To: Jennie Archer From: Michael Splonskowski Date: 11/15/2013 Subject: Independent Project Proposal Dear Jennie, This

memo is to inform you of the plan I have in mind for my independent project. You will see that I have included all the most important information which will be the guide for the project, including the formal statement of my proposal, my project objectives, the methods by which I will be formulating the contents of the project, the project timeline, and the literary works I will be using for information. Proposal My independent project will be to compile a brochure highlighting the difference between an appraisal and an assessment. It will be a one page brochure with three panels, complete with graphics and characters for readability. I will be focusing on the following subjects: Description of an Appraisal Description of a Fee or Bank Appraisal Description of an Assessment Use of Fee Appraisal Use of Assessment I will be writing on each of these topics for the main part of the brochure and will keep the content as simple and informative as possible, keeping the target readers in mind. The content will try to avoid technical jargon, and use concepts that are easy to understand for any reader, ensuring it will be universally usable. I will be using the MLA reference formatting for the brochure, and will not be able to include references in the content. I have included the reference page at the end of this memo. The visual aspect of the project will be fulfilled by the formatting of the brochure and the graphics I will be using. After I assemble the written portion of the content, I will then add graphics to make the brochure attractive and also easy to read. This will fulfill the written aspect and the visual aspect of the project. Objective I am an appraiser in an assessment office. The job that I do is to appraise properties for their value on the open market. This is often misunderstood by the taxpayers, as well as their being confusion in regards to the nature and purpose of my role. I hope to put this brochure together as a way to inform the taxpayers in a quick and simple way about my role, which would hopefully help people to understand how the system works. I believe that if the taxpayer is more knowledgeable, they will make better and stronger citizens. When I am done with this project I hope to: Be a better student by having learned organization and planning Be a better employee by learning to plan well my projects and lay them out in a manner that is helpful to my employer Be able to communicate about my role better with anyone I meet.

Methods I will be taking the following steps to finish the project in a timely manner: 1. Conduct research regarding appraisal literature and brochure websites to assemble information and the brochure. 2. Decide what information will best serve the purpose of the objective. 3. Assemble the information into the format of the brochure. 4. Decide which graphics to include which will enhance the appearance and readability of the project. 5. Submit Progress Report on Nov. 27. 6. Proofread and correct any mistakes. 7. Submit Final Project on Dec. 4. 8. Submit Reflection Memo on Dec. 6 Timeline The following chart shows how I will be progressing over time with the project.
