6 Known Issues and tips in this Version
No. Description, Analysis and Avoidance
0001276 Description: Some access terminals (e.g. Samsung access terminals with USB data connect line,
Moto Z1) might cause a crash or deadlock of Windows Vista, especially when using dual-core
computer.
Analysis: Access terminal drivers are incompatible with dual core computer.
Avoidable measures:
1) Enable only one process. See FAQ17;
2) Use single core computers;
3) Use access terminals which are compatible with dual core computer.

- 9 -
0000143 Description: When test using PNScanner, the series connection may lost by accident. if that happens,
CNT1 will stop saving the data, and after reconnected, CNT1 will not resume the saving automatically.
Analysis: CNT1 will not detect the PNScanners connection status automatically.
Avoidable measures: After reconnect the series port, stop the PNScanner test manually and start it
again, data saving will continue.
0000141 Description: When using Clear Type on XP System, route map is speckled.
Analysis: The drive-test route in the Route Map window is made up of letters. Due to the fact that XP
adds white margin and other transition colors to letters when using Clear Type, it is possible that,
when the letters overlap with each other, the Route Map is speckled.
Avoidable measures:
1. Close Clear Type of XP system. Method: Control panelDisplayAppearanceEffects,
change Clear Type to Standard below the Using the following method to smooth edges
of screen fonts Combo Box. After this, all effects of fonts will be affected in this system.
2. Open Map Theme dialog box in the Map window, uncheck Use Raw Type Output Route
Text (Default state is checked.). When drawing route map, test software will try to skip the
process of operating system. It may not work in some computers and the representation is
that it can not display the whole route map.

7 FAQ
1. Q: Why a terminal is identified as Unknown Terminal sometimes?
A: If the detected model of the terminal is Unknown Terminalit means that the test software is unable
to obtain the model of the terminal. There may be communication fault or facility malfunction. In this
case, Please do as follows:
1) If the detected model of the terminal was right formerly and is identified as Unknown Terminal
currently, it is usually because there is something wrong with the connection from the terminal to
computer. Please reconnect the terminal and detect again. Keep trying until the terminal is
identified correctly.
2) The models of some particular custom-built terminals (usually fixed station) are not available. In
this case, you can perform test and disregard the terminal is identified as Unknown Terminal.
2. Q: Why some air interface signalings lost sometimes?
A: For 1X or DO terminal, most of the diagnostic messages (including air interface signalings and
diversified wireless parameters) are reported to computer by terminal via DM port. And all the
diagnostic messages have the same PRI (there is no special treatment for air interface signalings). When
the messages transfer rate overstep the serial port bandwidth, part of signalings may be dropped.
It can be improved effectively by optimizing the Logging Mask settings. ZXPOS CNT1 provides some
typical Logging Mask settings schemes in Logging Mask Configuration window. Making use of these
schemes, the amount of dropped air interface signalings can be reduced largely.

- 10 -
In addition, different terminals have different possibilities for dropping signalings. For instance, the
actual bandwidth of KYOCERA 2235 is 1/3 of the standard bandwidth requested by Qualcomm, hence
such terminals drop air interface signalings badly. If you dont configure the Logging Mask particularly,
the strongest Ec/Io data and the layer 3 messages may be unavailable. So we dont recommend you
these terminals for network test.
3. Q: Why may the Strongest Ec/Io not show when using KYOCERA in drive test?
A: The reason is that the actual bandwidth of KYOCERA 2235 is 1/3 of the standard bandwidth
requested by Qualcomm because of its design. And such terminal may drop messages badly. We
recommend optimizing the Logging Mask settings before drive test. Please refer to question 2.
4. Q: Why does the GPS status keep switching between Fix and Not Fix when using some minitype GPS
receiver with USB port(eg. HOLUX)?
A: Because the GPS of these types is easy to lose electric power, and usually need some time to
initialize data. And it will send inaccurate position data to the test software during initializing. It brings
on the status displayed in the test software switching repeatly. To deal with this problem, please turn on
the GPS and put it outdoor for a period of time. This phenomenon will disappear when the initialization
finish. You may encounter this problem when using a GPS leave unused for a long time.
5. Q: How to use the Y-line of SAMSUNG
A: Double-port-line(Y-line) is the special test line of SAMSUNG for data service and its shape is Y.
Double-port-line has three ports, they are mobile phone port, USB port and RS-232 serial port and
double-port points to the last two. USB port offers data channel (called MODEM port) for wireless
network of mobile phone. Serial port is test port (called DM port) through which test software collects
diversified test data.
Before using Y-line, you should install driver and set parameters of mobile phone. You can download
driver from network and the version of the driver must be 3.40.0.2700 or higher. Otherwise it is not
stable and may bring the computer to blue screen when testing. The steps of setting parameters of
mobile phone (take the SAMSUNG X199 for instance) are as follows:
1) Press M and 8 to enter the Setup menu, and press * , then you will see the Field Serv dialog box,
input 123580 and enter the Debug menu;
2) Choose the fourth item Port Map and enter Port menu;
3) Choose the second item UART DM/DL;
4) The mobile phone resets because parameters are changed. After that, it is finish to set the mobile
phone.
If you test data service using Y-line, do not test the MODEM port of USB. Because to SAMSUNG
mobile phone, it is automatic to change MODEM to DM that helps test software detect it successfully.
But MODEM port disappears and DM port shuts automatically (it means that the double-port-line is
changed to single port-line) after MODEM port is changed to DM port. And you cannot do data service
test any more. If MODEM port is changed to DM port because of the mistake of operation, you can
reset the mobile phone and anything will be ok.

- 11 -
6. Q: Sometimes bit errors may occur and result in test distortion when a long line is used by a Qualcomm
Mobile Phone. How to judge and deal with it?
A: Poor shielding performance of the long line may bring on high bit error rate. And there may be
symptoms as described below:
1) CRC errors keep being reported in Communication Statistics window;
2) The detected model of QCP-860 or QCP-1960 mobile phone is Qualcomm Mobile Phone;
3) No Layer 3 message is reported though it has been set in the Logging Mask;
4) No data displayed in the Strongest and Aggregate Ec/Io Graph Finger Info or TA Graph
window though Forward Channel or Multipath Info of Logging Mask has been selected;
5) The Logging Mask window cannot be closed by clicking <OK> while clicking <Cancel> will get
the prompt that the mobile phone does not respond.
In the event of the mentioned symptoms, please change long line to short line.
Note: A long line can be used properly on the original COM port on the IBM A series mobile computers.
However, it cannot be used on the machines of DELL or Legend because of a high BER. The long line
cannot be applied to the serial port card of the socket type either. It is likely to bring on high BER when
the long-line is used on QCP-860 and QCP-1960 produced by Qualcomm. And it is better when used on
the new type produced by ALLTEL.
7. Q: Why G218 mobile phone cannot be detected sometimes?
A: Please pull out the connection line and restart the mobile phone to check the parameters of the DM
interface on the G218 mobile phone to solve the problem. Reset the values of the parameters if they are
not UART1 and 115200. Do remember to restart the mobile phone because the settings of the G218 DM
have the following bugs:
1) Connect the DM interface to the connecting line after setting its value to OFF and check it with
software. You can find that the value of DM interface is set to UART1 automatically while it is
closed actually. Restart the mobile phone, but you will find the value is still OFF. Therefore, you
may be misled to believe the parameter setting is correct.
2) The parameters of the DM interface are lost during the use due to certain causes. The mobile phone
shows correct parameter after it is restarted, but in fact it cannot be detected. You can try the
following methods in such a case.
a) Enter the debug menu (to enter, press<50, password: all 0s) and set the DM.
b) Set the communication rate of the DM to 38400 and the DM interface to OFF.
c) Restart the mobile phone.
d) Set the communication rate of DM to 115200 and the DM interface to UART1.
e) Restart the mobile phone again.
f) If lucky, you may find your mobile phone is present in the network now.
3) If above methods do not work, you can try to do combinations of the communication rate and
UART, restart the mobile phone and test it with software until the mobile phone is detected, and
then set the values of the parameters to UART1 and 115200.To reduce the effect of the test

- 12 -
software on the mobile phone, please pull out the connection line or exit the test software before
setting the parameters of G218 and make sure the indicator on the connection line is off.
8. Q: Both of the USB-transit serial port cable and the dual-serial-port card can be used to expand a serial
port, which is better?
A: We recommend the serial-port card. Because chips of USB-transit serial port cable in the market
usually are not so good and occupy CPU resources much more. Some of them are unstable indeed and
may lead to blue screen error.
9. Q: How to identify the various Ec/Io values in the software?
A: Currently there are three types of Ec/Io, as defined below:
1) Strongest Ec/Io: The Ec/Io of the strongest finger.
2) Aggregate Ec/Io: The Ec/Io calculated by combining the energy of all fingers.
3) Best Ec/Io: The best Ec/Io of the adjacent set, which is missing in other software and is temporarily
so termed.
10. Q: The COM3 port is shown on the computer, but the software cannot detect the terminal, why?
A: Please confirm the connection port of the terminal, and detect it again. Because usually the COM3
port is the infrared communication port for notebook computer.
11. Q: How to perform the gpsOne service test with CNT1?
A: To perform a gpsOne test:
1) Open Advance Logging Mask Configuration window, and choose GPS Measurement.(Tip: The
gpsOne Test pre-set Logging Mask scheme in Logging Mask Configuration window has chosen
this option, and it is ok to use this model. )
Open Diag Packet Message or Diag Packet Message Summary window, choose GPS Measurement
in the LogMask tree. The relevant gpsOne messages will display in Diag Packet Message or Diag
Packet Message Summary window. IS-801 standard messages display as: IS-801 Reverse/Forward
Link.
12. Q: How to hide DOView menu?
A: Both View and DOView menus are available if your license dongle includes the cdma2000 1x and
EVDO testing license. If you want to do cdma2000 1x test only and hide DOView menu, do as follows:
open System Mode Configuration window, set both Want To Test and Current Test as CDMA1X.
(You can open relevant test windows of EVDO all the same through the Windows function in the
Explorer window.)
13. Q: How to hide the cdma2000 1X functions in View menu?
A: Both View and DOView menus are available if your license dongle includes the cdma2000 1x and
EVDO testing license. If you want to do EVDO test only and hide the relevant functions of cdma2000
1X in View menu, do as follows: open System Mode Configuration window, set both Want To Test
and Current Test as EVDO. The operation to set system mode please refer to FAQ12. (You can open

- 13 -
relevant test windows of cdma2000 1x all the same through the Windows function in the Explorer
window.)
14. Q: Why don't the files transfer after login when performing FTP test?
A: Most often this occurs when the PASV mode for FTP data connection is unselected, and you are
using a personal firewall or anti-virus software. Either one may block the ports needed to make a
successful data connection in PORT mode. If you see an error log similar to the one following, click the
Plan Settings tab and select the problem test item in the list, check the PASV check box in the left
panel and click the <Apply> button, and then start the test again. In addition, please ensure that you
have enough permissions on remote host (Read for download test; Write, Delete and Append for
upload test).

COMMAND:> PORT XXX,XXX,XX,XX,X,XXX
200 PORT command successful.
COMMAND:> RETR /pub/XXX.XX
150 Opening BINARY mode data connection for XXX.XX(40960 Bytes).
ERROR:> Listen timed out.
15. Q: Why do the data rates of some DO terminals drop obviously when using the test software to
collect and display data?
A: Terminal provides diagnostic data for test software by producing and sending messages, this is
process time consuming. The data transmit performances of a few terminals with old version
firmware, like some 1900 or 2100 MHz capable terminals, may be affected badly when the Debug
Messages are requested by the test software because of terminals poor process capability. In that
case, please open Advance Logging Mask Configuration window, unselect the Phone Debug
Messages, click <OK> and try again. You can also modify the pre-defined configuration in
Logging Mask Configuration window consequently, which can save you repetitive configuration.
16. Q: Why the order of phones view menu differs from phones order in Explorer window when perform
multi-phone test?
A: CNT1 sort the phones view menu in a way different from the way CNT1 sort phones in Explorer
window.
17. Q: How to resolve the problem that the computer crash down when doing drive test with the
terminals do not support at Dual Core Processor?
A: Its recommend that close one processor of the computer, there are three ways as below:
1) Run CNT1 VX.XX.exe, then Right-click the tool bars to open "Windows Task Manager"
window, switch to the "process" page, find the "CNT1.exe" in the process list, then
right-click it, enter "processor relation" window, close CPU 1, apply "OK" then will be
ok.

- 14 -
2) Enter the BIOS Configuration when starting the PC (usually press "DEL" or "F2"), Select
the "Advanced" menu, then enter the CPU Configuration, set the "Hyper Threading
Technology" as "Disabled", save and exit will be ok.
3) Enter "Start menu->Run", then input "msconfig" and apply "ok" to open the "System
Configuration Utility" window. Switch to the "BOOT.INT" page, click the "Advanced
Options", then enable the "/NUBPROC"(Default number is 1), apply "ok" and restart the
PC will be ok.
