Anchor: And the country has borne the brunt of countless typhoons over the years which left hundreds dead and thousands homeless. In this report Patricia De Leon recalls the deadliest storms in the countrys recent history. Patricia De Leon: Although the weather bureau PAGASA does not have a weather disturbance classification labeled as super typhoon the Philippines has had its share of monster typhoons as formidable as Yolanda. The weather bureau records show that in a span of 62 years from 1947 to 2009, Filipinos had borne the brunt of about 20 super typhoons like calamities. Forecaster Jori Loiz says that the strongest typhoon on record was Reming, which brought havoc back in 2006. Reming packed wind of 320kph as it traversed Virac, Catanduanes. So isa sa mga destructive hindi lang pinakamalakas itong si Reming kundi destructive ahh.. typhoon Patricia De Leon: Reming left 734 people dead and 5 Billion pesos damage to infrastructure, properties and crops. The second strongest typhoon was Sening which entered PAR in October 1970 it packed winds of up to 275kph. 768 persons were killed and damage to property reached almost 2Billion pesos, coming in third is Rosing in October 1995 which carried winds of up to 260kph, it killed 936 people and almost 11 Billion pesos worth of properties were laid to waste . But 13 years ago also in November another super typhoon hit the country which packed almost the same strength as typhoon Yolanda, it was named typhoon Ruping with winds of up to 220kph, 748 fatalities were recorded and damage to property was pegged at almost 11 Billion pesos. Forecaster Jori Loiz: Si Ruping 1990 siya nabuo tapos also the same month katulad kay Yolanda at ang tinatrack nitong si Yolanda ay almost the same dito kay Ruping Patricia De Leon: Loiz says, typhoons usually make land fall in Visayas and Mindanao during the last quarter of the year. Yolanda is by far the strongest typhoon to hit the country this year. The U.S. National Oceanic and atmospheric administration even says, Yolanda or its international name Haiyan is the most powerful typhoon to hit the world in 2013 and the not so good news according to Lois is 2 to 3 more typhoons are expected to enter the country before the year ends, typhoons which can be as powerful or even stronger than Yolanda.
