Section [ 45 marks] Answer all questions in this section 1. A man agrees to pay RM300 per month for 4 years to pay off a car loan. If interest of 12% per annum is charged monthly, a) how much did the car originally cost ? b) How much interest was paid ? [ 3 marks ] [ 2 marks ]

2. The average cost function and demand function, in ringgit, of a company that manufactures printers are and D(x) = 20 0.001x respectively, where x is the number of printers manufactured. Find, a) the cost function [ 1 mark ]

b) the maximum revenue and the number of printers sold to achieve this, [ 5 marks ] c) the maximum profit, [ 5 marks ]

3. Given maximise f = 3x + 3y Subject to the constraints : x + 2y 3x + 2y , ,

a) find the maximum value using the graphical method.

[ 5 marks ]

b) what is the effect on optimal solution if the objective function is changed to f = x + 2y ? [ 2 marks ]

4. A product has a constant demand of 100 units per week. The cost to place an order for inventory replenishment is RM1000. The holding cost for a unit in inventory is RM0.40 per week. No shortage are allowed. Find a) the optimum economic lot size b) the cycle time c) the yearly inventory cost [ 2 marks] [ 2 marks] [ 3 marks]

5. The following table gives the information for a simple project: Activity A B C D E F G Preceding Activities A A B, C B A D, E, F Duration ( 1 days ) 7 3 2 4 5 3 6

a) Draw an AOA network diagram for the project,

[ 3 marks]

b) List the possible paths of the project and their responding total duration Hence, determine the critical path. c) How many days that activity C can be delayed without affecting the minimum completion time of the project? [ 2 marks] [ 3 marks]

6. A two person zero sum game is defined by the pay-off matrix : Player Q strategy I Player P II III I -1 5 3 II 0 4 2 III 4 8 5

a) Find the saddle point in the pay-off matrix and state the value of the game. Which player has the advantage ? [ 5 marks] b) State the optimum strategy for each player. [ 2 marks]

Section B [ 15 marks ] Answer any one question in this section. 7. A jean manufacturer makes three types of jeans, each of which goes through three manufacturing phases cutting, sewing, and finishing. The number of minutes each type of product requires in each of the three phases is given below :

Jean I II III

cutting 8 12 18

Sewing 12 18 24

Finishing 4 8 12

There are

hours of cutting time , 100 hours of sewing time, and

hours of

finishing time each day. The company can sell all the jeans it makes and make a profit of RM3 each Jean I, RM4.50 on each Jean II, and RM6 on each Jean III. The manufacturer intends to maximise the total profit each day.

a) Formulate the above problem as a linear programming problem.

[ 5 marks ]

bI By using simplex method, determine the number of jeans in each category it should make each day to maximise its profit. [ 10 marks ]

8. a) Reduce the following pay-off matrix using dominance arguments. Hence, determine the optimal strategy for each player. Chua strategy I Rahman II III I -3 1 0 II 1 2 1 III 2 1 -2 [ 4 marks ] b) The table show a pay-off matrix for player A and player B in a zero-sum game. Player B strategy I II Player A III IV I -2 3 -3 5 II 0 -1 2 -4

Use a grahical method to determine the optimal mixed strategy for each player. Then, find the expected value of the game. [ 11 marks ]
