1 Transformer shall be cleaned, primed, and painted in accordance with Supplier's standard practice for the environmental conditions specified. Top coat finish shall be Supplier's standard unless otherwise specified in the data sheets. 2.13.2 Supplier shall supply paint, matching each colour used, for field touch-up after installation of the equipment. 2.14 Equipment Identification

INDOOR, DRY TYPE TRANSFORMER 2.14.1 A stainless steel rating and connection plate, in accordance with the applicable standards, shall be fixed to a non-removable part of the transformer. Owner's name and purchase order number shall be included on the rating plate or alternatively a separate plate with this information shall be added. 2.14.2 Transformer shall be identified by a permanently attached stainless steel nameplate showing the item number and service title assigned to it on the datasheet. This nameplate shall be mounted next to the rating and connection plate. 2.14.3 Nameplate as a minimum shall give all the information about the transformer as per IS 11171 / IS 2026 (Part I) viz: Kind of Transformer References (IS 2026 / IS 11171) Manufacturers name and serial number Year of manufacture Number of phases Rated kVA (for multi-winding transformers the rated kVA of each winding shall be given. The loading combinations shall also be indicated unless the rated power of one of the windings is the sum of the other windings.) 2.14.4 Dry-type transformers shall also be marked with ISI Certification Mark. 2.15 Transformer Preparation for shipment Unless otherwise specified, transformers shall be shipped as ready for connection.. Proper instructions shall be provided for assembly, filling and preparation for commissioning. 3.0 INSPECTION AND TESTS 3.1 Routine Test

INDOOR, DRY TYPE TRANSFORMER 3.1.1 Routine tests listed as per IS 11171 / IS 2026 (Part I) shall be conducted. Operation of the transformer, together with all ancillary equipment and protective devices, shall be carried out by the Supplier. Such tests may be witnessed at the discretion of the Owner. 3.1.2 The routine tests shall include the following: Measurement of winding resistance. Measurement of voltage ratio and check of voltage vector relationship. SPARE PARTS Supplier shall submit list of spares recommended by him for satisfactory operation of the transformer for first two (2) years and rate for each spare shall also be quoted. The owner will decide the actual quantity of spare parts to be ordered on the basis of the prices of the spare parts, quoted by the supplier.

DRAWINGS & DOCUMENTS The Supplier shall furnish drawings in accordance with SDDC form, enclosed with the Bid.
