Tens of thousands of South Africans and scores of world leaders attended a memorial service for Nelson Mandela. Close to 100 presidents, religious leaders, queens and sheikhs took their place alongside mourning South Africans in Johannesburg's rain swept Soccer City stadium to farewell the anti-apartheid icon. Leaders from across the world paid tribute to Mandela, with US president Barack Obama describing him as a "giant of history... who moved a nation towards justice".
Torrential rain delayed the service, which began an hour later than planned on Tuesday morning (local time), with the singing of the national anthem. Program director and deputy president of the ANC Cyril Ramaphosa began proceedings, calling on people to reflect on Mandela's dignity. "We will reflect on the life of a man who took the pain of millions of South Africans," he said. "He took their humiliations and the dignity they were stripped of and made them his very own, and with the weight
of burden on his shoulders, he worked to free us all." Four of Mandela's grandchildren took to the podium to pay tribute to their grandfather, who died aged 95 at his home last Thursday. UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon then addressed the crowd saying: "South Africa has lost a hero. We have lost a father. The world has lost a father. The world has lost a beloved friend and mentor. Leader Bill Shorten, Prince Charles, and British Prime Minister David Cameron. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, along with former Prime Ministers Jean Chretien, Kim Campbell, Brian Mulroney and Joe Clark, also attended the memorial service. South African President Jacob Zuma was booed and jeered as he prepared to make his speech, with many in the stadium dissatisfied with his leadership of government. Organisers were forced to cut in with a choir to drown out the hostile reaction. Making the keynote address Mr Zuma said Mandela was "one of a kind" who "leaves behind a nation that loves him dearly". "He leaves a continent that is truly proud to call him an African. He leaves the people of the world who embraced him as their own beloved icon," he said. "Most importantly, he leaves behind a deeply entrenched legacy of freedom, human rights and democracy in our country." Mr Mandela's grandson, Ndaba Mandela, told the reporter that the day was a mixture of pride and happiness. "Very proud. Very proud indeed," he said. "We'll obviously continue his legacy in the best way we can." Millions watch around the world The service was broadcast to millions of people across the world and another
120,000 people watched the event on giant screens set up in three overflow stadiums in Johannesburg. The memorial service, in the venue where Mandela made his last major public appearance in 2010, was seen as a final chance for grieving South Africans to unite in a mass celebration of his life ahead of the formal state funeral on Sunday. Before the service Mandela's eldest daughter, Makaziwe Mandela, said her father spent a "wonderful" week surrounded by family before his death. "Until the last moment he had us," she said. "The children were there, the grandchildren were there, Graca (his wife) was there, so we are always around him and even at the last moment, we were sitting with him on Thursday the whole day." She said she hopes her father will be remembered for promoting spiritual as well as political freedom. "He talks about the fact that it takes courage to forgive. Forgiveness is a very difficult thing," she said. "I think he knew that if he didn't forgive, he would be forever imprisoned spiritually. The lesson we can take from his life is to have the courage to forgive other people." Candle lit in Mandela's prison cell on Robben Island A single candle has been lit in Mandela's tiny prison cell on Robben Island, where he spent the harshest of
his 27 years in apartheid jails. The island is now a museum and major tourist site with visitors able to see the 2.5 by 2.1 metre cell where Mandela spent 18 years. Ahead of the burial in Qunu, Mandela's body will lie in state for three days from Wednesday in the amphitheatre of the Union Buildings in Pretoria where he was sworn in as president in 1994. Each morning, his coffin will be borne through the streets of the capital in a funeral cortege, to give as many people as possible the chance to pay their final respects. Parliament met in a special session on Monday (local time), with MPs carrying single red roses as they entered the assembly building that was flanked by giant portraits of Mandela in tribal dress and as an elder statesman. Deputy president Kgalema Mothlante told the house, in which Mandela's grandson Ndaba was present, that the anti-apartheid icon's dream had not ended with his victory in the all-race election of 1994, nor with his death. "The litmus test ... is whether inheritors of his dream, heirs to his vision and adherents of his philosophy, will be able to make the dream for which he lived come to pass in the fullness of time," Mr Mothlante said. "After the outpouring of grief, the celebration of and reflection on Nelson Mandela's life, we will have to answer the question as to how we advance towards that dream."

The National Federation Party Waits For 'Critical Laws' On Electoral System Don't Become An MP If You Can't Find A Job: PM
The National Federation Party will make a decision on whether to contest the 2014 election or not when all electoral legislation is in place. Apart from the legislation, like other political parties the NFP is also awaiting the appointments of the Supervisor of Elections and the Electoral Commission. NFP president Raman Singh said in an interview that the party was heading towards the 2014 election. "But like other political parties, we are waiting for the critical laws on the electoral system to be in put in place," he said. "At the moment, we know what is in the new Constitution, which is one constituency and a 50-member Parliament. "But we are in the dark on how the election will be conducted, what form of ballot paper will it be and how people will cast their votes." When asked, Mr Singh said the party could only work out its strategy for the election when things are made clear. He said the party could only explain its strategy to the people when the electoral legislation was in place. "The party will have to make a decision on whether to contest the election but that will be when all the laws are in place. "Tentatively, we are getting ready. We are holding meetings, forming committees and making the party structure strong," he said in the interview. However, Mr Singh told the party's 50th anniversary celebration in Nadi on Saturday that the party would contest the 2014 election on its own. "I want to clear the misconception or ill-information amongst some quarters about the NFP working with other parties for next year's elections," he said.
People should not consider becoming a Member of Parliament just because they cannot get a job elsewhere, says Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama. We certainly cant have people joining Parliament because they cant get a job elsewhere, which has been the case in Fiji in the past, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama told the Attorney Generals conference in Natadola, Sigatoka last weekend. He said Fiji wants to attract high quality candidates to political office and pay them well, a practice that has had a beneficial impact on good governance in a country like Singapore. He said a 50-member lean Parliament will be effective in a country due to its size. The Prime Minister said the Constitution provides for a single national constituency and a single chamber parliament as in Israel and the Netherlands and the single constituency concept would force all members of Parliament, in a small country like
Fiji, to be concerned not just with the needs of their particular constituencies or regions but with the development of Fiji as a whole. Our open list system of proportional representation is similar to that of Israel, Brazil, Finland, Indonesia, and Moldova and, in fact, the Australian Senate, the countrys upper house, he said. He said commentators who have been saying that ordinary Fijians wont understand the new system because of its radical departure from the past are selling Fijian people short as history shows that Fijians have always been able to adapt to new circumstances very quickly and with relative ease. Bainimarama said international experts are working with the Elections Office to help government avoid the deficiencies of the last election in terms of logistics and other discrepancies. The conference which was attended by close to 300 delegates and had various keynote speakers.

All schools will receive grant for the first term of school next year irrespective of the 2013 audited financial report submission, Fijis Education Ministry has clarified. And the disbursement of Term 1 grant to all schools that qualify for education assistance will take place from January 2-10, 2014. Permanent Secretary for Education, Dr Brij Lal says schools have till 31 May to submit their audited accounts of 2013 to ensure that the Term 2 and 3 grants are given to them on time. He has also brushed off comments made by Fiji Teachers Association general secretary, Maika Namudu that rural and remote schools will be at a disadvantage in meeting the government requirement for the disbursement of educational grants. Dr Lal says expertise will be provided to schools in the rural and remote areas that need assistance in the preparation of their audited reports. These schools however will first need to inform their education district office of their need to be assisted.

A Rotorua man has "split a tight-knit community" after he indecently assaulted a teenage girl, a court has heard. Sanjesh Nand, 28, an electrician, was sentenced in the Rotorua District Court to eight months' prison after he was previously found guilty on two counts of indecent assault on a then 17-year-old. According to the police summary of facts, Nand was a family friend of the victim and both were part of the Rotorua Fiji-Indian community. He went to the victim's Rotorua home on January 5 knowing she was the only one home, on the pretence of helping organise travel plans on the computer. He began asking questions about her boyfriend and attempted to kiss her. "You rolled the chair [you were on] away from the computer and moved in front of the door. She resisted your attempts to kiss her and in the course of this you took her cellphone and keys - your way of ensuring she wouldn't leave the property," Judge Chris McGuire said. Nand later placed his hand up her dress and touched her outside her underwear. "Because she resisted, you stopped and eventually left the house and said to her, if she told anyone you would find her and do something bad to her ... You denied any wrongdoing to her but strangely you apologised to her mother," Judge McGuire said. "I am satisfied beyond doubt the jury got it right, that you did this thing." The court heard the victim's family wasn't going to make a complaint to police but they heard Nand was openly
discussing the incident and accusing the victim of lying. Judge McGuire said as a result of the offending the victim felt isolated from her friends, struggled to sleep, eat and concentrate and needed to take time out away from Rotorua. "Both of your families are part of a close-knit Fiji-Indian community here and it's fair to say, observing from the trial, that this matter has sent shockwaves through that tight-knit community," Judge McGuire said. "Its split the community with some members coming to court to support you and tell the court what a good person you are then of course the victim, her family and other members of the community supporting them." Judge McGuire said Nand had not expressed any remorse or insight into his wrongdoing and refused to accept any responsibility. The victim's father told the Rotorua Daily Post his family was satisfied Nand was in jail. "It was very, very stressful, it put a strain on all our family, the way we talked to each other and wherever we went, people were asking us what was happening - we just had to put our heads down," he said. "Now it is peaceful and my daughter can hold her head high as people now know she was telling the truth." He said he wanted to thank those who supported his family since the incident, especially the Rotorua police.

The Ministry of Agriculture is working closely with cocoa farmers around the country in a bid to revive the industry. The interest in cocoa farming has been gradually increasing with 150 growers and interested farmers from as far as Rakiraki and Nairukuruku in Naitasiri recently participating in a field day at Namau Village in Tailevu last week. While opening the field day, the ministrys Crop Extension director, Unaisi Waibuta said the Government is seriously looking into reviving the cocoa industry in the country. Mrs Waibuta said a total of $300,000 has been allocated for cocoa development in the budget for next year and which would be used to assist the growers in the country. Cocoa had always been of great interest in Fiji as it can be seen on the Fiji flag Coat of Arms where the lion is seen holding a cocoa pod, Mrs Waibuta said. Mrs Waibuta highlighted that government had been encouraging people to plant cocoa on large scale since the early 1970s and some of the cocoa trees planted at that time still exist. Local cocoa production had been at its best in 1987 when Fiji produced 468 tonnes of dried cocoa beans, which over the years had gradually decreased to10 tonnes this year, she said. Ministry of Agriculture through its Extension Division will continue to work with existing cocoa growers to increase cocoa production in the
country. Senior Agriculture Officer (Tailevu) Sanaila Turaga said the reason for downfall of the cocoa industry was due to the unavailability of market, outbreak of pest and diseases and farmers losing interest in growing the commodity. Many farmers also chose to plant other cash crops for quick income as cocoa is a seasonal crop and did not have much involvement by the Government to assist them during 1980s and 1990s, Mr Turaga said. With the assistance provided by Government this year, more farmers have now shown interest in growing cocoa which will certainly increase production over the years. Under the Cocoa Revitalization program, existing cocoa plants will be maintained and more planting will be done in some areas, he added. Mr Turaga said that some of the work currently being undertaken involved maintaining existing plants include pruning of taller trees, weeding and application of fertilizer. There has been a huge demand for dried cocoa beans in the export market and currently farmers are receiving a price of about $5.00 per kilogram from some of the exporters, Mr Turaga said. He said that the ministry has established a mobile team which is working closely with cocoa growers to ensure that the industry is revived and the production increases to meet the growing market demand.

A leading supplier of fresh juice, freshly cut fruits and vegetables from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will be in the country this week to hold talks with relevant authorities about potential trade and investment opportunities here. Through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Fiji embassy in Abu Dhabi, Barakat Quality Plus managing director, Michael Wunsch has been liaising with Investment Fiji on the visit which would allow him to explore potential trade partners from this part of the world on the supply of fresh fruits and vegetables. Established in Dubai in 2002, Barakat Quality Plus became a market leader in freshly pressed juice and fresh cut vegetables and fruits in the last three years. While in the country Mr Wunsch would also be meeting and other exporting companies engaged in processing fresh tuna and poultry products.
In a briefing with Fijis Ambassador to UAE, Mr Robin Nair at the Barakat headquarters in Dubai recently, Mr Wunsch added that fresh pineapples and coconut supply will be also on his agenda. I also wish to open up Fijis agriculture produce to the UAE and to the Middle Eastern region, Mr Wunsch said. Any trading between the two countries will take advantage of the Inter-Airline Agreement that now exists between the Emirates Airline and Fijis national carrier, Fiji Airways. Barakat Groups major focus has been in the distribution of fresh fruit and vegetables into Five Star and above category hotels and airline catering. They are also considered as the extended kitchen of the hospitality and retail sector with their supplies shipped from all over the world, converging the world market on fruits and vegetable in Dubai.

The Fiji Police Force is concerned at the number of domestic violence cases reported over the weekend and is calling on members of the public not to resort to violence when trying to deal with their frustration. Last Sunday, a 31year old woman of Tuirara Subdivision was allegedly punched and kicked by her drunken husband at their home following a heated argument. On the same day, a 22 year old woman of Laqere Settlement was also allegedly assaulted and punched by her husband during an argument over a mobile phone. Last Saturday, a 29 year old teacher of Levuka Town was arrested after he assaulted his wife at Koromakawa Club. All cases are currently being investigated. Domestic abuse affects people from
all walks of life and in many different ways. Police are advising those in relationships to solve their issues in an amicable manner. There is a no drop policy directive on all domestic violence cases which is why we are advising couples to consider the consequences of their actions on their loved ones and in particular their children. Over the festive season there is usually a lot of assault cases received as directly related to the consumption of alcohol. We dont want families to be separated this festive season however this will be the unfortunate case for those caught on the wrong side of the law. Officers will be out there to look after the public as they enjoy the month of festivities and there will be zero tolerance shown towards any form of assault.
About 800 corporate, Government agency staff and individuals woke up to complete the last leg of Westpac Fijis Westpac Morning Walk this year. This is an initiative by the bank and other stakeholders in a bid to promote healthy lifestyle across in Fiji. With Non-communicable Diseases (NCD) rates gradually increasing in the country, it was a great way to start and join hands to fight the diseases that are taking over our lives. Westpac general manager, Adrian Hughes and Fiji Physio Associations Cathy Wong echoed the sentiments at Albert Park, Suva, one of the 10 centres throughout the country. Mr Hughes said: We are part of the NCD problem in the country so lets work out a solution. Westpac will continue to support the walk and looks forward to taking it to another level. The World Health Organisation recently reported that NCDs had
reached a crisis stage in the Pacific and was accountable for 80 per cent of all deaths across the region. Partnership Earlier this year, Westpac Banking Corporation entered a partnership with the Ministry of Health, Wellness Unit and the Fiji Physiotherapy Association of Fiji. The organisations renewed their partnership with the aim of encouraging the people of Fiji towards taking a more responsible approach toward health and wellness. The other nine locations that participated in the walk were Rakiraki, Ba, Lautoka, Nadi, Sigatoka, Nausori, Levuka, Savusavu and Labasa. Future plans Mr Hughes said they planned to take next year with more improved approaches and called for more national participation. Next years theme will be Brisk it or Risk it. The first of four walks is planned for March.

Hundreds of foreign workers, mostly from Bangladesh and India, have rioted in Singapore after being enraged by a fatal road accident, leaving 18 people injured and police vehicles burnt. It's the city-state's worst outbreak of violence in more than 40 years. A police statement said the disturbance started in the congested Little India district when a 33-year-old Indian man was killed after being hit by a private bus. Police said about 400 people on the scene began rioting, attacking the bus as well as police vehicles after officers responded to reports of a commotion. Officials said 10 policemen, four civil defence staff and the bus driver and conductor were among the injured, but none were seriously hurt. A total of 27 workers were arrested on charges of rioting, which is punishable by up to seven years in prison plus caning. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said in a statement that "whatever events may have sparked the rioting, there is no excuse for such violent, destructive, and criminal behaviour". "We will spare no effort to identify the culprits and deal with them with the full force of the law," he said. Five vehicles including three police cars and a civil defence ambulance were burnt while pictures and videos posted in social media showed two police cars being overturned by a cheering mob. Several private vehicles were also damaged in the fracas. A passerby Basher Marican who was returning home when the riot escalated, said the "crowd was clearly drunk". "They had beer and liquor bottles in their hands and some were throwing them," he said in Tamil. "It was very unruly, I walked passed a crowd along the restaurants. There were some who were cheering others
as they attacked the bus." The situation was brought under control after the elite Special Operations Command and Gurkhas working for the police arrived on the scene. The rare outbreak of public disorder in strictly governed Singapore took place in an area normally packed with thousands of workers, mostly from the Indian subcontinent, on their day off. "Let me say that the incident that happened last night is intolerable," Commissioner of Police Ng Joo Hee said. "Rioting, destruction of property, it is not the Singapore way." State-linked broadcaster MediaCorp said it was the first riot in Singapore since racial disturbances in 1969. Singapore depends heavily on guest workers, with labourers from South Asia dominating sectors like construction. Many congregate in Little India on Sundays to shop, dine and drink. Sinapan Samydorai, Executive Director at the Think Centre in Singapore, has told Asia Pacific he believes the riot was about emotion. "Some of them were not paid much earlier, but this incident is not related to non-payment of salary," he said. "It is emotional when you see your own national or some of your friends... so I think the first crowd that came out would be his friends. "The bus that caused the accident was also carrying migrant workers back to their dormitory." The incident immediately triggered online attacks on foreign workers in Singapore, but officials called for calm and warned against speculation. Anyone who is found to be armed in a riot or using objects as weapons that can cause death can be jailed up to 10 years with the possibility of caning, a punishment reserved for serious crimes.
Man Charged With Murder Of Husband And Wife In Moonee Ponds Home
Police have charged a 44-year-old man over the murder of a couple in Melbourne's north-west last Sunday night. The husband and wife were murdered just metres away from their three young children in their Darling Street home, in Moonee Ponds. The bodies of Greg Tucker and his partner Korinne Aylward were found late on Sunday night. Meadow Heights man Mustafa Kunduraci was arrested after he was found sitting in the family's driveway with minor injuries. He appeared in an out-of-sessions
court hearing overnight and will face the Melbourne Magistrates Court. The couple's children aged two, three and five were also in the house but were not hurt. Detective Senior Sergeant Shane O'Connell says the children are now in the care of family members. "Whether or not the children were present, whether they've seen or heard anything that's gone on, the fact that we've got three young children aged five and below, and they're in a house where such a horrific thing has occurred, is just tragic," he said.
US Actress Pleads Guilty To Mailing Ricin-Laced Letters To Barack Obama, Michael Bloomberg
A 36-year-old actress has pleaded guilty to mailing ricin-laced letters to US president Barack Obama, New York mayor Michael Bloomberg and a gun control activist. Shannon Guess Richardson admitted to biological weapons charges during a court appearance in Texarkana following her arrest in June, a statement from the US Attorney's Office in Texas said. She faces up to life in prison for the offences. Richardson was detained after sending ricin-impregnated letters to Mr Obama, Mr Bloomberg and Mark Glaze. Mr Glaze had worked closely with Mr Bloomberg in the New York chief's drive to increase gun control. Prosecutors told the court Richardson bought ingredients to manufacture ricin, a deadly biological poison for which there is no known antidote, between April and May. The said she subsequently placed ricin onto three threatening letters addressed to Mr Obama, Mr Bloomberg and Mr Glaze which were posted on May 20. Ten days later, Richardson travelled to Shreveport, Louisiana and told police her husband was responsible for sending the letters, a statement said. A copy of the letter sent to Mr Bloomberg posted online showed a stained, type-written document that contained numerous spelling errors. "You will have to kill me and my family before you get my guns. Anyone wants to come to my house will get shot in the face," it read. "The right to bear arms is my constitutional God given right and I will excersice [sic] that right til the day I die. whats [sic] in this letter is nothing compared to what ive [sic] got planned for you." Richardson has had a piecemeal acting career, including a minor role in the hit zombie television show The Walking Dead. Sentencing will be held at a later date.

South Australian Scalpers Selling Adelaide Rolling Stones Tickets For $3,000
Premium tickets to the sold-out Rolling Stones concert in Adelaide are being offered online for more than $3,000 about six times their initial cost. There are no laws against ticket scalping in South Australia, but the $3,000 is a far cry from the $18 tickets the Stones offered in Paris at a secret gig in October. In response to the scalping, South Australian Attorney-General John Rau says a proposed Major Events Bill could cap the re-sale of tickets to 10 per cent above their face value. "The idea was in big events like that you could declare the event and that would protect the authorised offerers of merchandise and advertising from that sort of unauthorised, basically ripping-off," he said. Independent Senator Nick Xenophon says he will move this week to set up a national Senate inquiry into ticket scalping. South Australians will also be footing a hefty $450,000 bill just for the band to come to the city of churches. The March 22 concert will be the first time in almost two decades the British band has performed in Adelaide, where they will be the opening act for the redeveloped Adelaide Oval. Cash payment defended At the time it emerged South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill defended the payment, saying the concert to help officially open the upgraded oval would be money well spent for the state's taxpayers. "You really get, on really conservative estimates, a $10 return for every dollar we put in," he said. "To have the only full-scale stadium show in the Rolling Stones' Australian tour is a coup for Adelaide. Hosting the world's greatest rock and roll band at Adelaide Oval will be a superb way to celebrate the completion of our worldclass stadium. "I understand that Mick Jagger is an avid cricket fan and is very excited to be playing the first concert at the new Adelaide Oval." The band last toured Australia in 2006, 41 years after first playing in the country. Moments after the Adelaide concert was confirmed band frontman Jagger tweeted: Can't wait to be back in Australia after all this time & what a buzz to be the first to play at the Adelaide Oval! #StonesAdelaide Mick Jagger (@MickJagger) November 20, 2013 Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood will be joined for a special appearance by guitarist Mick Taylor, who was a member of the band between 1969 and 1974 and played on classic albums including Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, and Exile on Main Street. SA Opposition treasury spokesman Iain Evans thinks the money would be better spent on a local band, and claims the payment is more than the amount revealed. "We understand from Government sources it's closer to a million, so the reality is with cost of living the way it is, taxes the way it is, the State Government borrowing this money to bring an overseas act when there are plenty of good South Australian and Australian acts, most South Australians would scratch their head and ask why," he said.
Queensland paedophile Peter Truong, who bought a newborn boy for $US8000 and then allowed men around the world to be abuse the child, has been sentenced in a US court to 30 years' jail. Truong, 36, faced a maximum 40-year sentence, while the plea deal he struck with prosecutors could have allowed a minimum of 24 years. US District Court judge Sarah Evans Barker, in announcing the sentence on Monday in Indianapolis, took note of Truong's willingness to work with authorities to lead them to other paedophiles and his own history as a childhood abuse victim. Truong's domestic partner, Mark
Newton, 42, also from Queensland, was jailed in June for 40 years. Prosecutors say Truong and Newton bought the boy from a woman in a 'foreign' country, believed to be Russia, and then transported him around the world to engage in sex with more than half a dozen other men, all before his sixth birthday. Truong entered guilty pleas to one count of conspiracy to sexually exploit a child and conspiracy to possess child pornography. Prosecutors asked that Truong be sentenced to 33 years' imprisonment. Truong and Newton were arrested in Los Angeles in 2011 and the boy was taken into protective custody.
Nearly a year since Samoa Air started charging passengers by weight, the airline says the experiment has been a huge success. Samoa Air made headlines when it became the first airline in the world to charge people in such a way. Samoa Air's Chief Executive Chris Langton says the trial has been so successful that aircraft will continue to be modified to work under the pay-byweight system. "The profile that we would use for the next aircraft, we would bring it from 14 seats which would be its traditional layout and we'll actually only put in nine seats," he said. "And that way we can provide for people who are paying more because they are larger. "And everybody gets what they're paying for." Mr Langton says customer feedback during the first year of the policy has been positive. "Initially people do the sums," he said. "They just compare what they would
pay on a pay-by-weight system and just do basic arithmetic. "We find that generally speaking if you look at any operation anywhere between any destination worldwide, a person that comes in at about 120 kilos or less will always be better off to travel on a pay-by-weight system." The system works where a passenger's body weight and baggage weight are added together to give a total weight and price. Mr Langton says the system is the way of the future for airlines. "Everything will be done by weight and continues to go that way," he said. "The interest level hasn't diminished anywhere. "Worldwide there's still massive discussion going on as to how pay-byweight is going to transcend into larger aeroplanes." The airline says it benefits from the pay-by-weight system because it can be more precise with filling aircraft to their maximum capacity and therefore more efficient.

Bob Dylan's Electric Guitar Sold In Auction For More Than $1 Million
An electric guitar once owned by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan has sold for a record-breaking $1.06 million. The 1964 Fender Stratocaster was sold at an auction in New York for twice its estimated value. The price for the guitar smashed its pre-sale estimate of between $330,000 and $550,000, according to Christie's auction house. It is the highest price ever paid for a guitar at auction. The identity of the buyer has not been revealed. The guitar was used by Dylan, 72, at the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island on July 25, 1965. His three-song electric set at the festival saw the then 24-year-old evolve from folk-protest singer into an enigmatic rock legend. The set was described by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the most notable events in music history.
American Airlines and US Airways have completed their long awaited merger to create the world's biggest airline. It follows AMR Corporation, the parent company of American Airlines, emerging from its 2011 bankruptcy filing. Shares in the new company soared after making their debut on the Nasdaq exchange under the stock symbol AAL. The merger had previously been blocked by the US Justice Department (DOJ) over concerns about competition in the sector. "Our people, our customers and the communities we serve around the world have been anticipating the arrival of the new American," said new boss Doug Parker. Mr Parker had previously been the head of US Airways. "We are taking the best of both US Airways and American Airlines to create a formidable competitor, better positioned to deliver for all of our stakeholders. We look forward to integrating our companies quickly and efficiently so the significant benefits of the merger can be realised." The two companies say they expect to save more than $1bn in synergies with the merger. New goliath The new airline, which will be known
as American Airlines, will provide nearly 6,700 daily flights to more than 330 destinations in more than 50 countries. It will have a combined workforce of over 100,000 employees. As part of the merger settlement with the DOJ announced in November, both US Airways and American Airlines agreed to give up several hundred slots at airports across the US. Those slots were intended for low-cost carriers such as JetBlue and Southwest Airlines, in order to keep prices low for consumers who might be hurt by the increasing consolidation in the US airline industry. Analysts cheered the news, noting that this was the final merger in a long series. Now, there are three main US carriers: United, Delta, and American. "With the merger of American Airlines and US Airways the long cycle of US industry reconstruction began in 1979 with deregulation is now complete," Nexa Capital's Ray Neidl told the BBC. "The public, as well as investors, will benefit from a financially strong industry which can now invest to keep its product updated and in international markets competitive with foreign carriers."
A former Qantas flight attendant is hoping to be able to sue the Commonwealth, claiming a connection between his Parkinson's disease and mandated pesticide spraying on long-haul flights. Brett Vollus, 52, worked with the airline for 27 years and is claiming he developed the disease because of insecticide spraying on international flights arriving in Australia. The spray is mandated by Quarantine as a way of preventing the spread of insects that transmit human diseases. His Sydney lawyer, Tanya Segelov, says there is medical evidence that the chemicals used are linked to the disease, and she is investigating a possible test case for airline workers to take action against the Commonwealth.
Former Flight Attendant Looks To Sue Over Link Between Parkinson's And Pesticide
"We have a number of flight attendants who have similar exposures. We also have an increasing amount of medical literature that links the insecticide with Parkinson's disease," she said. "We need to find out why it is the Australian Government mandated for such a long period of time that the spray be carried out by the crew while passengers were on board." Ms Segelov says the Commonwealth should have known about the potential health risks. "We also anecdotally have seen in the cohort of flight attendants an increase in motor neurone and particularly Parkinson's disease. And they were never provided with masks nor told to wear masks while spraying," she said.
Indians love for spicy food is well known but a competition in north east India is taking it to a whole new level. Each year, the strongest stomachs from across the world come to the Nagaland Chilli Eating Competition to compete for the title of Chilli-Eating Champion. The region is home to the Naga chilli which rates a staggering 1.04 million on the Scoville Heat Unit, the universal measurement for spicy peppers. Every December, a handful of brave Nagas and some foreigners put their stomachs to the test by seeing how many chillies they can eat in 20 seconds. This year, Chetie Khiamnungyan overthrew reigning champion Namluai Rongmei by eating 18 and a half chillies. Mr Rongmei, a 25-year-old rice farmer, only managed to stomach 12 chillies this year. "I ate 14 pieces last year. It was painful

in my mouth and stomach, but it is not a problem," he said, adding that he has never had to prepare for such competitions as he consumes chilli daily. The winner takes home 25,000 rupees, which is about $US400. This year the competition has drawn a record crowd. Some of the competitors, like Israeli backpacker Omri Adini, worry about what they have gotten themselves into. "I am really terrified but it is going to be a fun experience," he said. Chilli-eating is serious business in this part of the world and organisers have some of the best doctors on standby at the competition. Last year, two contestants in the Nagaland competition were taken to hospital. But this year, only one was rushed to the hospital.

U.S. Newlyweds Allegedly Strangled, Stabbed Man They Lured Through Craigslist
A couple married just three weeks lured a Pennsylvania man to his death with a Craigslist ad because they wanted to kill someone together, police said. Elytte Barbour told officers before his arrest that he and his wife, Miranda, had planned to kill before but their plans never worked out until last month when Troy LaFerrara responded to an online posting that promised companionship in return for money. Elytte Barbour, 22, and Miranda Barbour, 18, both face criminal homicide charges in LaFerrara's death. His body was found Nov. 12 in an alley in Sunbury, a small city northwest of Philadelphia. The couple recently moved to nearby Selinsgrove from North Carolina. According to Sunbury police, Elytte Barbour told investigators he hid in the backseat of the couple's SUV as his wife picked up LaFerrara at a mall on Nov. 11. He told police that, on his wife's signal, he wrapped a cord around LaFerrara's neck, restraining him while Miranda Barbour stabbed him. The 42-year-old man was stabbed 20 times, police said. Miranda Barbour was charged Wednesday. She initially denied knowing LaFerrara, but her story evolved as investigators gathered evidence, including the discovery that the last call received by the victim's cellphone was made from her number, according to a police affidavit. The affidavit said Miranda Barbour acknowledged meeting the victim in Selinsgrove then driving with him to Sunbury, where they parked. She said LaFerrara groped her and she took a knife from between the front seats and stabbed him after he put his hand around her throat, according to the affidavit. Police said Miranda Barbour had told them she purchased cleaning supplies at a department store after stabbing LaFerrara, then picked up her husband and took him to a strip club for his birthday. Police said Elytte Barbour told them it was he that had purchased the cleaning products, an account investigators said was backed up by surveillance footage. Following his wife's arrest, Elytte

Barbour told The Daily Item of Sunbury his wife, whom he married on Oct. 22, regularly hired herself out as a "companion" to men she met on various websites, a business venture he said he supported because it did not involve sexual contact. Barbour said his wife made anywhere from $50 to $850 for meeting with men for such activities as having dinner or walking around a mall. The ads she placed on websites including Craigslist all said upfront that sex was not part of the deal, he said. "She is not a prostitute," he said. "What
she does is meet men who have broken marriages or have no one in their lives and she meets with them and has delightful conversation." Elytte Barbour did not have an attorney at his arraignment Friday night. A phone message left for his wife's public defender early Saturday was not immediately returned. Sunbury police Chief Steve Mazzeo told The Daily Item that investigators will also be looking into the death of a man with whom Miranda Barbour had a 1-year-old child. He would not elaborate.

Yoghurt works great as a digestive enzyme that reduces digestive problems. Yoghurt also helps the liver flush out waste.
Cinnamon is rich in iron, calcium and manganese, which helps the liver with its metabolism.
She goes on to explain how removing toxins from the body is beneficial for overall health. Detoxification is a process, which flushes out toxins from the body. The liver works extra hard to remove the toxins and damaged fats that we consume through our food. So, it is important to provide the liver with foods that strengthen it. According to Pallavi, the consumption of processed food affects our organs, the liver is the body's most important organ, as it helps in expelling toxins, which enter our bodies through food. A lot of our fruit and vegetables are coated with chemicals and the meat we eat is loaded with hormones and antibiotics, which are genetically modified. These various processes can breakdown vitamins and minerals present in our food, which are crucial for detoxification of the liver. Garlic and onions are excellent detox foods which help to cleanse the system of toxins. Include a bulb or two of roasted garlic in your diet every week.
Beetroots contain betacyanin which have cancer fighting properties. Beets also contain a good amount of magnesium, iron, zinc and calcium which help in flushing out toxins. Turmeric has antiseptic properties, which are beneficial in fighting infections and it also helps the liver in the detox process.
Apples contain a soluble fibre called pectin which helps in removing metals and other toxins.
Vegetables like cauliflower, cabbage, and broccoli aid in detox and should be a part of your daily diet.
Berries: Include strawberries, raspberries, mulberries and blueberries in your daily diet. Berries are rich in antioxidants, which are important for detoxification of the liver. Wholegrains like oatmeal or wheat are a good source of dietary fibre, which is excellent for detoxing the liver.
Foods bad for Liver: Foods that worsen the condition of the liver are alcohol, sugar based foods and foods which are rich in sodium and animal products. Overconsumption of high cholesterol foods, alcohol and refined sugar can damage the liver, which can cause liver failure, liver cancer, lead to an enlarged liver, cirrhosis and a fatty liver. So, detox your liver to avoid these health problems.
Ginger has several health benefits and is a favourite ingredient for clearing respiratory problems. Ginger also reduces weight by speeding up
Green tea aids in weight loss by increasing metabolism, it can also help the liver function efficiently. Green tea also has antioxidants, which can improve the skin.

New Digital System Tracks Meat B.C. Man Arrested After Allegedly From Rearing To Retail Destroying Six RCMP Cars
RCMP in Burnaby, BC, remained puzzled Sunday by an early morning crime spree that saw at least one local emergency room flooded and a parking lot of police cruisers destroyed by a stolen cube van. At 1 a.m. Sunday, witnesses reported a Jeep Cherokee crashed into an RCMP car parked outside a community policing outpost beside a shopping centre. Police say the 38-year-old suspect climbed out of the totalled Jeep and somehow managed to commandeer a nearby cube van, using it to further destroy parked cruisers in the lot. As he attempted to manoeuvre the fivetonne truck out of the lot, the suspect had allegedly drove into or over five marked RCMP cars, one unmarked car and one vehicle used for community crime watch rending at least half irreparable, Staff Sgt. Major John A. Buis said. I hate to characterize it as a demolition derby, he said, Because its destruction of taxpayer dollars. But it looked like it. After arresting the man without incident, officers took him to Burnaby General Hospital for a physical and psychological evaluation, out of concern for his wellbeing, Staff Sgt. Major Buis said. Once in an examining room, the suspect allegedly jumped up on his bed and ripped out a sprinkler head from the ceiling flooding the surrounding area and forcing hospital staff to evacuate the emergency room. Mr. Buis said the suspect was not
B.C. meat producers and buyers will soon be able to trace beef, lamb, pork and bison digitally from farm to fork, offering consumers an intimate look at the life of their food. The B.C. Ministry of Agriculture recently announced $63,250 in funding from its Buy Local program for slaughterhouses to expand a new tracking system. The funding will allow the system, which will be launched in January, to include lamb, pork and bison starting in March. Ron Keelys Kam Lake View Meats, a family-run slaughterhouse in Kamloops, was one of four businesses in a pilot project for the system, an idea that originated from a collaboration with students at Thompson Rivers University. People want to know what theyre eating, where it came from and what it was fed, Mr. Keely said. The system traces the animals with a radio-transmitting tag and number that accompanies them from the farm where they were raised to where they are sold. It carries information about where the animals were born, whether they were fed grass or grains, whether they were given growth hormones, and how they were slaughtered and processed. The quality of the meat can be assessed and reported anywhere along the chain of production, including the chefs and butchers who serve it. All the information goes into a database that people can access by computer. It makes things so much more easy and so much more safe, Mr. Keely said, adding that he sells to niche markets that are growing huge. The provincial funds will also support the creation of a smartphone app to help consumers to find farms, stores
and restaurants that sell meat raised, slaughtered and packaged in B.C. Gillian Watt, project manager for the BC Association of Abattoirs, said people are changing how they buy meat. Consumers today want to know that the animal was raised humanely. In B.C., our animals are raised on smaller family ranches so theyre not in these huge, huge feedlots, Ms. Watt said. She said she is frequently asked where consumers can buy local, which is especially difficult when it comes to B.C. beef. Poultry and pigs in the province are slaughtered in federally inspected slaughterhouses. But beef inspection was changed to a provincial system years ago, and Ms. Watt said most large retailers will not carry B.C. beef unless it is federally inspected. Its going to take time, but if we can prove to [retailers] that we have our food safety systems in place, then they will be more apt to look at it. The smart phone app will help. For example, Ms. Watt said Choices Markets is the only large grocery chain that carries B.C. beef, but a lot of smaller retailers and farmers markets sell it. The Buy Local program was announced in 2012 and includes $2-million for B.C. food producers to promote their products. The government is aiming to expand the agrifoods sector to $14-billion a year by 2017. In 2012, the sector was at $11.7-billion a year. B.C. Agriculture Minister Pat Pimm said in a statement the economic contribution of B.C.s beef industry is estimated at more than a half billion dollars annually.
restrained so he could be properly assessed. In my 37 years in the RCMP, Ive never seen anything like this, Staff Sgt. Major Buis said of the ordeal. Photos of the parking lot crossed the veteran officers desk on Sunday looked like a disaster zone, but investigators have yet to report a motive for the spree. Drugs, alcohol or psychological factors have not been ruled out. The suspect, from neighbouring Surrey, BC, was known to police, but had no previous altercations with the Burnaby detachment that might explain such action, police said. As the investigation progressed Sunday, police learned of another incident at a nearby hospital that is believed could be linked to the crime spree. The Jeep found at the crash site was stolen on Saturday in Surrey, where officials at Fraser Health Facility reported that a man became agitated and tore out a sprinkler head, causing an undetermined amount of damage to the building and its contents. While police said the suspect at the Surrey hospital also drove a Jeep Cherokee and matched the description of the man accused of damaging police cars in Burnaby, the link between the Surrey and Burnaby incidents has not been officially confirmed. The suspect was remanded into RCMP custody on Sunday, but has not been officially charged. RCMP will not release the suspects identity until charges are laid.

Even after his death, Nelson Mandela has done what no one else seemingly could bring Canadas past-andpresent political leadership together, in one space, for a single cause if only for a few hours. Prime Minister Stephen Harper and three of his predecessors Jean Chretien, Brian Mulroney and Kim Campbell sat in close quarters as they winged their way to South Africa last Sunday in the elaborate front cabin of a government Airbus. But not just any aircraft. The leaders were headed to pay their respects to Mandela comfortably seated in what Chretien once non-affectionately dubbed the Taj Mahal, a reference to the front stateroom with which the plane was retrofitted when Mulroney bought a fleet of the jetliners during his time in office. Now, however, the animosity of the past was gone, at least on the surface. Im not a grumpy politician anymore, Mulroney said with a smile as he spoke of the significance of being in such close proximity with his former rivals. Im a statesman now, he laughed. As he took one of his trademark strolls to the back of the plane, Chretien openly lamented that he never used this particular aircraft during his three terms in office, expressly because of the fleecing he gave Mulroney to paint him as a free spending politician with a taste for Gucci style. Chretien also expressed his disappointment that Canada doesnt put its former prime ministers to work for the countrys betterment and to promote international relations after they leave office. Its not our tradition, Chretien told the three reporters accompanying the prime ministers, former governors general, premiers and other dignitaries
Harper, Former PMS Share A Ride And Memories On Their Way To Honour Mandela
Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper with former Prime Ministers Brian Mulroney(left), Kim Campbell and Jean Chretien on board a government plane travelling to South Africa Sunday December 8, 2013. on the journey to Johannesburg. And its too bad, he said. It was a less-than-subtle point that highlighted the tug-of-war style of Canadian politics as the two former PMs reflected on Mandelas unique consensus-building abilities. When Mandela was released from custody after 27 years in prison, many a pundit has noted that he could have launched his country into civil war. Instead, he chose the path of peace, and eventually saw South Africas apartheid regime crumble. As the Canadian delegation flew over the Atlantic Ocean, just prior to refuelling in Cape Verde, Harper spoke briefly of Canadas role in ensuring Mandelas release from prison. It really tells you about the long and leading history of Canada from the days of Mr. (John) Diefenbaker on, and the struggle that defined Nelson Mandelas life the struggle against apartheid and the transition of South Africa to a modern, non-racial state, Harper said, flanked by Chretien to his right and Mulroney and Campbell sitting across from him at the staterooms wood grain table. Its something we should all be very proud of and Im greatly honoured to be joined by Mr. Mulroney, Mrs. Campbell and Mr. Chretien as well as Mr. (Joe) Clark who will join us when we reach South Africa. But 30 years ago, it was a huge gamble on Canadas part to support the fight against the countrys racist policies and to demand the release of Mandela, said Mulroney. The United States and the U.K. were offside, he noted, and Mandelas African National Congress needed a G7 country in its corner. We knew we were doing the right thing, but on the other hand we also knew that it was a tough battle, he said, adding that other nations including Canada could learn from
how Mandela brought people together. When you just get one look at what president Mandela did in South Africa, you know it was all worthwhile. Its an over-wrought expression, but Nelson Mandela was an iconic figure who was truly a great man. Chretien, who will celebrate his 80th birthday next month, said there is no true comparison to Mandela among world leaders, because every one of them is different. We are all people coming from a long way from (South Africa), he said, adding with a smile You know Im from rural Quebec. Chretien pointed out that Russias Vladimir Putin was an orphan who never met his parents, and that Britains John Major was the son of a circus acrobat. Mandela, the son of a tribal leader who later became a lawyer, will be remembered Tuesday at a public memorial in Johannesburg, and on Wednesday as he lies in state in Pretoria. A state funeral will be held next Sunday. And it is respect for the man that Canadas leaders share that is important this week as South Africa shows the world both its pride in Mandela and its pain in losing him, said former Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean. To see representatives of all political families together going to South Africa to pay tribute to Mandela is totally in the spirit of the man, Jean said as she prepared to board the plane. So Im proud of us. Federal NDP Leader Tom Mulcair was also among those who joined the Canadian pilgrimage to pay homage to Mandela, along with the premiers of the Yukon, Nova Scotia and Alberta, and Assembly of First Nations national Chief Shawn Atleo.

Jean-Guy Mercier was forced to refund the $275,000 purchase price, plus $38,000 in damages. It was then that they found out what had happened in the basement in August 2010. Gilles Nadeau, 66, smothered his
A accused of unwittingly approaching an undercover cop in an alleged attempt to hire someone to kill her husband made an appearance in court Tuesday. York Regional Polices homicide unit says 57-year-old Marina Ray, was arrested Monday, after she handed over money to the officer. Police allege Ray believed she was paying a hitman to kill her 63-year-old husband, and has been charged with counselling to commit first-degree murder. Police allege Ray first asked a friend to do the deed, but the friend went to the police. Rays friend Alexei Pokrovski told the media that the couple were happy early on in their marriage, but things quickly turned sour when Rays husband took her credit cards and racked up hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. He didnt make any contribution to
that house, he just lived through her expenses, Pokrovski said. Property records show that Ray re-mortgaged the home in April for nearly $750,000. According to Pokrovski, she sold it earlier this month for more than $1.3 million. Ray stood to gain about $500,000 from the deal, but according to Pokrovski, her estranged husband caught wind of the sale and stepped in with his lawyer, saying he wanted half. The matter was supposed to be settled next month. He wants half of everything, but (theyre) they were married, Pokrovski said. In the document filed by his lawyer, Rays estranged husband alleges she fraudulently issued a joint petition for divorce, and in doing so, improperly took his name off the property. Ray is scheduled for a bail hearing in Newmarket, Ont., on Friday. She has been ordered not to contact her husband or a witness in the case.

Raitt's office added that mail volumes have dropped almost 25 per cent per household in the last five years. NDP MP Peter Julian accused the Conservative government of being disrespectful by making the announcement the day after Parliament took its annual Christmas break. Im thinking about the loss of service to Canadians, what will happen with senior citizens who wont be getting service over the winter months, he

Here are some other numbers, from Canada Post: 5,094,694 people get door-to-door delivery in Canada. Average cost per address is $269. 3,804, 574 get mail through group mail boxes. Average cost per box is $117. A Conference Board of Canada report released in April said two-thirds of Canadians already do without door-to-door regular mail service, whether through rural mailboxes, group mailboxes, delivery facilities or "centralized mail points."
Parliamentarians this week will consider the merits of a private member's bill that would revoke the pensions of misbehaving colleagues. The bill Protecting Taxpayers and Revoking Pensions of Convicted Politicians Act is the brainchild of New Brunswick Tory MP John Williamson. It's inspired by a similar bill the Nova Scotia legislature passed last summer in the wake of a spending scandal that rocked the province. Williamson's bill, to be debated in the House of Commons on Tuesday, would strip a politician of his/her pension if convicted of an indictable offence committed while in office that results in a sentence of two or more years in prison. It would be retroactive to last June. Senators Mike Duffy, Pamela Wallin,
and Patrick Brazeau are under RCMP investigation. Former senator Mac Harb is also under investigation. No charges have been laid and no allegations against them have been proven in court. Duffy, Wallin, and Brazeau were suspended without pay in November because of expense claims the Senate deemed out of bounds. In 2012, MPs passed a bill that reformed their platinum-plated nest egg so that they will each pay just under $39,000 a year by 2017, nearly quadrupling their current pension contributions. The bill also raised the age of eligibility for a full pension from 55 to 65. Last year, a Canadian Taxpayers Federation report revealed taxpayers chipped in $23 for every $1 an MP contributed to the pension plan.

When 2-year-old Aryah sees a toy she wants at the store, her mom suggests they put it on her birthday wish list. When we get home, we write it down together. Aryah doesn't have a fit because she knows I take the time to listen to her when she wants something. At the same time, she avoids caving in and creating a greed-monster. The way you respond to your toddler's behavior shapes her future actions. Now the rub: How do you teach good behavior to a not-yet-rational, nonverbal child, whose understanding of the finer concepts -- such as manners, sharing, and empathy, not to mention personal safety -- is primitive to nonexistent? Start with a lot of patience and practice, and follow some simple rules of discipline, and before you know it, your tyrannical toddler will be a pleasant preschooler. Rule 1 - Accentuate the Positive It's easy to fall into the habit of simply reacting to your child's misbehavior, forever intervening and correcting when something goes amiss. But you'll have better success if you actively reinforce good behavior - since your child prizes your approval above all else. Give him hugs when he's behaving. Praise him by saying things like, "I appreciate how you put your puzzle back on the shelf when you were done." Rule 2 - Prevent Problems Removing sharp objects, breakables, and enticing plants from your child's environment wards off potential mishaps. Also avoid situations that will cause trouble: trying to run one more errand when it's already past naptime, wheeling a hungry tyke past the candy-filled checkout counter. Another way to minimize the odds of a tussle: Offer helpful reminders before things go awry. Before every bath, for example, you might gently remind her, "The rule is, if you splash water outside of the tub, you have to come out." Rule 3 - Set Limits All kids need clear, consistent limits to define the boundaries of acceptable and unacceptable behavior. In fact, they crave them to feel secure in their world. At first, defining and enforcing limits may not seem necessary. What harm is it, you might ask yourself, if your 12-month-old pulls your books off the shelf or your 18-month-old neglects to say "please"? The answer: If you don't approve of a behavior now -- even if your child looks
comically cute as he's defying you -- you won't like it after a few dozen times, either. He's trying to figure out what's okay and what's not. It's your job to tell him. It's easy to excuse toddler transgressions by saying, "Oh, he's just a little guy" or "She won't understand if I say no." But toddlers are smarter than you may think they are. With your help and patience, they're capable of learning the difference between right and wrong. Rule 4 - Be Firm Doug says, "I'm good at saying no, but with my daughter, Taylor, who's 2, I always want to say yes. I'm tempted to spoil her, but I've learned that when you give in once, on, say, buying a balloon at the store, she'll want one every time." Certainly, indulgence has its place in parenthood. But over time, a lack of firmness tends to backfire. If you don't enforce limits, you deprive your child of understanding how you expect her to behave. Rather than making her feel liberated, the opposite occurs. She feels frightened and confused. If you're too lenient, your child is also apt to take advantage of you. She'll soon discover which buttons to push to get the response that she desires. And you can be sure she'll push them again and again. Better to make it clear that you're in charge -- not your child. Rule 5 - Be Realistic Otherwise, you set yourself up for failure. One-year-olds can barely sit still for 15 minutes, let alone for an hour at the table while the family eats. "We let Tiffany, who's 16 months old, wander around before a meal," says Ziette. Do increase your expectations as your child grows. For example, while a 12-month-old shouldn't be required to use "please" and "thank you," an 18-monthold with a 50-word vocabulary is capable of learning to say them. Rule 6 - Aim for Consistency Once you make a rule, enforce it. Inconsistencies confuse a learning child. If it was all right to dump sand out of the sandbox last week, why are you so mad about it now? Try to follow through on your rules in a predictable fashion. If you say that it will be time to leave the playground after your child goes down the slide two more times, then do so. Don't wait for him to make three more trips, or ten; the next time you're ready to leave after "two more times," you probably won't be taken seriously. Of course, it's impossible to be 100 percent consistent in all things, all the time. There's room for exceptions. You might let your child bounce on the sofa -- something ordinarily verboten -- when he's trapped inside on a rainy day, or allow her to eat her snack in the living room instead of the kitchen during a playdate with her pals. Explain why a deviation from the norm is special and just for that day. Continued Next Week

Liver cancer can affect anyone children and adults. We commonly believe liver failure is associated with alcoholics, but not so. Dr. Satish, General Physician at Gurgaons Columbia Asia Hospital explains in detail what is liver cancer, what are the causes of liver causes, symptoms of liver cancer, treatment and prevention of liver cancer. What is Liver Cancer? Dr. Satish elaborates what is liver cancer in simple words. These are malignant tumours which are primarily caused in the liver cells. It is often confused with liver metastases, which are cancers that originate in another organ and spreads to the liver. The most common liver cancer is hepatocellular carcinoma. Sometimes, a hepatocellular carcinoma can have another component called cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer). Cancers that arise from the blood vessels in the liver are called hemangioendotheliomas. Rarer forms of liver cancer include hepatoblastomas (common in children), sarcoma, etc., explains the doctor.
What are the causes of liver cancer? Common risk factors for liver cancer are: Cirrhosis Chronic hepatitis B, Hepatitis C Aflatoxin exposure Glycogen storage disease in children Diabetes What are the symptoms? Many times the liver cancer is recognised as an incidental finding during imaging or it may be seen as an abdominal mass, abdominal pain, jaundice, nausea or liver dysfunction. Other symptoms include anaemia, back pain, jaundice, itching, weight loss, unexplained fever, says Dr. Satish, hence it is important to get tested to avoid liver cancer. How do you prevent it? Dr. Satish lists out means for prevention of liver cancer, As Hepatitis B and C are the main causes of liver cancer, childhood vaccination against hepatitis B may reduce the risk of liver cancer in the future. In case of patients with cirrhosis alcohol consumption is to be avoided.
A new study has found that exercising can actually help people suffering from dementia boost their cognitive skills. For research purposes, Cochrane Collaboration conducted a methodical review of 8 exercise trials involving over 300 dementia patients, as reported. The findings showed that although
physical activity failed to lift patients' moods, it did help them carry out daily activities like rising from a chair. Dr. Laura Phipps of Alzheimer's Research UK said that though she can't assure that exercise will prevent dementia, evidence does suggest that it can help reduce the risk of the condition as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Will Boney Kapoor Be Thrown Out Of His Own Property By Subrata Roy?
Sridevis husband is under new financial troubles and it seems that the financial strain will result in his properties being taken away. making No Entry. Now, Sahara is under financial pressure and the company needs to pay SEBI loan. Thus, the Sahara chief has decided that they would mortgage Boney Kapoors property to the government, as the company has waited long enough for Boney to return the amount that he owed. Subhrata Roy personally called Boney and informed about this unfortunate step that he had to take. The Kapoor and the Roy families have been very close since a long time, but it seems the friendship has dried down owing to professionally unethical behaviour from the Senior Kapoor Sad. Sahara owner, Subrata Roy, has no other option other than taking over Boney Kapoors properties, which he mortgaged while borrowing Rs 85 crore from Sahara Motion Pictures. According to the grapevine, the movie producer is facing a new economic crunch. We all know that, in January 2013, Sandeep Bhargava replaced Boney Kapoor as CEO of Sahara Motion Pictures but apparently there is a bigger picture to the story. If rumours are to be believed, the eldest Kapoor had taken about Rs 85 crore from Sahara and mortgaged his property for the same. The amount rose to this figure slowly and steadily, since the time he was

Incarcerated Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt's wife Manyata is suffering from a heart and liver ailment and her current health condition is a matter of concern, her doctor said. "She has complained of chest pain and sudden weight loss. During tests we detected a large tumour growth on her liver," her cardiologist Ajay Chaughule said. Maanyata is also suffering from irregular heart beat and the tumourous growth is also causing concern, said Chaughule who is attached with Global Hospital, Mumbai, and specialises in heart and liver problems. Asked whether the condition was serious, Chaughule declined to comment, but expressed hope that she would recover. Though she had been advised to consider an angiography, Manyata opted for a second opinion with Chaughule. However, the decision making process on her further course of treatment is reportedly being prolonged in the absence of her husband Sanjay, who is serving his 42-month sentence in Yerawada Central Jail, Pune.
Manyata Is Suffering From Liver Deepika Open To Doing Small But Ailment Meaty Roles In Hollywood
This is believed to be the reason why Sanjay sought a parole and was granted the facility late Friday night, but it has evoked protests and opposition from various quarters. Home Minister R.R. Patil has sought a report from the concerned departments to ascertain whether the actor is eligible for a month's parole on grounds that Manyata is reportedly ill. An official said that police may also try to verify the nature of Manyata's illness before a final decision will be taken in the matter. Actress Deepika Padukone does not regret being unable to make her Hollywood debut with 'Fast and Furious 7' and says she is open to doing films in the West even if the role is small. Deepika was offered to be a part of 'Fast and Furious 7' movie, but she could not do it because of her commitments to the makers of 'Ram Leela'. "I don't regret it. I had to work out things for 'Ram Leela' here, I couldn't have left the process mid way, I had given my commitment here first. Looking at the way the film ('Ram Leela') has got response, I feel good as my hard work has paid off," Deepika told PTI in an interview. Though the actress could not make her entry into Hollywood, she is still open to doing films whenever the right offer comes up. "I would love to do a Hollywood film. The reason for me to do a Hollywood film is same as what I do here in Bollywood," she said. When asked if she would be ok doing a small role in a Hollywood film, Deepika said, "There is nothing like a small role. The role has to be of impact, this is what matters, the length of it (role) doesn't. A good actor can make a presence felt even in a short time." Deepika is basking in the success of her fourth consecutive hit this year - 'Ram Leela' - after 'Race 2', 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' and 'Chennai Express'. "It feels nice that all my films that released this year did really well. I have worked hard on all my films and it feels great when the films become successful and you get appreciation for your work," she said. "But if I had my way, I would have not let them release so close to each other, I would have spaced them out," she
Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor has frankly admitted that he lost his virginity at the age of 15 when he performed the act with his school time girl friend. Ranbir has made this confession in an interview with a magazine. On the other hand Salman Khan has claimed that he is still virgin at the age of 47. Love, sex and dhoka are no more a big thing for the Bollywood industry. There are many actors and actresses, who have been open about their relationship status. Actresses like Katrina Kaif claim that she is single till she gets married; Bipasha Basu claimed that the world will know when she will be in a relationship. Ranbir Kapoor, who charmed one and all with his debut film, has grabbed
eyeballs for his relationships with his co-stars. He was also in a steady relationship with Deepika for some time, but things didn't work out for the couple. The most eligible bachelor of Bollywood, Salman Khan, who too has a record of girlfriends and has dated popular actresses like Sangeeta Bijlani, Somy Ali, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Katrina Kaif. However, the actor shocked many when he let us in on a huge secret - that he's a virgin. Surprised? Well so was Karan Johar. "I am a virgin," claimed Salman. "I'm going to save myself for the one that I get married to," he insisted to a shocked Karan. After much news, Salman finally appeared on Karan Johar's much talked about chat show 'Koffee With Karan'.
pointed out. Deepika is touted as the Rs 600 crore heroine, going by the total collections of all the four films that released this year. 'Ram Leela' and 'Race 2' approximately earned Rs 100 crore each, 'Chennai Express' grossed Rs 226 crore and 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' made Rs 189 crore at the box office. "I value money as well as critical appreciation. I like to do films that have repeat value," she said. She would be seen next in Farah Khan's 'Happy New Year' and Homi Adjania's 'Finding Fanny Fernandes'. In 'Happy New Year', she will be teaming up with superstar Shah Rukh Khan for the third time. "I owe everything to Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khan as they were the ones who launched me in films with 'Om Shanti Om'. My equation with them has not changed. Farah and Shah Rukh both are still protective about me. There are times when I am scared of Farah," Deepika said. The film also stars Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood, Vivaan Shah and others. "It is so much fun doing the film as I am the only girl among the five guys. I don't feel I am shooting," Deepika said. For 'Finding Fanny...', Deepika is excited to team up again with noted actress Dimple Kapadia. She first worked with her in 'Cocktail'. "I used to stare at her. Today also she looks elegant...graceful. She creates a positive aura and I am extremely fond of her," she added. 'Finding Fanny...' is an EnglishKonkani short film, directed by Homi Adajania. It also stars Arjun Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur in prominent roles. Both the films will release next year.

There are many ways of removing facial hair. The method should be chosen according to quantity or thickness, location and rate of growth. Read on to find out more Temporary methods of facial hair removal Plucking
This method involves the use of tweezers and removes hair from the follicles. Therefore, re-growth takes time. Plucking is suitable for stray hairs on the chin, between and under the brows. It should not be used for hair on the upper lip. The area should be first wiped with cotton wool, soaked in a mild antiseptic solution. One should also take care not to pluck out hair from a mole, before consulting a doctor. Threading
An epilator is a small gadget for hair removal. Epilators for facial hair are different from the ones for body hair. The effect lasts for about 4 to 6 weeks. Epilators pull out the hair by the roots. It is said that the smallest hair can be removed with an epilator. There is some initial pain, which may decrease gradually. Electrolysis
It's the most common method of removing facial hair. The disadvantage is that the effect is temporary and the procedure has to be repeated periodically. It is useful for areas like the upper lip and the eyebrows. In fact, threading is done to shape the eyebrows. Frequent threading can cause skin irritations. On sensitive skins, there can be redness or a rash. Avoid threading on areas with eruptions, like pimples or acne. A zinc ointment or ice can be applied to soothe the skin. Waxing
Although this is said to be a permanent method of hair removal, re-growth can occur. In electrolysis, the diathermy method was common. It involves the use of fine needles, through which an electric current is passed. But now a new procedure is being used, known as transdermal electrolysis, in which needles are not used. Also, superfluous hair can be removed from larger areas. In the earlier method, needles were introduced into the hair follicle to cauterise the hair root. This checked re-growth. It is extremely important to make inquiries, as scarring can occur in the hands of an unskilled operator. Laser
Many beauty salons offer "katori" waxing for facial hair. Cold wax would be safer for the face. Waxing strips are available. However, large areas of the face should not be waxed. It would be

Krishna is one of Auckland City's new recruits as the Navy Blues prepare for a third successive appearance at the tournament. In an interview with FIFA.com, Krishna said making the switch from Waitakere to Auckland City was tough. The 26-year-old Siberia native from Labasa played a big part in Auckland's 1-0 surprise pre-season friendly win over A-League club Wellington Phoenix and has looked sharp so far. "I'm excited and really looking forward to playing in Morocco, it will be an amazing experience, Krishna said. Its my second time at the tournament and I'm hoping I can earn my place in the squad and compete well. The leaders of today must put forth building relationships for the good of the organizations before their personal highs. Khan said Mandela single handily eradicated injustice against blacks.
