Kevin Brady Jones Math 1020 MWF 12-12:50 Project part 1 For our first part of our project

for Math 1020 we are to write about questions that we are given. The questions deal with how we solve different math equations. I will write about each question and how I came to my answer to the equation and the steps needed to come to that solution. In the first three questions we are to interpret the percent strength of the given percent. In question one it tells us to interpret the percent strength 37.5%. In this we know that when given a percent we know that 1% is equal to this formula, we now convert 37.5% to the . Given

which would give us

. In question two we are to interpret the percent strength 8.5%. Using the same formula in the previous question we get . In question

number three we are given a similar question and we are to interpret the percent strength 12.5%. Again, we will use the same formula and get .

In the question we are to describe how we mix 37.5% and 8.5% solutions to get 1500mL of a 12.5% solution. In this question we use the formula of F=V use this formula when S F=1500ml and we

. Given this formula we set up the equation and get

and this gives us the answer of 206.9mL. In question number five

we are finding how many mL of the 37.5% solution we use in the previous question. Well in the previous equation we got the answer of 206.9mL of the strong solution (37.5%) and then we would add 1,293.1mL of the weak solution (8.5%). This would

get us to the 1,500 mL with a percent strength of 12.5%. In question number six we are solving the question of how many grams of pure drug there are in the above volume. We know we have a percent strength of 37.5% and have 206.9mL of this strength. To set this up we need to convert the % strength into gs. So we set the equation . When we round to the nearest tenth it gives us about 77.6g

of pure drug. In question number seven we are finding how many mL of the 8.5% solution we will use. To get the answer we simply subtract 206.9mL from the total mL amount of 1500mL. Given the equation we get the answer of 1,293.1mL of the 8.5% solution. In the next question we are asked to give the amount of grams of pure drug there are in the above volume. To get the answer to this equation we simply convert 8.5% solution into grams of pure drug. We use the formula we used in previous equations to set up the problem. we solve the equation

and get about 109.9g of pure drug when we round to the nearest tenth. In question number nine we are to find the sum of the number of grams of pure drug for 37.5% solutions and 8.5% solution from questions six and eight. We know in question number six we got 77.6g of pure drug and in question number eight we got 109.9g of pure drug. So to get the sum of these we simply add them together to get 187.5g of pure drug. Finally in question number ten we are to compute directly the number of grams of pure drug there are in 1500mL of the 12.5% solution. To set this up we use the previous formula to convert the 12.5% into grams of pure drug then plug in the 1500mL into the equation giving us of pure drug. . When we solve we get 187.5g
