Materials and Resources: (Teacher and student needs)

Supplies:

Different Bear themed books for each group. Big construction paper with four boxes drawn on them. The students Journals for them to write sentences on. Premade example on prezi of a sequence of a bear book.

Technology Use
I will be using my Promethean board as part of my instruction to the students. I will have a Prezi already done so my students can be walked through how to make a sequence of a book. We will talk about how to identify important parts of he book and illustrate them in order.

Set: (Initiating Activity/Questions)

Opening discussion: We have been learning about Bears throughout this lesson and today we will finish up our lesson. What have we learned about Bears? What are some of the facts that we know? Give silly examples of things bears may do in fiction stories. Ask the students if Bears really can do those silly things? After a short discussion explain what we will be doing in

todays lesson. Give out partners and the books they will be reading. Once they have gotten with their partners give them the three questions they will answer once they are done reading. What happened in the book? What was the main problem in the book? What did you learn from the book? After they have completed their partner work and we are sitting down for closing group I will review over the lesson about bears.

Instruction: (Lesson Presentation Steps)

Before I start my lesson I will need to have all of the supplies and my Prezi ready to go. When I start my lesson I will discuss with my students how we have been learning about Bears throughout this unit. Question: Tell me some things you know about Bears? What have we learned? After a short discussion I will explain what we will be doing for this lesson. Today we will start by reading with a partner. Each Partner group will get a different Bear book. You will take turns reading a page. If you get stuck on a word you may ask your partner to help you out. If you still can not figure the word out please raise your hand and I will come by and help you sound it out. After reading your book I want your partner and you to brainstorm. I want you to talk about the book. Answer these questions about the book with your partner. What happened in the book? What was the main problem in the book? What did you learn from the book? After all of the groups are done reading and discussing we will all come back on the carpet. I will then explain that we will be making a sequence chart. I will have my Prezi ready to show them on the book Bear Snores On. I will only highlight four areas of the book. I will explain that each group will make their own by drawing pictures to illustrate the story and what came first, second, third, and fourth. They will only have a short amount of time to draw their pictures. Each partner is to draw two pictures. After they are done with their sequence chart they are to get their Journals and write two sentences about their favorite part of the book. They can use one of the introductory sentences : I like when.... or My favorite part was.... In the closing of this lesson each group will be able to come up and present their sequence chart and read their sentences about their favorite part. They will tell the whole class what their book in tells and what they had learned from the book. Reading their sentences will help them gain understanding of their own writing and creative spelling. I will close the group with a small

discussion on their presentations and summarizing what we have learned about bears throughout this unit.

Closure
In my closure I will be able to assess my students and if they were able to perform the standards and goals I had set for them. We will close with a group discussion and reflection of the whole bear unit. We will talk about what they have learned about bears and even discuss fiction and nonfiction some. I will ask them about their partner reading and group work. I will also be able to assess their comprehension and writing abilities through their Journal. I will ask the review questions such as: Tell me some things you know about bears. What have we learned? With my students responses and reviewing their work I will be able to see if my students really understand the goals or not.

Cross-curriculum Connections
This lesson crosses curriculum by teaching students how to work in partners. Also, they are learning skills that they will need in every subject. (Writing, reading, analyzing) They will be able to use these skills in almost any other subject area.

Differentiated Instruction
In my classroom I do not have any ELL's or IEP's I will differentiate my instruction by:

partnering student together with different reading levels. assigning the appropriate reading level book to each group. allowing student to use the sentence strips with I like when.... or My favorite part was.... to get their sentence started. requiring my higher level students to create more then one sentence when reflecting on their books.

Assignment
Group Work: To create a sequence chart using illustrations. Seat Work: Write one- two sentences in your journal telling me about your favorite part.
