FOREWORD
HE light operetta music of Victor Herbert, George Gershwin, Vincent Youmans, and others is truly America.n. Its lilting melody, piquant harmony, and sparkling rhythm have an irresistible appeal to the American public. The young generation of American piano students should be as well acquainted with its musical heritage as it is taught to be with the classics. The purpose of these arrangements and adaptations is a sincere endeavor to make l i t t l e piano classics of melodies which are imperishable. They have been given a pianistic treatment that brings out the beauty of the music and the richness of the piano with a minimum of technical effort. They have been carefully fingered and phrased, and occasional technical suggestions and pedal hints have been added. Accordingly they will serve the double purpose of sustaining the young and adult pianist's interest and developing his technical powers. Teachers may therefore well dispense with the warning that the playing of "popular" music is net good for one's technic. , These adaptations are dedicated to all young and adult pianists of America with the purpose of letting them share in the pleasure which the music of Herbert, Gershwin, and others has given to millions of Americans.

In projecting this special series of piano works, we are not unmindful of the teaching problems involved in each individual publication. For both teacher and student, we are listing therefore the technical considerations of this particular work. 1) 2) 3) 4) Key of A-flat Major Crossing of Hands Light Staccato Chords Theme in alternate thumbs
