The benchmarking aims to identify the best Open Source solutions with support, which collects positive accolades from the market. We started by the analysis of a wide range
Host Environment
Build to Change
The benchmark was based on a set of tools completely free to use with multiple hosting solutions, with various customized modules with different types of licensing (Open Source, GPL, CPAL, and so on).
Today the market offers various Project Management tools. Should we bet on Open Source solutions? Instead of answering the question, we would like to present alternative solutions to the most relevant, reputable and expensive market tools (ex, HP PPM, Clarity, EPM, and so on). This benchmark aims to be the beginning of new approaches.

Application created by a team based in Spain and Germany. With project planning Top-down/Bottom-up
features, projects may consist in an arbitrary number of subprojects and tasks. Using a top-down approach, a project total budget is split over a number of subprojects. In terms of financial estimations, the system indicates if the sum of planned units for each task in a subproject is beyond its estimated budget. Using a bottom-up approach, a group of tasks can be aggregated to a sub-project, and multiple subprojects can form
a main project. The budget of the main project is calculated based on the estimations made on a task level.
The capacity management is performed based on resource assignments defined on a project level, a resource report indicates availability, or oversubscription, of resources across all open projects. Project completion

Project-Open
When it comes to web-based project management software, there are many choices in the market all with
various degrees of sophistication and usability. Project-Open has been around for a few years, but never received the recognition that it deserves. With the recently developed version 3.4, we recommend the inclusion on the short list when considering new project management systems. When expected to be another task scheduling tool, think again. In addition to traditional project planning and tracking, the comprehensive
software package also supports a number of other processes in the areas of finance management, human
resources, collaboration, CRM, and much more.

Enterprise scale project management application for Microsoft Windows and Unix operating systems. Project.net is commercial open source. Support and training are available from Project.net Inc. of Bedford, Massachusetts. IT was founded in 1999 to develop project collaboration applications using Internet technologies. The company's initial focus was building and deploying a collaboration engine for use by public
and private web-based exchanges. In 2002, PC Magazine awarded Project.net with the Editors' Choice award
in a review of web-based project management applications. In 2006 launched the open source version of Project.nets project and portfolio management (PPM) application. The Open Source Business Conference awarded three open source projects (including Project.net) as "ones to watch" shortly after the acquisition. It is currently used by more than 50,000 people worldwide to help manage their projects[citation needed].

Software for project portfolio management - and at a great price since it's an Open Source program. However, it is important to note that just because the price is right doesn't make it a good fit for small businesses or freelancers - it's much too much for this group. Instead, Project.net is best for start-up companies, IT, and enterprises that require a detailed project management option for their software.

Reminds software Trac except that Redmine is written in Ruby using the Rails framework. Redmine contains
a lot of functionality geared heavily towards developers. Its powerful but may take some getting used to.
This open source project management application is ideal for developers who are familiar with Ruby and need self-hosted software written in their favorite language. The default interface is not as clean as Open Atrium or Collaborative, but the whole point of open source is that it is free and you can contribute your enhancements back to the development community.

Agile Agile software development is a group of software development methods based on iterative and incremental development, where requirements and solutions evolve through collaboration between self-organizing, cross-functional teams. It promotes adaptive planning, evolutionary development and delivery, a time-
boxed iterative approach, and encourages rapid and flexible response to change. It is a conceptual framework that promotes foreseen interactions throughout
the development cycle.
Cloud Computing The delivery of computing and storage capacity as a service to a community of end-recipients. The name comes from the use of a cloud-shaped
symbol as an abstraction for the complex infrastructure it contains in system diagrams. Cloud computing entrusts services with a user's data, software and computation over a network. CPAL Common Public Attribution License ("CPAL") is a free software license approved by the Open Source Initiative in 2007. Your goal is to be a general license for software distributed through a network. It is based on Mozilla Public License. Gantt Chart Gantt chart is a type of bar chart, developed by Henry Gantt, that illustrates a project schedule. Gantt charts illustrate the start and finish dates of the terminal elements and summary elements of a project. Terminal elements and summary elements comprise the work breakdown structure of the project. SaaS Software as a service (SaaS, pronounced ss or s s), sometimes referred to as "on-demand software"[citation needed], is a software delivery model in which software and associated data are centrally hosted on the cloud. SaaS is typically accessed by users using a thin client via a web browser.
WBS A work breakdown structure (WBS), in project management and systems engineering, is a deliverable oriented decomposition of a project into smaller
components. It defines and groups a project's discrete work elements in a way that helps organize and define the total work scope of the project.

GPL GNU General Public License (GNU GPL or simply GPL) is the most widely used free software license. The GPL is the first copyleft license for general use, which
means that derivative works can only be distributed under the terms of same license. Under this philosophy, the GPL grants recipients the rights of free software definition and uses copyleft to ensure the freedoms are preserved, even when the software is changed or added. This is in distinction to the premise of free software licenses, in which the BSD licenses are the standard examples. Online Collaboration Tool Collaborative software (also referred to as groupware) is computer software designed to help people involved in a common task achieve goals. One of the earliest definitions of collaborative software is, "intentional group processes plus software to support them." (Peter and Trudy JohnsonLenz).

Open Source In production and development, open source is a philosophy, or pragmatic methodology that promotes free redistribution and access to an end
product's design and implementation details.
Proprietary Proprietary Software is a software licensed under exclusive legal right of the copyright holder. The license is given the right to use the software under
certain conditions preventing other uses, such as modification, distribution or re-engineering.

AGPL Affero General Public License, free software license that added to GPL clauses about the use of software through networks. These clauses require that the source code is completely made available to any user of the network, normally a web application BSD BSD or Berkeley Software Distribution is a family of free software permissive licenses, whose original owners were regents from the California University (Berkeley), because this license was first written in this university. Being a permissive free software license, it places minimal restrictions to the way software
may be redistributed, in contrast with the copyleft licenses that have reciprocity and similarity requirements.
GNU GNU General Public License, GNU GPL or simply GPL is a designation of the free software license conceived by Richard Matthew Stallman in 1989, under the Free Software Foundation GNU project. GPL is the most used license in free software projects, due to its adoption to the GNU project and to the GNU/Linux operating system. The software used to manage Wikipedias content is covered by this license, in version 2.0 or superior. GPL v2 The main difference between this version and the version 1 is the existence of a clause that says if someone has imposed restrictions, that dont allow the distribution of software with the GPL license in a way that respect the freedom from other users to do the same, that someone may not distribute it in any way. MIT Its a permissive free software license created by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Its compatible with the GPL license MPL Mozilla Public License is a free software license, mainly used in Mozilla software and software related to it. Copyleft license is similar but not as rigid as the
distribution. You can create a proprietary version of a code under this license. Not compatible with GPL, ie, a module covered by the Mozilla license and a
module covered by the GPL license and can not be legally bound.

CPAL This license is based on the Mozilla Public License, and adds the following conditions: the original developer can include its information in certain parts of the code, and this has to be shown on the screen of the application. Additionally, when the software is executed as a network service, is triggered by an action
name copyleft which prevents that an ASP loophole occurs, making the available source code available to any network user.
GPL GNU General Public License, GNU GPL or simply GPL is a designation of the free software license conceived by Richard Matthew Stallman in 1989, under the Free
Software Foundation GNU project. GPL is the most used license in free software projects, due to its adoption to the GNU project and to the GNU/Linux
operating system. The software used to manage Wikipedias content is covered by this license, in version 2.0 or superior. Online Collaboration Tool Online collaboration, or online collaboration on a massive scale, is a form of collaboration in which large groups of people usually work independently on the same project. These projects typically take place on the Internet using social software, which primarily produce relations, eg social networking service and support tools for collaboration, producing a collaborative product, eg wiki platforms, which provide a potentially source of
software license that permits users to study, change, improve and also to distribute the software.
Proprietary Proprietary Software is a software licensed under exclusive legal right of the copyright holder. The license is given the right to use the software under certain conditions preventing other uses, such as modification, distribution or re-engineering.

AGPL Affero General Public License, free software license that added to GPL clauses about the use of software through networks. These clauses require that the source code is completely made available to any user of the network, normally a web application. Apache License Free software license created by the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) compatible with version 3 of the GPL BSD BSD or Berkeley Software Distribution is a family of free software permissive licenses, whose original owners were regents from the California University
(Berkeley), because this license was first written in this university. Being a permissive free software license, it places minimal restrictions to the way software
may be redistributed, in contrast with the copyleft licenses that have reciprocity and similarity requirements.
Buil-in Applications The applications system has built-in such as blog, chat, Weather, Wiki, among others.
CGI-mode Support The system can run in CGI mode for development purposes or in low-end systems.
Commerce The system provides built-in applications or add-ons of commerce type (such as: shopping cart, PayPal, iTransact, among others).

GPL v2 The main difference between this version and the version 1 is the existence of a clause that says if someone has imposed restrictions, that dont allow the distribution of software with the GPL license in a way that respect the freedom from other users to do the same, that someone may not distribute it in any
way.
GPL v3 Some changes regarding software patents, license compatibility, free software, definition of source code and hardware restrictions were introduced to the
license.
LGPL A lesser general public license written in 1991 and updated in 1999. It is a free software license written as a compromise between GPL and the most permissive

licenses (BSD, MIT). The main difference between the GPL and the LGPL is that it allows the association with programs that arent under the GPL or LGPL, including proprietary software. Load Balancing The system allows placing a load balancer in front to separate calls for multiple servers. This requires that the user sessions can be passed between all nodes in a transparent way. MIT License It is a permissive license for free software created by Institute of Technology of Massachusetts. It is compatible with the GPL license. Mozilla Public License Mozilla Public License is a free software license, mainly used in Mozilla software and software related to it. Copyleft license is similar but not as rigid as the distribution. The study includes Open Source Operating Systems products that are often used and include support. We addressed the features that are considered most relevant comparing with the level of Operating Systems and, therefore, allow a more complete evaluation about the capacity of each technology analyzed. Thus, the analysis of all these features allow an objective comparison between different Operating Systems and which one can adapt better to the customer needs.
During its preparation were evaluated several parameters, such as: Alternatives without costs; Packet format; Which distribution is based; Last version of the kernel; Frequency with new versions are available; Duration of the support; Lowest annual price.

Open Source Open Source is software that is available in source code form: the source code and other copyrights holders for copyright are provided under a free software license that permits users to study, change, improve and also to distribute the software. GPL GNU General Public License, GNU GPL or simply GPL is a designation of the free software license conceived by Richard Matthew Stallman in 1989, under the Free Software Foundation GNU project. GPL is the most used license in free software projects, due to its adoption to the GNU project and to the GNU/Linux operating system. The software used to manage Wikipedias content is covered by this license, in version 2.0 or superior. GPL v2 The main difference between this version and the version 1 is the existence of a clause that says if someone has imposed restrictions, that dont allow the
distribution of software with the GPL license in a way that respect the freedom from other users to do the same, that someone may not distribute it in any
way.
GPL v3 Some changes regarding software patents, license compatibility, free software, definition of source code and hardware restrictions were introduced to the
license.
