CALL FOR ABSTRACTS REQUIREMENTS

The Locate14 Conference will feature a comprehensive plenary and oral presentation program. The Committee now welcomes submissions for abstracts for oral presentations.

ABSTRACT THEMES/TOPICS
Abstract submissions are to be made under the following themes/topics. Please choose the topic you feel best suits your presentation (If accepted, please be aware your abstract may be nominated by the Program Committee for a different topic to the one you have selected).

Location information is a fundamental part of our daily lives and is inextricably linked to the digital economy. Advances in mobile and cloud-based technologies are enabling location independence by connecting the digital world to physical location; connecting people to services regardless of where they are located. Changes to how government delivers services and industry does business will be especially significant in healthcare, insurance, agriculture and transport. Some examples are:

LOCATING THE DIGITAL ECONOMY

Public sector policies on open data, digital economy and spatial information Maximising the opportunity of spatial data Collaborative initiatives between the geospatial and telecommunications sectors Telecommunications and the National Broadband Network (NBN) Location-based innovation: augmented reality, the internet of things, the geoweb and geodesign Case studies from users of location capabilities (e.g. building and construction, energy and utilities, mining, real estate, finance, insurance, smart cities, agriculture and more) Smart cities and sustainable urban development

Advances in technology continue to create economic and sociological benefits to the industry and community. The introduction of a new idea, method, technology, process or application to overcome technical challenges and deliver outstanding outcomes is the focus of this stream. Some examples are:

INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES

Projects that show the innovative use of spatial technology to a traditional business challenge The role of social media (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.) and spatial information driving new business insights for better decisions Maximising the value of mobile technology more than just a phone New Data Capture Methods (including 3D, imagery, etc.) advances in spatial data capture techniques that not only create new data sets quickly but show that the cost of updating is not the burden it once was

A Smart City by definition is driven by the location and the interrelationship of people, services and transport. The movement is made more efficient between home and office while creating green, energy efficient buildings and linking people to information resources utilising an underlying spatial information framework. Some examples are:

For its national security, Australia draws primarily on its defence, intelligence, diplomatic, development, law enforcement and border security capabilities. Threats to national security involve not only conventional adversaries but also terrorists, narcotic cartels and cyber criminals. Utilising the most contemporary methods to resolve the challenges Australia faces today and into the future will be the focus of this stream. Some examples are:

Defence and Intelligence Cyber Security Emergency Management Border Protection Energy, Resources and Food Security

Governments and the private sector now see the value of spatial information as a corporate resource. The where factor is driving business outcomes and in turn influencing business value. This stream will highlight the use of spatial information in non-traditional applications including: retail, insurance, banking, asset management, transport and not-for-profit. Some examples are:

Surveying has certainly changes over the past decade and certainly promises to be an environment of continued review, change and renewal in the future. With the latest information on legislation briefs to new and exciting developments in the profession, this stream will pose the questions: What next? Where next? What will the role of surveyor look like in the future? Some examples are:

7. RESEARCH@LOCATE (ACADEMIC RESEARCH) **NOTE To submit under the peer reviewed, academic stream, you MUST lodge your abstract via a different website - http://asiera.org.au/rl14.html
Independently organised by academia for academia, this stream will provide a transparent, full-paper peer review process with careful selection of presentations and papers including openaccess proceedings with ISSN. This stream will provide a unique opportunity for engagement with the industry.

ABSTRACT FORMAT REQUIREMENTS


All abstracts MUST be submitted in accordance with these requirements. You will be required to confirm acceptance of these guidelines when submitting an abstract. Information required to submit an abstract is:

Abstract Information

Title MUST be in Initial Capital/Lower Case, not in CAPITALS Abstract text maximum of 1500 characters (approx. 300 words) including spaces. The abstract should have a clear focus and succinctly outlining your topic Abstracts must be complete and original Graphics cannot be included. Abstracts must be text only. Abstracts must be free of typographical and grammatical errors Standard abbreviations may be used for common terms only. Otherwise, any abbreviation should be given in brackets after the first full use of the word. Abbreviations may be used in the title, provided the name in full is outlined in the body of the abstract. Biography you must include maximum of 500 character (approx. 100 words) biography Topic You must select your preferred topic when you submit

Author Information o The presenting author must be entered as Author 1 (Presenting Author) o You can add additional authors and will need to provide complete email address, title and name for each author

REVIEW OF ABSTRACTS

The Program Committee will review all abstract submissions Abstracts that are unethical or incomplete will not be accepted for inclusion in the program Accepted abstracts will be published in the Conference Final Program Handbook. Submitting an abstract is taken as permission for publication.

GENERAL POLICIES & REQUIREMENTS


All abstracts must be original work and must include all relevant authors Abstracts must be written in English and free of typing/grammar errors so please proof-read your abstract. Accepted abstracts will be printed as submitted so its important you ensure you do not submit with any errors All submissions must be completed electronically via the online submission website. If you are unable to submit in this manner, please contact the Conference Organisers to discuss options. The Conference Organisers will not be held responsible for abstract submissions that are not received via the website or for any submission errors. If you do not receive an email confirmation when you submit your abstract please contact the Conference Organisers on locate14@absoluteevents.com.au If the abstract is accepted, the presenting author must register for the Conference and pay the registration fee in order to present at the Conference Only abstracts complying with the instructions and guidelines will be reviewed any abstracts received not complying with the instructions will be disqualified from being accepted

NOTIFICATION
Abstract submissions will close on Friday 10 January 2014 and you will be notified on Thursday 30 January of the outcome. All correspondence will be emailed to the address entered by you at the time of submission. Should you have co-authors also attending the Conference, please ensure you pass relevant correspondence on to them.
