Motivation in layman terms can be anything,,it is a process of stimulating people to achieve their goals or to influence others to do your will with a possibility of reward.. is one of the oldest methods of motivation...in this theory the carrot symboli"es the reward for doing a work and the stick for if not.. Picturi"e a horse .. A carrot is tied in front of it to make it move while if it doesnt move the stick comes into play..it is just simple as that.. !n this theory the organi"ation thinks that he or she working under it i just for money and they also reali"e that if they dont do their work properly then the stick comes into play,,

$o he or she when does their job effectively will be rewarded with incentives,promotion etc when he or she does not do their job they will be demoted,transferred or fired ,,

%e was a professor in mit ,,us in &'() ..he believed that motivating people employs certain assumptions about human nature.. theory * !n this theory it is assumed that the employees are inherently la"y and they dislike work..he tries to avoid responsibility and has no ambition in life..but just wants job security..+++ herefore they should be controlled directed or sometimes punished to acheive organi"ational goals,,thoery * beleives that everything must end in blaming someone his type of theory is static and rigid..and leads to authoritative management,, heory y
In this theory, management assumes employees may be ambitious and self-motivated and exercise self-control. It is believed that employees enjoy their mental and physical wor duties. According to them wor is as natural as play. !hey possess the ability for creative problem solving, It is a positive method of motivation ,,,threat of punishment and external control may not be re"uired,, If the employee is satisfied then we can assume that the organi#ational goals will be satisfied....
