Draw the tangent and normal at any point on the curve. 2. Draw the path traced by a moving point when its distance from the focus and fixed straight line is equal. Distance of focus from directrix is 40 mm. Draw the tangent and normal at any point on the curve. 3. Construct a hyperbola when the distance between focus and directrix is 40 mm. The eccentricity is 4/3. Draw the tangent and normal at any point on the curve. Cycloidal curves 1. A circle of diameter 40 mm rolls on a straight line without slipping. Draw the locus of point P on the circumference of the circle for 3/4th of its revolution. Draw the tangent and normal at any point on the curve. 2. Draw the path traced by a point on the circumference of the circle of diameter 40 mm which rolls inside another circle of diameter 200 mm without slipping. Draw the tangent and normal at any point on the curve. 3. Draw the path traced by a point on the circumference of the circle of diameter 50 mm which rolls over another circle of diameter 180 mm without slipping. Draw the tangent and normal at any point on the cycloid. Involutes 1. An inelastic string of length 120 mm is wound around a drum of diameter 30 mm. Draw the path traced by the end of the string when it is unwound from the drum. Also draw the tangent and normal at any point on the curve.

Scales 1. Construct a diagonal scale of R.F 1:3200000 to show kilometers and long enough to measure upto 400 km. Show distances of 257 km and 333 km on the scale. 2.Construct a diagonal scale to read up to 1/100th of a meter given R.F = 1/50 and to measure upto 7 m. Indicate a distance of 5.45 m. 3. Construct a vernier scale to read meters, decimeters and centimeters and long enough to measure upto 4m. R.F. of the scale is 1/20. Mark on the scale a distance of 2.28 m. 4. Construct a vernier scale to show readings of 1/10th of a meter when 3cm represents 10 m. Construct the scale to read upto 60 m and mark the distances of 35.3 m and 47.2 on your scale.

UNIT 2

Projection of points 1. The projections of the different points are shown in the figure. Define the position of the points in relation to the reference planes. The distances marked are in millimeters

Projection of straight lines 1. A line AB 65 mm long has its end A 20 mm above HP and 25 mm infront of VP. End B is 40 mm above HP and 65 mm infront of VP. Draw the projections of the line. Find its true and apparent inclinations with HP and VP. 2. The projections of a line measures 80 mm and in the top view and 70 mm in front view. The midpoint of the line is 45 mm infront of VP and 35 mm above HP. One end is 10 mm infront of VP and nearer to it. Draw the projections. Find the true length and true inclinations with reference planes. 3. The top view of a line CD has a length of 80 mm and makes 30o with horizontal. The end C is in VP and 52 mm above HP. The end D is in HP. Draw the projections of the line. Find the true length and true inclinations with HP and VP. Mark its traces on the two planes. 4. A line CD inclined at 25o to HP measures 80 mm in top view. End C is in the first quadrant and 25 mm and 15 mm from HP and VP respectively. End is at equal distances from both reference planes. Draw its projections, find true length and true inclinations with VP. Locate the traces.

5. A line AB 75 mm long. A is 50 mm infront of VP and 15 mm above HP. B is 15 mm infront of VP and is above HP. Top view of AB is 50 mm long. Find the length of front view and true inclinations.

Projection of planes 1. A circular lamina of 60 mm diameter rests on HP on a point 1 of its circumference. The lamina is inclined to HP such that the top view of it is an ellipse of minor axis 35 mm. The top view of the diameter through the point 1 makes an angle of 45o with VP. Draw the projections and determine the angle of plane made with the HP. 2. A thin rectangular plate of sides 60 mm x 30 mm has its shorter side in VP and inclined at 30o to HP. Project its top view if the front view is a square of 30 mm long sides. 3. A semi-circular lamina of diameter 64 mm diameter has its straight edge in VP and inclined at an angle of 45o to HP. The surface of the lamina makes an angle of 30o with VP. Draw its projections. 4. A square lamina PQRS of side 40 mm rests on ground on its corner P in such a way that the diagonal PR is inclined at 45o to the VP and apparently inclined at 30o to the VP. Draw its projections. 5. A pentagonal plate of side 30 mm is resting on HP on one of its corners with its surface inclined at 45o to HP. The side opposite to the resting corner is parallel to Vp and farther away from it. Draw its projections.
