Climate Change Final Essay
What if all climate change crisis and fear is nothing more than a political manoeuvre to control people and maintain order in the transition of millennium? As we know, is a social crisis, the transition from millennium to millennium is always chaotic and takes about 100 years to adapt to the new ways. We currently see many phenomena in the news and we start to panic and act irrational, we look for guidance to what to do and how to do things. Many sociologists and anthropologists say this, because what they study is people and reactions according to the time period. But now the scientic side, James Lovelock and his theory of Gaia, a huge organism, self-regulating and controlling everything that happens. He rst said we were a plague, an infection for the planet. That personally made me think and start considering it possible. Earth releases energy, has organs and depends on the sun, so as anything living as we know it. It frightened me to believe that I am an infection and that I am nothing more than a virus. It also made me think I was in a fantasy story or a very odd sci- movie, those many people often watch because there is nothing more to watch at that time on television, that made you feel offended, then it makes you do an introspection of what are you doing and at the end you denitely agree and start spreading the word about it. Now is it a fully man-made problem or is the Sun provoking it too? Not saying that is something spontaneous, but is it coincidence that it is happening right now and it is a natural process, that only mankind has accelerated? Now a days and in the last couple of years, Gaia or planet Earth, has started a counter attack to us, by trying to regulate atmosphere and trying to regulate the biosphere in general aspects. It is reacting like a living organism ghting back to an infection. First comes the fever (global heat increasing), then comes the shakes and expelling the infection (Earthquakes, tsunamis, typhoons, tornados, huracanes) to kill the infection and clean it self.

In the last years the global temperature has increased, the stations of the years are lasting less and becoming two, winter and summer. And this means that the conveyor belt is slowing down, the hot water is staying in the top and colder water is not owing as it should, Europe is becoming more extreme and so America. But why is it that the United States, the world strongest and wisest is constantly hit by tornados? Tornadoes formed in the center of the US are generally formed by moisture coming from the Gulf of Mexico (which is increasing due to the warmer weather ), the cold air from the mountains and the north and the hotdry air coming from the deserts. Also the cities are emitting more hot air with all the people living inside, plus the construction and the low albedo which makes the cities warmer. Also, the moisture in the air is not very common in fall/winter season, yet there was enough that caused the tornados in the US. What is a typhoon you might ask? Well a typhoon is a mature cyclone that develops in the western part of the North Pacic Ocean between 180E and 100 E. A tropical cyclone is a rapidly-rotating storm system characterised by a low pressure center, strong winds, and a spiral arrangement of thunderstorms that produce heavy rain. Tropical cyclones typically form over large bodies of relatively warm water. They derive their energy from the evaporation of water from the ocean surface, which ultimately re-condenses into clouds and rain when moist air rises and cools to saturation. So what can we say about this? Is the increasing temperature of the earth, the less activity of the conveyor belt represents higher concentration of warm water in the surface and that turns to be a critical factor that makes the typhoons stronger and the increasing amount of water vapor in the atmosphere is also a dangerous factor that leads to the most dramatic and violent typhoon ever registered in world history, a couple weeks ago this super typhoon as the media classied hit the Philippines. This typhoon just proves too that in other parts of the world are having drastic climate and more violent natural phenomena. A tornado is a violently rotating column of air that is in contact with both the surface of the earth and the cumulonimbus cloud or in rare cases the base of a cumulus cloud. They are often referred to as twisters or cyclones, although the word cyclone is used in meteorology, in a wider sense, to name any closed low pressure circulation. Tornadoes come in many shapes and sizes, but they are C.C. Essay, Page 3 !

typically in the form of a visible condensation funnel, whose narrow end touches the earth and is often encircled by a cloud of debris and dust. But what does a super typhoon and a series of tornados in US proves that the Earth is ghting back? Well, it is pretty simple. Global temperature is increasing, the conveyor belt is slowing down and colder air comes from the poles and mixes with the hot air in most of the US, creates constant and stronger tornadoes that are striking in more populated cities because the higher concentration of hot air in them and the cold air coming from the north pole are making them more frequent and be stronger. Examples of tornadoes that recently had happened were in Illinois and Oklahoma, which had been classied as the harder natural attack to the US. The tornadoes happening in the US are constantly increasing and they are turning more violently, and the super typhoon is just the beginning, they forecast stronger ones in the incoming times. The earth is getting warmer and the renewable energy systems we have are merely doing their job. Many scientist are turning into Nuclear energy because it is cleaner and can be recycled many times, and the amount of wastes are minimal. Could we prevent it? As Lovelock said in his the book The vanishing face of Gaia, actually there is no point of return to all the damage that we have done, we only have the opportunity to try to restore the balance and to stop doing the mistakes of our past. We should start looking for more solutions and to make them happen the ones that have been proposed right now. We should start to look towards the nuclear energy which turns into cleaner energy and stop leaving residues that poison our one home, the planet Earth. The earth is ghting back, it is striking harder against the infection, the humans, which is leading to a population reduction and restoring the natural balance and carrying capacity. What could we do? We could start taking action, no more ideas and proposals, start changing our habits, try to think differently, not following the common stereotypes set by people that are trying to minimise the problem. But also, not fall into crisis and start acting irrational, always doing what is right. Media wants us to start panicking, because that way they have control and sales. We must start thinking that we have cause enough problems, and now we have to solve it, one way or the other.

What could we do at home to start the change in ourselves? Simple steps that have been said for more than 10 years. Changing light bulbs, saving water, use less the car, use a hybrid car, etc. Who could help in cases of emergency? The government should have a program or fund in case of need. Most of the time, the fund is not enough for all the people in need, but it should rise. Also people should have insurance and stay alert. Whos fault is it, government or society? Well, the fault is shared, part the government and part the society. Government should start putting people health and care rst, then climate change impact they are having and then everything else. Also should start taking fees for contamination of soil, air and water and penalisation in the inept separation of the residues. Also they must look for some permanent program or campaign in which they collect the reusable residue, and not like the ephemeral that had been done. And society must start changing their habits and take part in the action of changing for the better, not for the worst case scenario. They should care for the world health, not being selsh and believe that if somebody does it, why they shouldnt. Young people, because we are the ones living the transition, we should take it more seriously.
