Date: November.28th, 2013 Attention: Chief and Council RE: Call for Submissions; Family Violence Prevention The Southern Chiefs Organization (SCO) would like to formally announce a new initiative supported by the Family Violence Prevention and Resource Program (FVPR) and funded by the Status of Women Canada. The recent development of a new initiative under a Pilot Project framework has been titled Stop Family Violence. SCOs Executive Committee approved the initiative at their meeting on November.26th, 2013 and is now in effect as of November.28th, 2013 and scheduled to run until February.28th, 2014. The Pilot Project stemmed from collaborative planning with the FVPR Coordinator and the Interim Administrator in alignment with the current agreement, funded by the Status of Women Canada. After much deliberation and thorough discussion we identified a gap that left many of the Southern First Nations receiving no directive approach of family violence preventative work from the SCO. As outlined in the agreement, only 8 Southern First Nations were identified as they have a close proximity to Winnipeg. While discussing the importance of shared work throughout all Southern First Nations, we then designed a new approach that requires limited funding, more resources and community engagement to construct an achievable deliverable that has accessibility to all 33 Southern First Nations. This Pilot Project will not only inform the youth of reduction strategies but also generate positive outcomes reaching out more beyond than what was originally stated. The Pilot Project will also involve young men and assist in developing a network of balance and change for our future generation. We are requesting for your support to help assist and carry out the spirit and intent to raise awareness, promote healthy relationships and encourage our youth to share their natural gifts and skills through use of creative forms including but not limited to songs, videos, essays, etc. We have more information available on our website and Facebook with files that can be downloaded and shared. Our goals are that there will be helpers in the community willing and available to assist with the implementation of raising awareness and supports for our youth, please share with your contacts. If you require more information about the pilot project, please do not hesitate to call me at our sub-office, (204)-946-1869 ext 107. Respectfully, Nikketa Campbell, Family Violence Prevention & Resource Coordinator Southern Chiefs Organization
