When teacher use these strategies intentionally learning will take place. These strategies are powerful tools for teaching and learning. ! In the video, one strategy, cues, questions, and advance organizers was highlighted. This McRel strategy is important because it helps to activate a students" prior knowledge. When teachers are intentional about using this strategy, students will begin to develop an understanding of new materials and then will be able to transfer the new learning to real life situations. There is a variety of ways to use this strategy. ! Another strategy that is extremely powerful in the classroom is Reinforcing Effort and Providing Recognition. According to research , recognition is most effective if it is contingent on the achievement of a certain standard. Also, symbolic recognition works better than tangible rewards. A way that I could implement this in my future classroom would be to share weekly stories of people who succeeded by not giving up. Encouraging perseverance in my classroom is something that I want to make sure that I do in my future classroom. I can also use the Pause, Prompt, Praise strategy. This strategy is great for students who are struggling on a problem or question. If a students is struggling, pause to talk about the problem, then prompt with specic suggestions and questions to help the student improve. Then, if the students"s performance improves as a result, offer praise. ! Another strategy that McRel believes in is the setting objectives and providing feedback strategy. We have learned about how important feedback is in our PEI class. We have also learned the importance of setting objectives and goals for our students is. Setting a core goal for a unit about to be taught is extremely important and a ways to encourage students. Research shows that giving feedback to students generally produces positive results. One way to give good feedback would be to use a rubric. We have talked a lot about rubrics in our Math Methods class. Using rubrics, sometimes can be general, but are a great tool for giving students feedback. ! These McRel strategies are research-based strategies that are proven to be effective in the classroom. I know that using these strategies in my future classroom will help me to be a more effective teacher. These strategies help to enhance learning in a variety of different ways!
