Global Warming - Global warming is the rising of average temperature of the Earths atmosphere due to greenhouse gases.

Greenhouse gases are gases that trap heat in the atmosphere. The greenhouse effect consists of gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and water vapor insulating the Earths surface and helping it maintain warm temperatures. However since there is so much carbon dioxide filling the air the Earth atmosphere absorbs almost all of the suns emission. When the sun heats the earth the atmosphere is supposed to radiate most of the heat but instead it ta es all the warmth and uses it to power the Earth causing a buildup of green house gases.... !tags" Global Warming, # Global Warming Global warming is the warming near the earth$s surface that results when the earth$s atmosphere traps the sun$s heat. The earth is getting warmer. The changes are small, so far, but the% are expected to grow and speed up. Within the next fift% to one hundred %ears, the earth ma% be hotter than it has been in the past million %ears. &s oceans warm and glaciers melt, land and cities along coasts ma% be flooded. Heat and drought ma% cause forests to die and food crops to fail. Global warming will affect weather ever%where, plants and animals ever%where, people ever%where' humans are warming the earth$s atmosphere b% burning fuels, cutting down forest, and b% ta ing part in other activities that release certain heat trapping gases into the air. (ne ma)or cause of global warming is the use of fossil fuels. *ossil fuels li e coal, oil, and natural gas that were formed from the remains of plant material deposited during the earth$s carboniferous period. We have nown for onl% a few thousand %ears that coal, oil, and natural gas can be burned to provide energ%. +t was not until the mid-,-..s, however, that we began to burn ver% large /uantities of these fossil fuels. The worldwide consumption of fossil fuel has increased dramaticall%. Willhoite3 4limate changes occur in our earth$s atmosphere due to a buildup of greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases can occur naturall% as well as a result of human activities. 01elissa 2hillips3. 2roblems can occur when higher concentrations of greenhouse gases are present in our atmosphere because the% have enhanced our earth$s heat trapping capabilit%. 0&nne 8ector3. There are man% misconceptions about global warming. 6ome believe that pollution causes global warming, but the fact is global warming is the result of burning fossil fuels, coal, and oil that release carbon dioxide. &nother misconception is nuclear power causes climate change. 9uclear power actuall% reduces emissions of carbon dioxide when used in place of coal. 6ome believe that global warming means that it (ur planets atmosphere is warming up rapidl%. 8esearchers are certain that emissions from human activities have caused this unnatural change. :sing the latest computer models, their forecast are worrisome of what might global warming mean to our planet. *ortunatel%, ever%one can be a part of the solution in slowing down global waming. +t re/uires strong commitment from big corporations down to ever%da% people.
