Florida's oil reserve is untapped.

If we are able to utilize Florida's oil resourse we are looking at an economic gain that is going boost profit margins in the US and reduce travel costs for all Americans. Up until the B !il Spill" drilling for oil in the #ulf of $e%ico" or Alaska was our simple solution to the rise in oil costs due to the war in Ira& and Afghanistan. 'he riots in (airo" )g*pt and the &uagmire in +*bia prove it is an unsettled region that shows it isn't going to be resolved for &uite some time. ,e need to get hold of our market and stablize our econom*. 'his is going to be difficult with the recent spill so fresh in our minds.

In a reaction to the Interior -epartments plan for drilling in the #ulf of $e%ico" congressman (liff Stearns said .I am continuing m* work with other members" #overnor Bush" and (hairman ombo of the /esources (ommittee on a workable plan that would give Florida permanent control over its offshore resources". 'his was in an effort to allow Florida to prevent new drilling of its coasts.

Stearns' !pening /emarks at )nerg* 0 !versight" 1earing on (ombating the B !il Spill .officials in +ouisiana are still waiting for the federal government to provide feet and boom to approve an emergen* permit to implement their plan to dredge and build a new barrier island to prevent even more oil from reaching their marshes and wetlands. $r. chairman" Saudi Arabia had a oil spill in the #ulf it was man* times this and the* used their ships and barges to vacume up the spill" in fact there's man* counties around the world have volunteered with the state department including (anada" and France" and #erman* and others United 2ingdom to help with the idea of provinding technical e%pertise booms chemical dispersments" oil pumps skimmers" and wildlife treatment and none of that has been accepted b* this administration the vast ma3orit* of assistance has not been utilized the blood fact is the administration is on the watch its their responsibilit* ever*bod* knew the $inerals $anagement Service was not effective there have been so man* inspecters reports on this it should have been reformed it should have been done on the presidents watch certainl* he has responsibilit* for this....

resident !bama asked for a rapid response in +ouisiana" Alabama" as well as Florida in a press conference in 4ew !rleans. .here in +ouisiana where the oil has hit most rapidl* there are still areas where for e%ample the ma*or here was talking to fisherman who want to build up some barriers near estuaries" and areas that are particularl* vulnerable" 'had Allen is going to be following up with each of the parrish presidents in terms of figuring out whats going on.... .!ne of the things we have done to make sure that organizational things are working the wa* the* should is we now have a (oast #aurd official who is stationed with each parrish president and now a B representative who is stationed with each parrish president so that the* have direct access to making sure that an* information an* problems the*'ve got are being shot up to 'had and he can respond &uickl*.... resident !bama's response was more than ample" he did his best to coordinate the clean up efforts. 'he sight of seabirds covered in oil and volunteers walking the shoreline

in muckboots is concrete evidence of the environmental cost. Stearns &uestioning B chairman and president .lets take a worse case scenario" if the wind doesnt have an impact it is basicl* the current" is there a worse case scenario where it could hit the Florida coast5. 'he first thing we need to do is repair Florida's coast. 'he oil spill did in fact hit ensacola and the anhandle. ,e are fortunate that it hasn't got into the #ulfstream current. If the blob of oil drifting out there in the #ulf ever reached the $ar&uesas or the -r* 'ortugas and gets draw in to Florida Ba* or gets to the Atlantic coast the environmental impact is going to take a toll on one of the most fragile ecos*stems in the world" the coral reef and its s*mbiant estuar*" the )verglades. If we are ever going to drill for oil on the Florida coast we need to plan ahead if there ever is another spill. 'he topic of drilling now is somewhat out of scope since the -eepwater 1orizon spill" and deemed a hazard. If we look at the economic impact and the cost of gas now" it might get us to be more openminded about the idea of rigs on the Florida coast. if we have the technolog* and are conscious of the environment i think drilling in the gulf of me%ico is a good idea and it will create 3obs and allow americans to travel more and even lower the cost of shipping on U S and F)- )F ground freight and a surplus of oil gives us the chance to sell oil and gas elsewhere in our region like south america a sure fi% for the economic factor of this topic +ast )dit6 < *ear" 7 months ago b* 9(lark. /) +: ;U!') /e6 utilizing Florida's oil resourse in the #ulf < *ear" 7 months ago ><7<< partha !FF+I4) $edha $aharishi osts6 @AB 2arma6 ?
