CHAPTER IV
THE RESULT OF THE RESEARCH

A. Description of The Data
Data is a collection of facts such as value or measurement. It can be
numbers, words, and others. In this chapter, the writer describes the result of
the research after applied the instrument to the eighth grade of MTs Al-
Mukhtariyah Nagasaribu Padang Lawas Utara as the respondent. The result
describes as follows:
1. Teaching Speaking by Using Audio Lingual Method
From the score calculation, it is found that the highest score is 90
and the lowest score is 35. The averages score is 70, median is 69.37 and
mode is 69.50. Then, the score of mean, median and mode can be seen in
the following table :

After finding the mean, median and mode the writer analyze the
students achievement based on the indicators as follows:
a. The students ability at the eighth grade of MTs Al-Mukhtariyah
Nagasaribu Padang Lawas Utara identify the vocabulary is categorized
good. It is shown from the score of the students achievement
665/750 x 100 = 88.67
b. The students ability at eighth grade of MTs Al- Mukhtariyah

categorized enough. It is shown from the score of the students
achievement 500/750 x 100 = 66,67
c. The students ability at the eighth grade of MTs Al- Mukhtariyah
Nagasaribu Padang Lawas Utara identify the fluency is categorize
fail. Its shown from the score of students achievement, 585/1000 x

B. Hypothesis Testing
Based on the explanation before, it can be found that the result of
teaching speaking by using audio lingual method is better than without using
audio lingual method or there is a significant differential result between using
audio lingual method and conventional method.
After collecting the data, this research is going to test the hypothesis.
However, the testing hypothesis can be found after finding the score of each
variable in mean, median and mode. The data which is taken in accordance to
the participants score on the instrument test responses are tabulated as the
purpose of testing the hypothesis that is mentioned previously.
In order to get calculation score (t

= 7.16

Based on the calculation above, the value of the t
test
is 7.16. While the
samples are 40 students where N
1
= 25 students and N
2
= 15 students. So df
(N
1
+ N
2
) 2 = (25 + 15) 2 = 40 2 = 38. Because there is no df 38 in the
table, the writer takes the formula as follows. In this case, the writer takes on
95% significant level.

10x = 17 0.12
10x = 16.88
38

x = 1.68
t
table
= 1.68
Finally, the writer finds that the t
table
is 1.68 and t
test
is 7.16. The value
of t
test
is greater than the value of t
table
(7.16 > 1.68). It means that there is a
significant effectiveness of audio lingual method on the result of teaching
speaking at eighth grade student of MTs Al-Mukhtariyah Nagasaribu Padang
Lawas Utara.

C. Discussion
From the hypothesis testing, the mean of students who were taught by
using audio lingual method is 70. While the mean of students who were taught
without using audio lingual method is 51.67. Then, the value of t
test
is greater
than t
table
(7.16 > 1.68), so that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, it
means that There is a significant effective of audio lingual method on the
result of teaching speaking eighth grade student of MTs Al-Mukhtariyah
Nagasaribu Padang Lawas Utara.
Thus, it is relevant with the research that has been done by Anggraeni
(2007: 43) about audio lingual teaching as an alternative method in teaching
speaking. The result the Audio-lingual teaching method has a significant
effect on the first year students speaking skill of Junior High School at SMP
Negeri II Pemalangdue to the significant difference (p=0.05) between the pre-
test and post-test scores of the students speaking skills in which the post-
tests mean is significantly higher than those the pre-test.
39

From the above results, the teacher should use audio lingual method in
language teaching process to make students more interested and active
especially for speaking ability.
