Which Ad Quenches Your Thirst? Advertisements are everywhere in our world billboards, magazines, television, and much more. They persuade our lives more than we realize. What many people do not understand is how to analyze what message the advertiser is trying to send. This is something that takes time and for you to extend your imagination. If one analyzes an advertisements they may find that they may differ in some ways, but they are similar in other respects. There are four advertisements that will be analyzed in this paper. They are a Coke, Diet Pepsi, Gatorade, and Bud Light. Taking a look at all four of these ads one should know by the end of the paper what some of the purpose or thought is behind the ad. In the Coke advertisement the first thing that one may see is the light sky background

PM Your word forms here make it seem as though there are similarities and differences within a single advertisement.

with all the cokes meeting in the middle. Then as the reader extends their vision they can see the different arms and the different ethnicities. In closer consideration one may notice the diverse sleeves that the people are wearing. It seems that one sleeve depicts a stereotypical African culture, then another with a city in the background. This represents the coming together of different races or countries because of Coke. Coke gives all the countries something in common

to share. In the Gatorade ad which is similar to the Coke advertisement, if one takes a glance at the Gatorade ad they can see the different skin colors of the athletes in the picture. This shows that there is diversity of some sort in the picture. In another one of the advertisements the Diet

Pepsi ad, it is just a single white female drinking out of a Diet Pepsi can. This shows no kind of connection with other countries and cultures unlike the Coke ad. One of the main reasons why this advertisement the Coke advertisement appeals to a diverse range of people is because of the diversity it shows. There are many other aspects as well in the Coke ad, like the text that represents the multiple countries in the ad. The text reads To the community, to the country, to the planet. Celebrate together. That phrase automatically shows the reader what this advertisement is trying to portray. As well in the Gatorade ad the text shows how diversity is portrayed Gatorade fuels the UAAP (University Athletic Association of the Philippines) and the NCAA teams. That statement informs the viewer that this ad is meant for people of different countries, because the UAAP is located in the Philippines, not just one specifically. Similar to the Coke advertisement, if one takes a glance at the Gatorade ad they can see the different skin colors of the athletes in the picture. This shows that there is diversity of some sort in the picture. The text in the ad reads, Gatorade fuels the UAAP (University Athletic Association of the Philippines) and the NCAA teams. That statement informs the viewer that this ad is meant for people of different countries, because the UAAP is located in the Philippines, not just one specifically as well. Every advertisement is pointed to a certain audience, the advertiser just does not randomly throw an advertisement out to the public without a purpose. Every advertisement has

very good method to sell your product by widening the audience range it reaches. It is understood that the Diet Pepsi and Gatorade ads were pointed to specific audiences as well. Advertisements can make a viewer believe something that they are not, which can be a

very bad thing. Due to the simplicity of Coke there is no way to deceive viewers about their product. However, Diet Pepsi ad the girl is young skinny and beautiful, this is sending a message to the more overweight people saying if they drink this drink they too can be young and beautiful. Likewise, the Bud Light ad consist of beautiful people having a large amount of fun and laughing. This can persuade the viewer to believe that if they drink Bud Light it can make them feel young and beautiful while having fun. Both the Pepsi and Budlight advertisement

both use beauty in their advertisements. If you look at both of these ads the people in them are young and beautiful and appear to be happy. This makes viewers believe that if they consume these products they too can be like the people in the ad. Gatorade is of course directed to people with an active lifestyle, particularly athletes. It is apparent in the ad that all of the basketball players are boys who play basketball in college. The ad makes it very apparent that they too want to reach all young athletes. They send this message through the text and pictures that they use in the ad. They also want the viewer to believe that by drinking this sports drink that it will help them get the strength that they need to become a college athlete. As one may hear a lot

through their life looks can be deceiving. Just because someone is dunking a basketball, or has the perfect model figure in a advertisement does not mean that you will if you buy or consume their products.

Advertisements draw attention through color and what the colors highlight in on the photo of the ad. In the Coke ad the Coke bottles them selves are very well defined. This tells the

viewer that the advertiser wants them to know without a doubt what this ad is about. In the Diet Pepsi the readers my eye catches the big hat that the girl is wearing, which draws their attention

to her beauty and drinking from the straw. Both of these advertisements are very well lit with light colors. This gives the reader a happy feeling about the product and makes them want to look at the ad more closely. As one can see an advertiser can use color to their advantage. They

can point the viewers eyes where they want them to go with out them even knowing it, making them look at their product. As stated before all of these advertisements send different messages to a variety of audiences. Each advertiser tries to sell their product with motives and incentives behind it.

Whether that be trying to convince you that it can change you or just make you feel happy. What ever motive is behind a certain ad it typically works, we all get drawn in by advertisements. The main focus of this paper was the Coke ad, it was the most thought through and well created. It

shows color and draws you attention and is directed towards everyone without falsely convincing you that it can change your appearance or life happiness in general. This will make all viewers want to buy their product al over the world.

Beth Caruso 11/11/13, 5:08

PM Overall, I can see that your writing and word choice has greatly improved since your last paper. As you work to give more detail in your writing, be sure you are also working to develop conclusions to your ideas/ paragraphs. Although you do wrap up your paragraphs, they seem to come to more of a general conclusion. Think about what, specifically, you are saying about this advertisement. What do you need the reader to understand as they move away from this idea?
