The resource wood

Wood is one of the oldest materials for building and construction, it accompanies people through their whole life. Long traditions in handcraft and industry have created experiences for using the right wood in practical ways. Wood can be treated, screwed, glued, drilled, sawn, grooved, turned and carved with simple tools. Wood is a consumer good and a healthy construction material. Wood is the everyday materialization of absolute nature, an environmentally friendly product with an extremely positive eco-profile. Wood offers a great number of features: Different types of wood, habitat and age of the tree, heart wood or sap wood, stern wood or wood from branches have an extremely wide range of biological, chemical, technological and optic characteristics. Otherwise, the diversity of characteristics and optic also has lots of advantages: Consumers wishes and needs regarding the product can be properly satisfied. Stability and bearing capability of construction timber, durability of windows and exterior doors, colour and wood texture of furniture and interior fitting, hardness of parquet flooring or efficient production engineering and best product characteristics of cellulose and paper there is the right species for every concept of use. For the optimal construction and designing with wooden products material characteristics as density, stability, elasticity module, power of endurance, natural durability, permeability, content of extract substance, anatomic composition, cell dimensions, number of branches, fibre flow are important. An analysis of the requirements for the product and therefore the material wood makes the optimal choice for the right timber possible.
Fixation, greying, surface treatment, yellowing

For the fixation of wooden components, rust-free stainless steel screws are to be used best. The zinc coating can get hurt by zinc coated screws, this can lead to corrosion and therefore to discolouration of wood. Wood, full of tanning agent also reacts, e.g. douglas fir getting in contact with iron is discolouring darker. Wood used outside is constantly exposed to weather conditions. UV-radiation and rain work on the surface. The components of wood are therefore being chemically changed and eroded. In doing so, wood is discolouring outdoor in a natural way. By treating the surfaces with right coating, a relative protection against dampness and UV-radiation is given. To keep the optic and impression everlasting, wood must be coated regularly when applied outside at least twice a year. Wood being applied interior and not affected by weather conditions is yellowing in the course of time in a natural way.

Conditions of use for wood and wooden products

Wooden components life time can be extended extremely by using constructive wood protection. Without this protection, time of use can be affected strongly by local conditions (high environment dampness, permanent or partly contact with water, no ventilation). In contrast, well fitting, e.g. no earth contact, covering and more can extend the durability considerably. The following overview shows usage categories for wood and wooden products according to DIN EN 335-1.

Constructive wood protection extends useful life

Besides the chosen wood and natural durability of wood, structural measures have a great impact on durability. If wood is constantly exposed to high moisturisation for a longer time, it will get damaged by fungal infestation. Professional plannin of structural wood protection when building can prevent this. For constructions with standing and load bearing wood components, direct earth contact should be avoided outside. It is recommended to observe the minimum distance (ventilation) of 15 cm for the protection against splash water. Horizontal areas should be built with a decline, so the water can flow off Measures to extend durability of wood constructions:

Outdoor the use of beech is limited because of the moderate power of endurance respectively little natural durability.

By the effect of light or weather conditions douglas fir is getting darker to a silver grey patina. This change in colour can be suppressed by using wood and wpc oil (our range Outdoor wood). Colour differences can be blended with pigmented wood oils.

CE qualification
By using the CE-qualification the manufacturer confirms that the product to be sold complies with product special European guide lines. The CE-qualification is not a seal of quality but a sign of compliance with legal minimum requirements. Is there a four-digit number printed after the CE sign, this means the involvement of a common body in the ranking system for conformity. This CE-qualification was designed to help consumers find safe products (regarding compliance with Basic (security) requirements within the European market. If a product complies with one or several EU guide lines, the product has to be added the CE-qualification. Other signs or seals of quality are not allowed. This CE-qualification is precondition for placing goods for the first time on the market, regarding goods a CE-qualification is required for according to EU guide lines, this means in all member states of the European Union.
PEFC
PEFC (Programme of Endorsement of Forest Certification) is a strict controlled forest certification programme for overviewing sustainably farmed forests. PEFC so to say means a global forest protection organization. When buying a PEFC certificated product, consumers can be sure it comes from sustainably farmed and controlled forests. This means amongst others: there is not more wood felled than is growing again it is reforested in line with this a safe habitat for plants and animals is preserved guarantee of legal origin of round timber high working safety and standards for forest workers ensuring employees rights the rights for people being dependent on forest are ensured this way The international decisions made on the follow-up conference of the environment conference in Rio in 1992 are basis for the certification system of sustainable forest cultivation. Economy, ecology and social compatibility as well as documentation and improvement of sustainable forest cultivation are PEFCs first aim. In the same way independence and profitability are very important.
The PEFC certification system is worldwide approved. Furthermore there are just independent controllers working, which reliability is checked regularly.
Impregnation
Dip impregnation can be made in colours green or yellow, while the colour is just of control use. The process includes dipping the complete wood in a bath of wood preservative for the time of a few minutes or several hours. That creates edge protection, this means depth of impression in the size of millimeters. Furthermore there is also the so called short dipping, which means the wood is just put for seconds or minutes in wood preservative The depths of impression when short dipping are in the same size as coating, this means just the surface is protected without defined depth of impression. For the dipping procedure a major amount of preservatives and suitable equipment is necessary, therefore it is not practical for smaller works. It is mostly used for the treatment of wood components such as shuttering, construction wood, windows and doors. Often additional colour pigments in green or yellow are used, while the colour just has a control effect. These colours are not weatherproof. The impregnations weather resistance comes from fixation of salt solution on wood. Therefore freshly impregnated wood must be protected from rain for some days. The wood preservative itself is a generally water-based salt concentrate without colour or coloured later. It contains biocidal components. Dip impregnation is just possible at a moisture content of less than 50 %. It is used preventively for roofed wood or outdoor without earth contact and is effective against wood-destroying funguses or insects. Appropriate storage of wood is working preventively against blueness and mould. The dip impregnated wood can be coated with every colour after drying.

Sales and Delivery Terms for Rettenmeier Holzindustrie Wilburgstetten GmbH (Seller) 1
1. General These sales and delivery terms (the Terms) apply exclusively to merchants, legal persons, public law entities, and legal special assets. They are an integral part of all of the Sellers offers and contracts for the delivery of products and performance of services in both ongoing and future business relationships. Legal acts relating to transactions with wood materials supplement these conditions to the extent that they do not contradict these Terms. Deviating agreements and terms, especially purchasing terms, are binding only upon confirmation by the Seller. If two letters of confirmation with contradictory terms pass each other in correspondence, the Sellers letter shall prevail. The Seller shall collect, process, and storage personal data only to the extent necessary to perform the respective contract. 2. Offers shall be non-binding. Contractual offers may be accepted by the Seller within four weeks from receipt. The right to interim sale to third parties is reserved at all times. All agreements are subject to correct and complete deliveries by the Sellers suppliers. All verbal agreements require the Sellers immediate written confirmation. The same shall apply to contracts concluded by the Sellers employees or sales agents. Telegraphic, telephone-based, or verbal offers shall be valid only to the extent that they correspond with the offer confirmed in writing. The foregoing terms shall not apply to stipulations which are agreed upon after conclusion of the respective contract. 3. Unless otherwise agreed upon individually in writing, pricing terms are ex warehouse or ex Sellers place of shipment, respectively, excluding packaging, protective boards and underlying boards, freight, unloading charges, and, if applicable, any agreed assembly. Such items shall be invoiced separately. The Sellers price list which is valid on the respective day shall be applicable. All prices are net excluding value added sales tax, if any. When delivering to a foreign country, the Seller shall not be responsible for any applicable taxes or charges. 4. Delivery dates shall be agreed upon by the parties separately. Military mobilization, war, operational interruptions which adversely may effect production or supplies, strikes, lock-outs, and other acts of God shall entitle the Seller to delay the delivery until the respective obstacle will have been removed or is no more existing, or, if delivery becomes entirely impossible, to refrain completely from delivery. When delivering to a foreign country, the Seller shall not be responsible for any unforeseeable official import or export limitations. Four weeks after the Seller misses a non-binding delivery date or a non-binding delivery deadline, the Buyer may demand in writing that the Seller shall be required to effect the corresponding deliveries within a reasonable deadline. After fruitless elapse of such deadline, the Seller shall be in default. Any legal consequences shall be based on applicable statutory laws and these Terms, especially item 7 hereof. 5. Place of performance for delivery shall be the Sellers place of business or, at the Sellers option, the place of delivery; place of performance for payment is the Sellers place of business. Deliveries made ex place of destination of Buyer or ex destination designated by Buyer are conditional upon the existence of a road suitable for heavy commercial trucks. Unloading shall always be performed without delay by the Buyer and at its costs. Deliveries are at Buyers risk also in the event when freight cost are borne by the Seller. Transportation insurance shall only be obtained at the Buyers cost if explicitly requested by the Buyer. When deliveries are made ex delivery place of destination, the Buyer or recipient shall prepay the respective undiscounted freight charges upon request of the Seller. 6. In the event of Buyers default of acceptance, the Seller shall have the option of either withdrawing from the respective supply contract after the fruitless elapse of a reasonable deadline set by the Seller, or to proceed with a covering sale, or to insist upon performance. 7. Warranty for the Sellers goods and services shall be assumed in accordance with the following terms. The Seller shall assume unlimited liability in accordance with the respective applicable mandatory statutory laws to the extent that the Seller or its vicarious agent has violated a contractual obligation in an intentional or grossly negligent manner, or to the extent that life, limb, or health has been damaged, or to the extent that the Seller has explicitly assumed a corresponding guarantee. Liability for slight negligence shall be excluded unless an essential contractual obligation has been violated. In this case, liability shall be limited in amount to damages that are typical and foreseeable for the type of contract concerned. These liability limitations shall also be applicable to the extent that third party recourse claims are brought against the Seller in its role as supplier. The foregoing limitations of liability are not applicable to claims made in accordance with the Latvian consumer rights protection law. Unavoidable and natural board shrinkage caused by drying shall not be considered a defect. 8. Complaints based on recognizable defects shall be reported immediately after their detection. To this end, products shall be inspected immediately after delivery. If a defect of hidden nature becomes apparent only at a later stage, the respective notification shall then be made immediately after discovery. If no written complaint is submitted to the Seller, then the respective delivery shall be regarded as accepted, unless the defect was not detectable. If damages incurred during transportation are found upon arrival of the goods, a written confirmation which shall serve as documentation for a subsequent damage claim to be filed against the freight forwarding company, must be obtained from the said company prior to any unloading of the respective delivery. The same shall apply when goods are transported by ship or rail. 9. Payments are to be made without any deductions within 30 days from the date when the respective shipment has been made available for shipment at the place of storage. The payment of the purchase price shall be due without requiring special further written notice at the date deriving from the invoice date and the payment terms granted to the Buyer, in the event of non-payment upon such date, the consequences of default shall take effect. In the event of default in payment, the amount owed shall bear interest at a rate of 8 percentage points above the base interest rate of the Bank of Latvia applicable at that time. The Buyer shall not be entitled to any counterclaims, including those pertaining to other transactions of the Buyer, or to any off-set of payments with claims deriving from the same contractual relationship, unless such counter-claims are either finally assessed by a competent court or are not disputed by the Seller. If, after conclusion of the respective contract, the Seller becomes aware of any facts or conditions for which the Buyer is responsible and which may negatively effect its financial soundness (especially in the event of default in payment), the Seller shall be entitled to demand advance payments and to retain these. In addition hereto, the Seller has the right to declare all outstanding payments of the Seller immediately due and payable. If no payment is received from the Seller after fixing of a corresponding deadline by the Seller and the invoiced goods are ready for shipment, such goods shall be held in storage at the Buyers expense. Costs for placing the goods in storage, warehouse rent, and fire insurance costs may be charged to the Buyer in this event. The Seller shall not be obligated to obtain insurance for such goods. The Buyer shall be entitled to prove to the Seller that no damage or a lesser damage has incurred with respect to any damage claims raised by the Seller. In the event no payment is made after the Buyer has been notified in writing and a corresponding deadline has elapsed fruitlessly for goods ready to be shipped, the Seller shall have the right to then withdraw from the respective contracts. To the extent that goods shipped to the Buyer are still available, the Seller shall be entitled to immediately claim those back or to recollect those at the Buyers expense either itself or by duly authorized representatives. Further, the Seller may demand at the time of entering into the respective contract, in addition to advance payments, additional securities such as bank guarantees for the purpose of securing its payment claims and its property.

10.a) The goods shall be delivered in accordance with the terms of the Latvian Civil Code and under the following additional terms. b) Seller shall retain title to all goods delivered to the Buyer until full payment of all of the Sellers claims against the Buyer (hereinafter the Retention Goods), including claims which arise in the future and claims from other transactions, including any open current account balance, to the extent that such balance is recognized and accepted by the Buyer. c) The Buyer shall solely be entitled to resell or otherwise dispose of the Retention Goods in the course of its normal business upon condition that the Buyers claims (invoiced amount including applicable value added sales tax, if any) from the resale of the Retention Goods shall be assigned to the Seller and that this will occur regardless of whether the Retention Goods were resold without processing or after processing and whether they were connected or mixed with other objects, and whether they were resold to one or several buyers. The so-assigned claims shall serve as security for the Seller, however limited to the value of the corresponding Retention Goods. An assignment shall however be excluded in the event of a resale in the course of actual current accounts transactions. d) In the event that the Buyer sells the Retention Goods together with other goods that do not belong to the Seller, whether without or after conversion, then the assignment of the purchase-price shall apply only in the amount equal to the value of the respective Retention Goods. At the request of the Seller, the Buyer shall store the Retention Goods separately and equally process and sell them separately from other goods. e) The Buyer shall remain entitled, despite any assignment, to collect the corresponding claims from the resale to its customers. Irrespective of the foregoing, the Sellers collection right shall remain unaffected thereof. However, the Seller undertakes not to collect the claims as long as the Buyer properly fulfills its payment obligations. In the event of any payment default on part of the Buyer or the initiating of insolvency proceedings, the Buyer shall immediately inform the Seller of the debtors of the assigned claims and notify the debtors of the respective assignment and instruct them to effect payments only to the Seller. f) The Buyer also cedes to the Seller any liens and security rights and any claims to which the Buyer may be entitled vis--vis its customers and authorizes the Seller to assert these claims and rights in its own name and for its own account in the amount of the respective existing claim that has arisen in accordance with the foregoing terms. g) The Buyer shall not be authorized to assign or pledge to a third party its claims pertaining to the resale of the Retention Goods in their original or processed condition. h) If the Buyer has transferred or shall transfer title of its existing inventory in whole or in part as security for a third party, then the Buyers intention to transfer such title shall exclude Retention Goods in their original or processed condition. i) The Buyer shall insure the Retention Goods regardless whether processed or not against fire and theft as third party property and shall provide adequate proof hereof to the Seller at the latters request. The Retention Goods shall be handled with proper and due care. The Buyer hereby irrevocably assigns to the Seller all of the said insurance claims as long as its retention of title rights exist which derive from the terms set forth in this item 10. j) The Seller shall be immediately notified in writing by the Buyer of any third-party claims and acts which relate to the Retention Goods in their original or processed condition or to the assigned claims by providing the Seller in writing with the name and correct address of such third party. k) In the event the Buyer encounters any difficulties with respect to its payment obligations, it shall only be entitled to dispose of the Retention Goods with the prior written approval of the Seller. l) The Sellers title retention rights shall be conditional in that upon fulfillment of all payment claims of the Seller pertaining to the business relationship between the parties, the title of the Retention Goods shall be transferred without any further requirements subsequently to the Buyer who shall then also become the owner of all claims which had been assigned to the Seller before. 11. The laws of the Republic of Latvia shall exclusively apply to these terms. For contracts with merchants, legal persons, public law entities or special legal assets, or foreigners having no operating sites in Latvia, the place of venue shall be the Sellers place of business. 12. These terms represent the entire stipulations the Buyer and the Seller have entered into. Additional or supplementary verbal or written agreements do not exist. Counter-evidence shall not be excluded hereby. If one or several clauses of these terms should be or become ineffective, this shall not affect the validity of the remaining clauses. The parties shall then replace the invalid term with a legally valid term whose contents come as close as possible to the economic purpose originally intended and pursued with the invalid term, if the parties had been aware of the invalidity of the said term.
