2013 Corporate Fast Guidelines, Calendar and Soup Recipe

"Announce a time of fasting; call the people together for a solemn meeting. Bring the leaders and all the people into the Temple of the LORD your God, and cry out to him there." Joel l: 14 On Wednesday, December 26th, Man 0' War Church of God fellowship will begin a week of preparation for a 21-Day fast. This is important for those who intend to do a complete fast for the 21 days. The actual FAST will begin at sundown on January 1st, and end at sundown on January 21st. For those planning an extended FAST, I recommend the pre-FAST diet outlined later in this bulletin. It is designed to help prepare you mentally, physically and spiritually for the FAST. I also recommend that you purchase and read Bob Rodgers book, The 21 Day Fast. Jentezen Franklin, a pastor who has led his congregation in many 21Day fasts says, "The type of fast you choose is between you and God. He will honor your best sacrifice. You may want to include a combination of fasts. For example, you may want to participate in a Full Fast for 1-3 days and then continue with a Daniel Fast for the remainder of your time of consecration. Before beginning any type of fast, consult your physician. " "Is not this the fast that I have chosen to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? " - Isaiah 58:6

Fasting Tips
1. Headaches, bad breath, and run down feelings are signs that the fast is working. During a time of fasting the body purifies itself, feeding off of impurities and pollutants in the body. After approximately three days the headaches begin to cease and after approximately five days hunger also stops. 2. Fasting win not impair your health. On the contrary, fasting throughout history has been a prescribed method for healing. Animals cease to eat, as God instinctively ordained, when they become ill. Hippocrates was an outstanding physician in his time. He is called the "father of modern medicine." He set standards followed by doctors today caned the Hippocratic Oath. Hippocrates taught his students to rely on diet and exercise instead of drugs. He personally fasted often. Moreover, he advised people to only eat one meal a day. 3. Fasting will increase your faith. The same member with whom you speak the word of faith is the same member with which you eat. That is the mouth (Romans 10:8-10). Faith must be released out of the mouth. Fasting and faith are first cousins. They are related. The tongue speaks faith and eats food. Some unbelief cannot be broken without fasting. Each day that you fast, your faith is increased. 4. Drink plenty of fluids. Bottled mineral water should be taken in large quantities, before and during the fast. This will help flush poisons and impurities out of your system. Approximately one gallon a day should be use in the cleansing process. 5. The hardest day of fasting is day one. The second hardest day is day two. It does not get harder, but it actually gets easier. Your body becomes purified of poisons and toxins. When you feel tired there is poison in your system. You need to use regular methods of colon cleansing. 6. Fasting strengthens your inner will. James says, "A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. Let not that man think that he will receive anything from the Lord." (James 1:7-8) Your becoming hungry is not a reason to break a fast. The only reasons you should break a fast are for medical reasons or if God has dealt with you that it is time to break the fast. You will not starve to death by fasting.

7. During the fast, focus on the Word of God. Most of the direction that God speaks to His people comes through the revelation of His word. When Jesus fasted, He was tempted by the devil, but in every case He used the Word of God to overcome. Without exception God has spoken to me through the scriptures each time I have fasted. When you become hungry, if you will read from the Word of God, you will be satisfied of physical hunger. 8. During a fast your prayers need to be specific. I encourage you to write down your greatest needs and pray specifically over each need during this time of fasting. As God impresses you with direction and guidance, jot down what God speaks. 9. The victory often comes after the fast is over. When Jesus fasted, He was tempted by the devil. The power of the Holy Spirit came upon Christ after the fast. "And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee and news of Him went through all the surrounding regions" (Luke 4: 14). 10. Wisdom should be used in breaking the fast. There have been reported cases where people have fasted for long periods of time and have broken their fast with meat and other foods hard to digest. This lack of wisdom has cost some people their lives. I suggest that you not eat meat and other hard to digest foods the first few days after a fast. Instead, eat foods which are very easy to digest. The sooner the first meal passes through the body, the more effect it has as it carries out poisons collected in the intestines and stomach. The best laxative foods for a fast are fresh, sweet fruits, such as grapes, cherries, or raw vegetables. If you experience backaches during fasting, it is probably your kidneys and not your back at all. You need much more water when you fast. Drink more water and the pain will go away. Of course, if the pain does not go away, consult your physician. Set aside this time of fasting in dedication to the Lord. Our purpose is to draw close to Him and receive His guidance. He will help you as you 'commit each day unto Him and pray.

Pre-fast Diet
Below is a pre-fasting diet which will help you prepare your body for a long fast. It not only cleanses the body from toxins, but also stimulates metabolism of your body. You will probably lose seven to twelve pounds in one week, depending on your present body weight.

A special soup:
This soup will be an important part of your pre-fast preparation. Follow the instructions closely for best results. Ingredients: 6 large green onions, (scallions - but we used regular onions), 2 green peppers, 1 or 2 large cans of tomatoes, 1 bunch of celery, I large head of cabbage, I package of Lipton Onion Soup Mix. Season with salt, pepper, curry, parsley, etc., or use 6 bouillon cubes, if desired. (Note: Half of this recipe was made and used according to following instructions by two people for four days. We kept it continually hot in a crock pot.) Cut vegetables in small to medium pieces and cover with water. Boil fast for ten minutes. Reduce to simmer and continue cooking until vegetables are tender. This can be eaten anytime you are hungry. Eat as much as you want, whenever you want at any time of the day. This soup will not add calories; the more you eat, the more you lose. If eaten alone for indefinite periods, you would suffer malnutrition. Fill a thermos in the morning if you will be away during day. Page 2 of 4 Pages

Day One. Your first day should consist of all the fruit you want, except bananas. Cantaloupes and watermelons are lower in calories than most fruits. Eat only your soup and fruits the first day. For drinks unsweetened tea, cranberry juice, or water. Day Two. Today, eat until you are stuffed with all the fresh, raw, or cooked vegetables of your choice. Try to eat green, leafy vegetables and stay away from dry beans, peas, and corn. Eat all the vegetables you want along with your soup. At dinner time on this day, reward yourself with a big baked potato and butter. Eat all the soup you want this day, but don't eat fruits. Day Three. Mix day one and day two. Eat all the soup, fruit, and vegetables you want. You CANNOT have a baked potato today. IF YOU HAVE EATEN AS ABOVE FOR THREE DAYS AND HAVE NOT CHEATED, YOU WILL FIND THAT YOU WILL HAVE LOST FIVE TO SEVEN POUNDS. Day Four. Eat as many as eight bananas and drink as many glasses of skimmed milk as you can on this day along with your soup. Bananas are high in calories and so is the milk, but on this particular day of our diet your body will need the potassium and the carbohydrates, proteins and calcium to lessen your craving for sweets. Day Five. You may have 10-20 ounces of Beef and tomatoes (or salad) on this day. Try to drink as many as 6-8 glasses of water this day to wash away the uric acid in your body. Eat your soup at least once today day. Day Six. Eat to your heart's content of beef and vegetables today. You can even have two or three steaks if you like with green, leafy vegetables but no baked potatoes. Be sure to eat soup at least once this day. Day Seven. Brown rice, unsweetened fruit juices and vegetables. Again, stuff, stuff, stuff yourself. Be sure to eat soup at least once today. BY THE END OF THE SEVENTH DAY, IF YOU HAVE NOT CHEATED ON THE DIET, YOU WILL FIND THAT YOU HAVE LOST 10-17 POUNDS. IF YOU HAVE LOST MORE THAN 15 POUNDS, STAY OFF THE DIET FOR TWO DAYS BEFORE RESUMING. This seven day eating plan can be used as often as you like. As a matter of fact, if correctly followed, it will clean your system of impurities and give you a feeling of well-being as never before. After only days of this process, you will begin to feel lighter, at least 10 and possibly 17 pounds, and have an abundance of energy. Note: This diet does not lend itself to drinking any alcoholic beverages at any time because of the removal of fat buildups in your system. Because everyone's digestive system is different, this diet will affect everyone differently.

Guidelines for daily prayer during the week of preparation

1. Intentionally set aside a few minutes each day to just think about God 2. When you have more than just a minute or two to pray, read an encouraging verse from the Bible or passage from a good devotional book to lift your faith. 3. Prepare a written list of your most urgent and desperate needs. Be specific in your need but avoid the tendency to tell God how to do His work. Remember to pray for the needs of others. Pray specifically for those who have hurt you. 4. Pray out loud in your normal speaking voice, tone and volume 5. Pray throughout the day in brief prayers - prayer snacks. 6. Prayer includes praise, thanksgiving, and asking God for what you need. Remember to do all three. 7. Believe that God hears you and that He will answer. 8. Never use negative thoughts or doubt-filled conversation in prayer. 9. Always ask for God's will to be done in every matter. God's will is always best and in the end - if different than what you think you need - better. Resolve that you will accept and receive His will. Trust Him. 10. Find a place to pray where you can be alone with God, away from other people, the television, radio, and other distractions. Those planning a first time extended fast of 7 days or more would be well advised to obtain Dr. Rodgers book, "The 21 Day FAST. You can order online at www.worldprayercenter.org

Cabbage Soup Recipe

- 6 large green onions - 2 green peppers - 1 or 2 cans of tomatoes (diced or whole) - 3 carrots - 1 container (10 oz. or so) Mushrooms - 1 bunch celery - 1/2 head cabbage - 1 package Lipton soup mix - 1 or 2 cubes bouillon (optional) - 1 48oz can V8 juice (optional) Season to taste with salt, pepper, parsley, garlic powder, etc.

Directions:
1. Slice green onions, put in pot and start to saut with cooking spray. 2. Cut green pepper stem end off and cut in half, take seeds and membrane out. Cut the green pepper into bite size pieces and put in pot. 3. Take the outer leafs layers off the cabbage, cut into bite size pieces, put in pot. 4. Clean carrots cut into bite size pieces, put in pot. 5. Slice mushrooms into thick slices (otherwise they will disappear in the soup), put in pot. 6. If you would like a spicy soup, add a small amount of cayenne pepper (red pepper) now (1/3 teaspoon is quite a bit as the soup will get spicier as it cooks further). 7. You can use beef or chicken bouillon cubes for seasonings. They have all the salt and flavors you will need. 8. Use about 12 cups of water (or 8 cups and the V8 juice), cover and put heat on low. Let soup cook for a long time (two hours works well). 9. Season to taste with salt and pepper. 10. Eat all the soup you want, whenever you want for the next 7 days.
