2. About what we are going to Look Introduction

Here we are going to have a little introduction on this managerial report. It is said that if theres one management expert who is synonymous with the term high-performance organization, it is Jim Collins, who has spent the past 20 years trying to understand how some companies are able to sustain superlative performance. Collins argues that the key ingredient that allows a company to become great is having a level 5 leader: an executive in whom genuine personal humility blends with intense professional will. In this this managerial report we are going to discuss this statement with reference to leadership role of Steve Job. And also in this managerial report we are going to discuss the need for online leadership for contemporary world with adequate examples. And also it is said that the global landscape of the future will need creativity and adaptability- two qualities not traditionally used to describe large public companies. Sustainability can be both a lens to focus minds on innovation challenges and opportunities, and a place where business and society come together to solve complex problems. So in this managerial report we are going to discuss the role of leader in bringing up innovation for the successful achievement of organizational goals.

Question: 1
Steve jobs who was the co-founder, chairman and CEO of the Apple Inc. and Pixar Animation Studio is considered as a greatest entrepreneur, marketer and inventor in the American business history. According to the global business magazine Fortune in March, 2012, Steve Job is the greatest entrepreneur of our time. Furthermore in November, 2010 Forbes magazine ranked Steve Jobs as the 17th most powerful person in the world. With the incomparable leadership of the Steve Jobs, Apple Inc. and Pixar Animation Studio marked a turning point of the business world by becoming to the highest ranks in profitability, creativity and public recognition. In year 2013, according to a study of the top 100 brands by Interbrand Corp, Apple is in the first in the list by out seating the Coca-Cola. Not only the Apple but Pixar Animation Studio or simply Pixar has released 13 feature films with 210 awards won and 211 awards nominated by emphasizing the originality of the leadership ability of the world well known role model called Steve Jobs. The book From Good to Great by business consultant Jim Collins which was published based on his one of research introduces the concept of level 5 leadership, a great leadership which is beyond the good leadership. Level 5 leader possess all the characteristics which should be achieved by minor level leaders. In brief level 5 leader is a highly capable individual, contributing team member, competent manager, Effective leader and finally a great leader who has the unique blend of humility and will that required for true greatness. They own up to the mistake first but take the credits for success at last. Following characteristics can be seen from a level 5 leader. Developed humility Asking for help Taking responsibility Developed discipline Finding the right people Leading with passion

Developed Humility:According to the Jim Collins leadership concept, humbleness is the basic quality of a level 5 leader. All the other qualities are developed based on humility. Humble people spend a simple life style both in the personal and professional life. Humble leaders produce extremely superb results but they do not expect personal public adulation and not boastful. Each and every action they take is behalf of the whole organization but not for him. Level 5 leaders are ready to sacrifice his personal desires sake of the whole organization.

When we consider the Steve Jobs life, people around him introduces Steve Jobs as a humble person. Some of them are his well-known competitors. He wasnt trying to be rich. He wasnt trying to be famous. He wasnt trying to be powerful. He was obsessed with the creative process and building something that was beautiful. -Oracle CEO Larry Ellison Steve Jobs visited frequently to a restaurant which was owned by the former Googles head chef Ayres. Ayres has commented on Steves humbleness based on the experience at his restaurant with Steve. "[Jobs] would walk in and it would be like Moses parting the Red Sea," Ayers said. "He would see his table was occupied and he'd go and sit down and relax. People knew and they were like 'I'll move,' but he was a very humble person in terms of that. He didn't ask people to move or anything, he waited." "Only one time did we have a guest come over and approach him at his table, and it was a little boy," Ayers said. "He wanted his autograph and Steve was very obliging to him and very nice." In year 1976 Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak initially started to produce Apple computers at the garage of the Steves parents home. It was a simple and safe start-up which made a more bright future for the Apple Inc. Steve considered mostly on producing innovative, quality product but not the popularity. Primary believe of his mind was, popularity is not to follow up but to let popularity to follow them. In 1985 Jobs was fired from Apple by Companys chief executive officer (CEO) John Sculley and the board. He was fired from the company which was formed and made highly success by him. It could collapse his whole life if he was not a humble person. He started another company called NeXT and then PIXAR and try to achieve his objective to create something wonderful for the world but not to achieve only the credit or popularity. Even though Steve was fired from the Apple Inc. He again joined with it in year 1995. At the time he joined, Apple was facing possible bankruptcy and had lost consumer confidence. At that time he turned to his competitor Microsoft Asking for help even though it could harm his reputation as a well-known entrepreneur in the world. That kind of move cannot be expected from a personality not known for humility. But Steve dedicated for the success of the company over his personal image. Steve Jobs had a very small house with simple facilities which emphasized he never wished to have a luxurious life style even though it is simple to achieve as the most powerful CEO in a most profitable company in the world. He had enough chances to spend a highly luxurious personal life by spending billions of dollars which can be used for the sake of the company; but he didnt.

"Great things in business are never done by one person; theyre done by a team of people." Steve Jobs Above quote by Steve Jobs is more than enough to prove that he always gave the credit for the whole team but not only to him. Asking for help:For the well-being of the whole company there can be occurred some occasions that need some help from an outside person or a party. Asking help is not a weakness. Help from an expertise or a stronger party can make many advantages for the company. But leaders without humility cannot do this because they need to show I am the guy but not the best for the company. As already mentioned, Steve Jobs didnt hesitate to ask help from the Microsoft when it was needed. Even though Microsoft is a competitor it was a good partner company number of years. Steve received help from the Microsoft carefully with taking a minimum risk. Taking responsibility:Level 5 leaders always ready to accept the responsibility for mistakes not only done by him but also the others. Then he is ready to take actions to resolve the problem behalf of the whole company. In year 1996, Steve Jobs was back to the Apple after he was fired from the company. At that time Apple was on the verge of bankruptcy due to number of new product failures and untrustworthy CEOs. Even in that situation Steve accepted the responsibility for the mistakes which were made by the company and took the immediate action to overcome the failure and gave new hopes to the managers and business partners of the company. Finding the right people:Most of times Steve Jobs was good in recruiting right people. Steve selected the worlds most creative designers to design the Apples remarkable devices. Not only the designers but also Apple possess an engineering team which is included the worlds most talented engineers. When he started the company call PIXAR which was an animation studio, Jobs was able to select the most creative graphic and animation designers who were able to release 13 feature films with 210 awards won and 211 awards nominated. Jobs strongly believed human resource is the most valuable assets of his company and he considered each employee an individual contributor, but only some are key individual contributors. According to the Steve, he was wrong in selecting people at one occasion. It was John Sculley who was the president of PepsiCo who also became a director in

Apple after an invitation by Steve Jobs. At some points Steve had stated that Scully leaded the company in wrong way.

Developed discipline:Level 5 leaders are committed to their tasks. Regardless of tasks difficulty, they stick to that task until its completion. They dont change or stop due to the fear of failures. Apple is a company which introduced revolutionary products to the world. According to the Steve innovations should not be decided by the consumers. Innovators provide marvellous innovations and consumers accept them as a solution for their problems. So, there were no any market experiments to analyse the consumers opinions and just introduced the product because Steve knew that they are going to introduce a wonderful thing and consumers would love it. Leading with passion:Level 5 leaders are always passionate about what they do. Followers, who understand their leaders passion on work, start to love and believe in what the leader is doing. Steve Jobs was passionate on what he did. When we analyse his lifes history, it is obvious that his primary requirement was not money or popularity but making something wonderful. He had a passion on making something wonderful for the world. Given below are some awesome quotes by Steve Jobs that makes obvious his leadership with passion. Do you want to spend rest of your life selling sugared water or do you want the chance to change the world Steve Jobs when luring Pepsis John Scully to join Apple Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you havent found it yet, keep looking. Dont settle. Being the richest man in the cemetery doesnt matter to me going to bed at night saying weve done something wonderful thats what matters to me. We think the Mac will sell zillions, but we didnt build the Mac for anybody else. We built it for ourselves. Generally there is a sign that can be used to identify a great leader from good leaders. Good leaders are become popular and respected due to successful organizations which are led by them. But organizations which are led by great leaders become popular and respected due its leader.

Steve Jobs was the icon of the Apple Inc. When we heard Apple, it reminds no one but Steve Jobs. When Steve publicly announced that he resigned from the post of CEO of the Apple Inc. due to his critical health condition, Apples share value was fallen down in 5%. Even after his death Steve Jobs is an immortal role model among the people who loves wonderful innovations. When compare the leadership traits of Steve Jobs and the qualities of the concept of level 5 leader by Jim Collins, it is obvious to see similarities which can be used to emphasize Steve Jobs as a Great Leader. Steve Jobs leadership style (not to mention his genius in design) was a key ingredient in Apples success; had he used a different style, he might not have achieved the same spectacular results at Apple. These are the qualities which can be seen mostly in Steve Jobs. They are; Clear vision-Clear way that the company should be and he had the ability to inspire the people not only having the clear vision; he had the ability to attract the subordinates to that vision. He gained the trust from the employees not because he was the founder of Apple Company, but he showed the competence in many areas such as product design and marketing. Steve jobs' leadership style has shown different approaches in different circumstances but the most important thing is the ability to integrate the supportive parties into the vision of the team as Mr Jobs has done. Most of Apple's success during the last decade was achieved under the leadership of Steve Jobs. All the released quality products have been entered to the market, were approved by closely watchful eyes of Steve jobs.

Steve jobs secretly leaked the company information to the public with the purpose of drawing the attention from the public. The below qualities can be matched with Steve Jobs which are related to level 4 & level 5 characteristics of leadership. Perception-The company image was more closely tied with him. Ego-Full and life time dedication and commitment to the firm's success. Failure-he was honest and open person expressed what he has learnt from the failure.
8

Success-Jobs only sparsely appeared during conference calls those days and has associates represented the company at some product launches. Managerial approach-He was the ultimate micromanager who had the veto power from everything from product launching to daily press release.

Note: - All above qualities of a great leader are mentioned clearly and more completely in the Buddhism. By the way Steve Jobs is a Zen Buddhist.

Question 2:
Online leadership is the way to lead people who are physically separated from leaders and with whom leaders interactions are basically reduced to written digital communication. Online leaders may face challenges, the greatest of which appears to be developing and maintaining trust. Identification based trust, for instance is particularly difficult to achieve when there is a lack of intimacy and face-to-face interaction (Rao,2008). And online negotiations have also been found to be hindered because parties express lower levels of trust (Rao,2008). Also online leadership is also fail when leaders are not comfortable with written communication. Sometimes online leaderships can be failed because nonverbal component (a smile and comforting gestures) which soften the harsh words in face to face communication, doesnt exist with online interaction. But online leadership is an essential as discussing in followings. The reality is in todays managers and their employees are increasingly being linked by networks rather than geographical proximity. Obvious examples include managers who regularly use e-mail to communicate with their staff, managers overseeing virtual projects for teams, and managers whose telecommuting employees are linked to the office by a computer and modem. The online leadership is emerging because in modern world a business or an organization is not limited to one branch or to a one country. One organization is expanded all over the world with number of branches, number of employees in various cultures with different concepts. These organizations can be identified as multinational companies, virtual teams, internet companies etc. In order to achieve mother organizations goals there must be an effective leadership and online leadership is the best way to do that. Leadership in multinational companies is one example for the need of online leadership. Multinational company is a corporation that is registered in more than in one country or that has operations in more than one country. It is a large corporation which both produces and sells goods or services in various countries. Being a multinational company it is hard to manage its operations in order to follow a same direction in achieving organizational goals. As an example here going to describe the online leadership of Uniliver which is one of first multinational companies and operated in over 100 countries. Uniliver is a dual-listed company consisting of Unilever N.V., based in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and Unilever PLC, based in London, United Kingdom. Both companies have the same directors and they operate as a single business. Being a dual-listed company which is in Netherland and United Kingdom it is essential to have a strong leadership method because both of them need to operate as a single business. It is becoming difficult because these companies are located in two different countries so they are physically separated. So there must be a method to lead these companies and subsidiaries which are in over 100 countries by the Chief Executive Paul Polman. It means Uniliver chief executive must lead Uniliver via the Unilever Leadership Executives who are in different countries. So to
10

practice this distance leadership Uniliver essentially needs online leadership which includes emails, video conferencing etc. Another example from Uniliver to prove the need of online leadership is Mr. Alan Jope who is the president of Russia, Africa and Middle East. To lead the employees in these three different regions Mr.Alan Jope cannot use verbal situation because he cannot appear in these three countries physically. So he must use online leadership which means lead the organization in these three regions in digital communication. Today, globalization and the spread of advanced information and communication technologies have encouraged a transition to distributed, virtual work practices. Virtual teams which are running on advanced information and communication technologies are groups of geographically, organizationally and/or time dispersed workers brought together by information and telecommunication technologies to accomplish one or more organizational tasks (Powell et al, 2004). This virtual teams faces to the problem which is how to manage them virtually. Virtual teams can be isolating because team members can feel that the leaders are absent. So not feel that absence leaders need regular contacts with virtual team members. To do that online leadership is need because those regular meetings can be done by video conferencing, Social media or Skype without face to face communication. Because face to face communication requires a large cost and these virtual teams are expecting cutting costs. These virtual teams members are represent different cultures and their attitudes can be vary. But to achieve same goals these team members must have same working attitudes. To lead this different cultural team members, online leadership is a best way because all the members can lead by the one leader and his followers will work with same attitudes. Also to create a team bonding online leadership is a good way because to achieve particular goal leaders can organize virtual meetings and virtual reward ceremony etc. Virtual teams can faces to poor leadership which can result in the failure of any team. Messages must be sent across accurately and clearly. Inability to effectively communicate to members of the team can all greatly affect a project. So to remove that poor leadership online leadership is a best way because it can creates a good communication among team members. In these contemporary world owners of the organization, CEOs are not physically in the organization. Because in many times they have to travel for business purposes. In this situation online leadership is needed to lead the organization. According to these facts it is emphasizing need of online leadership for a contemporary world.

Question 3:
In now a days, organizations are in fast moving and complex global environment. Thus, organizations should have ability to innovate and deploy faster and more profitability than competitors for growth and success achievement. For that organizations need good innovative leaders. Innovative leaders are the individuals who lead a new product or service through ideation, design, development, market launch and implementation. These innovation leaders will be the catalyst for change by bringing diverse parts of the organization together to launch new products and services. The best innovation leaders known how to work with the cross functional teams to allow the process to happen as broadly as possible, pulling ideas from outside and creating a safe environment to make mistakes and have crazy ideas. Normally organizations require leaders to drive and control changes in structure, culture, and process in order to transform them into creative, effective, and productive organizations. Organizational leaders usually decide what happens in the organization and give the direction, vision that brings success. Organizations cannot usually reach their goals without effective leadership, many are lacking the kind of leadership that encourages creativity and produces success. Leadership is the fundamental and foundational competitive advantage for success because without the right creative and effective leadership in organizations, the strategy, technology, and innovations will not help it succeed. Innovations are the primary sources of competitive advantage. Therefore, for the innovation process to begin in any organization, that organization must first put the right leaders and leadership structure in place. The leaders must themselves be interested in innovation. The top leaders in the organization usually have the power and authority to develop strategies that lead to innovation. There are few types of leadership that encourages innovation. Successful organizations have discovered that shared and collaborative leadership, rather than heroic and authoritarian management. Organizations that operate from the authoritarian, hierarchical, command and control model, where the top leaders control the work, information, decisions, and allocation of resources, produce employees that are less empowered, less creative, and less productive. In heroic approach to leadership, it involves many individuals with various tools and skills who together transform the organization. Contemporary leaders know that no individual has all the ideas, the skills, and time to carry out the complex tasks of contemporary leadership. They know that organizations will not survive if their leadership is limited to the top leaders because leadership opportunities exist at every level of the organization. Therefore, for an organization to become innovative and successful, it must benefit from the creativity of all its members.
12

Leaders can successfully encourage organizational creativity and innovation by designing the organization to create an environment that is conductive for innovations. Leaders can do this by building friendly and inclusive working conditions for the members of the organization. When the social structure of the organization helps workers feel secure and accepted, it brings out their creativity and innovation moreover organizational leaders must respect, value, and the richness of ideas, backgrounds, and perspectives of every employee and allow them to use their unique personal assets and experiences to work for the organization. Moreover, the top leadership of the organization must value creativity themselves and be enthusiastic about encouraging new developments. This provides the needed challenge and opportunities for people in the organization to be creative. The vision and strategic goals of leadership determine if the organization actively supports creativity. Hence, an exciting vision helps produce a work environment where everyone can participate fully and achieve professional and personal growth in the job of a common vision. Here the leader motivates the rest of the people in the organization to bring out their innovations through creating a shared vision of the organization. The leader inspires others with a purpose and a greater sense of mission. This type of work environment is conducive to innovation, while this kind of leadership causes changes in followers that eventually converts them into effective and creative leaders. Furthermore, leaders can be more effective in encouraging creativity by stopping treating the people in the organization as machines, but rather as living beings who work in organizations that are living systems. It helps leaders to create organizations filled with followers who are capable of adapting, alert to changes in their environment, and able to innovate purposefully. Organizations must invest in their leaders to ensure they develop their own innovative thinking capabilities and have the capability to develop their employees and teams innovative-thinking skills. Organizations also need to design their culture and organizational practices to make innovation possible. As well, organizations require a well-developed, organization-wide innovation plan to ensure a focused approach to organizational innovation. An organization-wide innovation plan enables local teams to focus their innovative thinking activities and align their innovations with the organizations overall requirements for innovation. When innovation occurs in organizations, it becomes embedded and an invisible competitive advantage, consistently creating new value for the organization. It is reflected in how individuals and teams think innovatively as they redefine complex issues, generate new ideas, discover solutions, and reduce risks. The end result will be that organizations will close their innovation gaps, become able to

13

achieve sustainable customer value and employee engagement, and remain life into the future of the organization. Organizational leadership is the most important aspect of the organizational creativity and innovation dynamics. No organization can transform or renew itself unless the leaders put the process in motion and sustain it. Therefore, organizations need creative leaders to manage the innovation process. Hence, the creativity of an organization depends on how the leader designs the organization and creates the environment that allows creativity to develop. It can also depend on how they encourage and manage diversity in the organization. Finally, it depends on how the leader inspires everyone to bring out his or her best creative self and use that to help lead and transform the organization. Therefore the role of a leader in bringing up innovations for the achievement of organizational goals is becoming more significant for an organization.

3. Conclusion
As a conclusion according to the concept of level 5 leadership or Good to Great by Jim Collins, humbleness is the most obvious quality of a great leader. Humbleness keeps a leader beyond the stage where a good leader possesses. Corresponding to the records by associated people, the way lived; Steve Jobs is introduced as a Great leader by many managerial expertise and scholars in the world. With the great leadership of Steve Jobs Apple Inc. has been turned out to be a one of most successful company in the business world. The leadership qualities of Steve Jobs can be referred as a role model for anyone who wishes to build his or her career from a good leader to be a great leader. Though there are some issues in online leadership because of lack of verbal communication and lack of trust, online leadership is need for contemporary world because in todays managers and their employees are increasingly being linked by networks rather than geographical proximity. The online leadership is emerging because in modern world a business or an organization is not limited to one branch or to a one country. One organization is expanded all over the world with number of branches, number of employees in various cultures with different concepts. Business world is becoming more and more competitive with the globalization and many other factors. Thus, if organizations are not faced to that competitive environment in a competitive way, such organizations will be failed within the market or business world. Therefore, the best way to face such kind of huge competition is doing the innovations which most compatible with the competition. And also, Doing Innovation has become as a new concept to achieve organizational goals in current business world. Therefore, traditional leadership role has become much broad and complex by combining with the innovation leadership role.
