Alex Tich M. This normally refers to Circuit breakers which are mechanically linked (Ganged) to one operating mechanism, it can never happened that all poles will open at the same time no matter how many adjustments you make. Alex Tich

Mohammad I. When CB operates, each of the three poles clear at their respective current zeros. While one pole clears first, the other two poles continue to carry current. This gives rise to a temporary overvoltage across the open contacts of the pole that clears first. Now, the ratio of this over-voltage and nominal system voltage is the first pole to clear factor, as I understand. Ahmad A. First Pole to Clear Factor is defined as the ratio between: It mathematically shownof that can be up tobreaker 1.5 for a 1-can Thebe voltage on the terminal thethis firstfactor pole of the circuit to CB atthe EHV level. This fault, means that is this over-voltage could be up to clear three phase which normally the most highest and 1.5PU. sever voltage. And 5 months ago 2- The Voltage on the terminal of the circuit breaker after clearing the fault, which is normally than the to first pole. Bojan V. Just to add: less 1,5 first pole clear factor is valid for Selection of this factor is short-circuit, mainly dependent on the system neutral ungrounded three phase neutral point is earthed. Or when earthing, if solidly or not. As well known, faults three phase short earthed circuit is (grounded) grounded, and neutral point isolated. So,on the un-earthed system generates higher voltages then the when first pole break current, we have occurs described byearthed mr. Ahmad system, so: and mr Mohammad. After first pole shut down electric arc(finally break We select a circuit breaker for un- earthed/ resistance system current), there is two-phase short-circuit through other earthed two poles, and with a factor of 1.5, while for solidly earthed system we select avalues circuit currents in these poles are in opposition. That means that their Alex Tich M. I think this question should be answered by people who breaker with factor 1.3. comes to zero pointof at the same pointthey and mean. also arcs both to poles are are in manufacturing and tell us what Iffactor it in refers what In very special uses we select Circuit breaker with of 1.0. extinguished in theabout samethen time all with factor 1,0. This is my point of first view, if people are talking breakers should have the same it is wrong I am accepting objections :) 5 months ago pole to clear factor. Remember the phases have an angle of 120 degrees between them. 4 months ago

Bojan V. I work in manufacturing of circuit breakers :) During the two phase short circuit, symetry is lost and angle is not 120 degrees between phases.

Bojan Edward G. It is Ratio between Voltage appearing across Faulty phase before interrupting faulty current to Voltage appearing across all three phase after fault has been cleared. It is designed as 1.3 for Solidly grounded system and 1.5 for Ungrounded system.

ali S. The first-pole-to-clear-factor (kpp) is depending on the earthing system of the network. The first-pole-to-clear-factor is used for calculating the transient recovery voltage for three-phase faults. In general the following cases apply: - kpp = 1.3 corresponds to three-phase faults in systems with an earthed neutral. - kpp =V. 1.5 to three-phase in isolated Bojan Icorresponds made one mistake in upperfaults comments. Aftersystems first poleor break resonant current: earthed systems. 1.0pole corresponds to special cases, e.g. two-phase railway - kpp with = first to clear factor 1,5(in isolated systems), other two poles systems. break current in the same time with factor 0,87 Awith special there is a three-phase fault without involving firstcase pole is to when clear factor 1,3(grounded systems), second pole break earth in a system with earthed neutral. This case corresponds todont kpp = with factor 1,27, and third with 1,0. In this case, other two poles 1.5. This special case is however not normally considered in the break in the same time... Ahmad A. Great help guys standards. Apologize!

guilhem B. It has to be mention that cb with a kpp of 1,5 does not cover a cb with a design with kpp1,3.! Even though the TRV transient recovery voltage across the circuit breaker terminal is higher with a kpp 1,5 (phase to ground peak voltage * kpp * kat (amplitude factors), the arcing window of a kpp with a 1,5 have a shorter arcing window ! See IEC 62271-100 drawing part. Kpp is V. important also arcing window Bojan I thinkbut that in practice nothing!!! would happened if you install breaker 3 months with ago kpp=1,5 in effectively ground system(kpp=1,3). Of course, standard IEC 62271-100 request separate testings with longer arcing times for kpp=1,3, but my opinion is that it is requested to equalize peak of recovery voltage and produced heat energy during the arcing. Something similar is obvious during short-circuit switch type tests, where T10 test-duty has higher peak recovery and rate is ofcorrect. rise then Franco L. What Guilhem wrote above voltage (hello Guilhem) We T100s (100% of rated short-circuit current).aPlease, I would can like to may add that according to IEC 62271-100 circuit breaker be hear your opinions about matter. Regards... tested to cover both this the Kpp conditions, giving the TRV parameters for kpp=1.5 (higher peak than 1.3) and verifying the arcing time as per 3 months ago kpp=1.3 (longer arcing window than 1.5) in one test.
