Teacher Candidate: Danielle Clark Lesson Number: Four Subject/Grade: Math/1st grade Date and Time of Lesson: 10-22-13/12:48

pm Learning Objective: The students will add three numbers together to find the sum. Alignment with Standards: 1.OA.3: Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract. Developmental Appropriateness: The students have been adding two numbers since August. We have added using different strategies. Assessment(s) of the Objectives: Objective Assessment Adding three numbers together *Quick Check *Teacher made test *Practice Book

Essential Question How do you find the sum of 3 numbers?

Formative Assessment This assessment lets me know if the students understand the topic and if they do not, then we can spend extra time on it.

Accommodations: IF the students finish the practice page early then they can start on the second page. Once everyone is finished, we will do the quick checks. Materials: Smart Board Elmo Math Sheet Pencil Math Practice Book Quick Check Manipulatives (Cubes) Procedures: 1. We begin Math by stating what we have discussed so far in topic 5. 2. Math sheets will already be on their desks, so I will begin my lesson by showing the class two cubes and a stack of four cubes.

3. We will discuss what addition sentences can be made with the numbers 2 and 4. I will then place a stack of two cubes next to the 2 and 4. We will discuss these addition sentences. 4. I will then distribute two sets of cubes. We will place different amounts of cubes onto the sheet to find ways of adding three numbers together. 5. I will then go over the inside of the math sheet for number one and number two. They will do the rest on their own. (We will discuss more problems if the children do not understand.) 6. We will go over the problems to make sure everyone has the correct answers. 7. After going over the inside, we will solve the problems on the back together. 8. I will pass out Math practice books and the students will complete R 5-8 and P5-8, depending on time. 9. Quick checks will be handed out after I collect math books. 10. Students will write in agendas after I collect quick checks. References: Lynn Patterson Envision Math-Topic 5 Activity Analysis: 1. Math Handout: This supports the math standard and objective because it gives the student multiple chances to solve problems with three addends. We will discuss the different addition sentences that can be written. 2. The practice sheets in the math book are on grade level and will give similar problems to what we do as a whole class. Technology: Technology will be incorporated in the first part of the lesson. I will use the Smart Board and the Elmo to project the handout onto the screen. The children have understood the lessons better since they can see it step by step. Technology will not be part of the second part of the lessons since the practice books are already in the classroom and they will do these alone. Instructional Strategy Analysis: Direct Instruction o This strategy supports my lesson objective because it gives the students a chance to see how to work out these math problems because we have never worked with three digits before. o This stems from student needs because the children need to practice adding three digits at once. o The students would need their Math Sheet that is handed to them, a pencil, and manipulatives (cubes). Independent Work o This strategy supports my lesson objective because it gives the students more practice for solving the problems.

o This stems from student needs because they need additional practice without me giving the answers. o The students need their math sheet or practice book and a pencil to complete this task.
