Area system and technical system communication General Specs needed when not yet available Level of definition of the source information? Technical choice risk evaluation (and responsibility)? Reliability analysis?
How to go ahead now?
Paolo Michelato, RDR Meeting, FNAL , Feb. 14th 2006.

Possible strategy: Step_1 Address a questionnaire to each area system (~March?)

[e- source, e+ source, DR, RTML, Main Linac, BDS]

Beam line layout with aperture (Optics) SR (Synchrotron Radiation) power distribution along beam pipe Required pressures Required materials, if necessary

Brief specification was already supplied from BDS.

Paolo Michelato, RDR Meeting, FNAL , Feb. 14th 2006.

Step_2 Sum up number of necessary components (items) (~June?)

Pumps (main and rough pumping) and power supply Gauges (Total and partial pressure) and power supply Bellows chambers, gate valves, pipe Manifolds, gaskets, bolts, nuts In situ. baking system(?) (power supply) Vacuum switch etc. for safety Cables with connectors Man power (?) Pre assembly stock area (room) Pre-baking system Coating system (?) Installation?

Step_3

Select components (~June)

Fix specification for each components

Cost estimation
First rough estimation (~July?) Detailed estimation (~Oct?) Based on the exp. of NLC, CEBAF, TTF. Etc.

Fix writers of RDR (~##?)

Questions and Comments_1

How about special components (kicker, collimator, window, Beam dump, BPM chamber etc.)? Are they included in the vacuum system? For 1st stage(500 GeV) or 2nd stage (1 TeV)? Drawing is required? Summarized by Excel file or something like that?
Paolo Michelato, RDR Meeting, FNAL , Feb. 14th 2006.

Questions and Comments_2

Who calculates impedances of vacuum components, such as pumping ports, transition parts of beam pipe cross section and photon crotches? Specify the maximum pressures and the average ones. Specify the tolerable baking temperature.

Cryogenics
Use more conservative estimates of static heat leak (based on TTF measurements) than in TDR. Debating the additions of cryo-segments every 560 m for shortening regions that are warmed up for repair work (less leaks, tenfold faster cool-down)
At minimum want such segments to isolate insulating vacuum sections. Also discussing use of these segments for instrumentation and MPS add warm section with outer vacuum enclosure. Main push back is cost (~ 1% of Linac), contamination issues and increased vulnerability to insulating and beam pipe vacuum failures.

Have new layout of cyroplants based on cryogenic demand from all areas.
