Anna University is divided into four different universities namely Anna university-Chennai, Anna University-Coimbatore, Anna
University-Trichirappalli and Anna University-Trinelveli. Anna University-Coimbatore is an affiliating type of university by an act
of section of 54 of the Anna University, Coimbatore act, 2006. (Tamil Nadu Act No. 42 of 2006). The Government of Tamil Nadu
established the Anna University – Coimbatore on 01-02-2007.
Anna University Coimbatore has 3 Government Engineering colleges, 2 Government Aided Engineering Colleges and 74 Self
Financing Engineering Colleges under its fold. About 75000 aspiring engineering graduates study in these institutions. 80% of
the Students come from rural background.
It offers higher education in Engineering, Technology, Management and allied Sciences relevant to the current and projected
needs of the society. Besides promoting research and disseminating knowledge gained there from, it fosters cooperation
between the academic and industrial communities.
A candidate may be permitted to pursue research leading to M.Tech. (By Research)/ Ph.D. in any one of the following
institutions subject to satisfying conditions of eligibility (as per the norms of Anna University Coimbatore), availability of
supervisor and necessary facilities.
• The departments of the University / affiliated Colleges.
• All India Research Institutions and Regional Research Institutions/Collaborative Research Institutions duly recognized by
the University or UGC / Approved Research Centres of this University (located anywhere in India/Abroad) for conducting
research.
• Well equipped Research and Development departments of public and private sector undertakings recognized from time to
time by this University as having necessary facilities for prosecuting research at an advanced level.
• All approved Institutions of Statutory bodies of Govt. of India or a registered Societies involved in the process of
disseminating advanced knowledge and Research / Professional bodies etc.
• The research scholars of the University Departments may also be permitted to conduct their research in foreign
universities and institutions / industries for a maximum of up to one year if there is a proper memorandum of
understanding between such institutions and this university.
• Any industry / institution / corporate entity / MNCs having sufficient infrastructure to conduct research within India or
Abroad.
