What are you into? Whats your principle interest?

Describe it When the professor asked us to write what I am into, I feel little bit frustrated that I am not that into any of fields actually. I can say I like several things but its not enough to know certain discourse languages or terms. I just have some shallow knowledge. However, there is one field I can guarantee I know better - my major, English Education. Among the subjects I have been taking, I'm most interested in language acquisition and language learning theories. And this field falls into exactly one of community of practices. Numberless scholars have been putting efforts to find a single theory which explains how people acquire or learn a language regardless of its origin or nationality. Noam Chomsky would be one of the most well-known figures who invented the term "Universal Grammar (UG)" among these people. According to Chomsky, there are some patterns when people acquire their native languages regardless where you are from. He calls these patterns UG and this term is very common word we use in our field of study. Other than UG, there are also things like "learn" and "acquire". You might not notice and this seems trivial, but there is a huge difference between "learn" and "acquire". When you learn, you do it consciously, putting effort and concentration. However, when you acquire, you just get to know it naturally without effort or consciousness like learning your native language. You never learned it but you just acquired it like getting a dollar on the street by luck or accidently. By contrast, when you study another languages or foreign languages, we say you learn it. Therefore, we never use "acquire" the foreign language but we say "learn" the foreign language. Of course, there are more complicated and difficult terms other than these terms and I know that in the outside of our field, people just mix these two terms like I used to before. However,

through the education I have been received and my efforts to be a member of this group, I came to be regulated under the "authority" of this discourse community. Therefore, I think this filed can be a good example of community of practice. Mini reflection: Its little bit childlike but when the professor commented that this writing was impressive, I was glad. Also, I was surprised in some way that Chomsky and UG can be unusual words for others although these terms are just everyday words for me. It was a good start and preparation to write the ethnography for me.
