Module Objective Task :

You are given RM5 per day. Use MS Excel application to calculate your daily expenses, balance of your pocket money, monthly savings and average expenses per day. Launch the MS Excel application. Key in data on daily expenses as shown in Figure 1. Adjust column size to fit the text.

Click on cell B4, to change the number into two place value click the Increase Decimal once as shown in Figure 2.

1.1.2.1 Use addition operation to calculate the total expenses. Steps to do addition: Step 1 : Click on cell B7. Click on the formula bar to start the calculation, beginning with = as shown in Figure 4.

Figure 4 Step 2 : Click on cell B4. Type + then click on cell B5. Type + then click on cell B6. The formula bar will display =B4+B5+B6 as shown in Figure 5. Press Enter. The sum of the values for the cells added will be displayed in cell B7.

Repeat the same steps to calculate the expenses for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday according to the respective cell. Save your file in your personal folder and exit the MS Excel application.

Note: Addition can also be done by using the from the shortcut menu. Try it.

1.1.2.2 Use subtraction operation to calculate balance of pocket money. Steps to do subtraction: Step 1 Step 2 : : Open the file from the previous exercise. Click on cell A4. Click Insert then click Rows to insert a row above the cell.

Click cell A4 and type in Pocket Money. Then, key in the 5 ringgit, into cells B4 to F4.

Type Balance into cell A9. Then, click on cell B9. Type = in the formula bar. Next, click on B4. Type - and click on B8. Press Enter. The balance has been calculated as shown in Figure 9.

1.1.2.3 Use multiplication operator to calculate expenses in a month. Steps to do multiplication: In MS Excel the symbol for multiplication is Step 1 Step 2 : :

Open the file from previous exercise. Type Total Weekly Expenses in cell A11. Adjust the column size. Click cell B11 then calculate the total weekly savings by using addition operation to add the values in cells B8, C8, D8, E8 and F8. The formula should be =B8+C8+D8+E8+F8. Refer to Figure 10.

To calculate the total monthly expenses, the total weekly expenses have to be multiplied by 4 weeks. Click on B12. Type = then click on B11. Type *4 then press Enter on your keyboard. The total has been calculated as shown in Figure 12.

Use division to calculate average expenses per day. Steps to do division: In MS Excel the symbol of division is /. Step 1 Step 2 : : Open the file from previous lesson. Type Average Expenses Per Day in cell A14.

Figure 13 Step 3 : To calculate the average expenses per day, we have to divide the total weekly expenses by 5 days. Click on B14. Type = in the formula bar and click on B11. Then type /5. The formula should appear as =B11/5. You should get a display as shown in Figure 14.

Step 4

Another way to calculate the average expenses per day is by dividing the total monthly expenses by the number of schooling days, which is 20 days. Click on B14. Delete the content. Type = and click on B12. Then type /20. The formula should appear as =B12/20. You should get a display as shown in Figure 15.
