Rice production is the key in agriculture development. Demand for rice production still rises both domestically and globally Natural conditions remain favorable and farmers derive rich

experiences from rice cultivation

High yielda due to intensive practice, new varieties and technology advances

By joining WTO, Vietnam will be treated equally when

exporting agricultural products to all markets

Industrialization and urbanization will reduce rice lands Climate change impact, specially in the Delta region So many varieties so the quality is not consistent Small scale rice production raises the production cost

High loss percentage after harvesting or due to low processing

technology Low profits from rice cultivation compared to other crops

High technical barriers by importing countries

Potential competition from newcomers

2.1.1 Large area field

2.1.2 Rice Temporary Storage

Policy on management and use of rice land (3.8 million ha to 2020) Policy supporting producers (ensures benefit for rice farmers at minimum 30%

vs. production cost)

Priority on investments on development of infrastructure, science and technology and industry of food processing and preserving Mitigation of and adaptation to climate change impacts Government to encourage greater rice exports Development of potential international markets for rice Support of enterprise to build storage systems to keep all paddy rice at harvest

Encourage domestic producers to improve rice quality, postharvest technology

and processing and storage systems (postharvest losses = 10%) Improve rice supply chain: farmers and rice traders linkage systems
