K+12 FORUM To supplement the personal and career development of the Bicol University College of Science professors, the Department of Biology of Bicol University College of Science sponsored a free forum on K+12 Curriculum: Implications, Imperatives and Opportunities to College Educators. This first K+12 forum sought to provide supplementary information to tertiary level educators via lecture sessions, information dissemination with expert speaker and an open forum to allow them to interact with others in the field and establish their own support network. The featured speaker was Ms. Corazon Fatima A. Silerio, Education Program Supervisor, National Education Academy Program (NEAP) -Bicol , who discussed FAQs about K+12 and its implications to tertiary education. Department of Biology Chair, Dr. Lillibeth Ase Cajuday gave the opening remarks. According to her, teachers should be able to facilitate learning (among) diverse types of learners in diverse types of learning environments, using a wide range of teaching knowledge and skills. Hopefully, the teaching profession can then keep pace with the demands of global competitiveness. Silerio says, So we have to work with them. We have to continue to train and retrain them to be able to do K to 12 well. The seminar was held last July 25, 2012 at the Bicol University College of Science and was attended by over 40 participants. The forum was facilitated by Prof. Ms. Daile Meek Salvador of the Biology Department and the Symbiosis. Each participant was given free snacks, seminar materials and certificates of attendance and participation.
